Obituary: Dr. Phillip B. Smith passed away on 23, 2015 at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean B. Smith; daughters Alexis McIntyre (Dan) and Jacquelin Kimer (Ted); and five grandsons, Phillip McIntyre, Corey Kimer, Cavan McIntyre, Max Kimer, and Matthew McIntyre. Dr. Smith is also survived by his sister-in-law, Janice B. Ludwig and nephews Jeffery Ludwig and Douglas Ludwig and his niece Toni S. Wade (Doug) and his nephews wife Melba Smith. Dr. Smith was born in Greensburg, PA on 11, 1926. He was the son of Percy Brown Smith and Mary Bissell Smith. He served in the Air Corps during World War II. He attended Palmer Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa where he was class President and graduated in 1955. He was a Mason of Iowa and celebrated his 50th year in 2009. Dr. & Mrs. Smith have been long time residents of Naples having moved here in 1955. It was at that time that Dr. Smith opened his practice on the famous 3rd Street South and became the towns first Chiropractor. In addition to attending to the locals he had some unusual and notable patients. Jack Paar from the Tonight Show sought his treatment in the early years and Dr. Smith was praised on national television for the results. He also adjusted the shoulder of a chimpanzee.the dear pet of a local meter maid. His compassion had no bounds! Dr. Smith was an active Member of Trinity by the Cove Episcopal Church, First Charter Member of Royal Poinciana Country Club ( 1, 1968), a Member of the Florida Chiropractic Association, a Paul Harris Fellow, and was awarded the Four Way Test Award in 2001 in the Rotary Club of Naples. He also loved volunteering for Grapes for Apes and ringing the bell at Christmas time for The Salvation Army. Dr. Smith was a people-person with a dry sense of humor and he enjoyed playing practical jokes. He enjoyed entertaining in his home with his wife Jean the old fashioned way with mailed RSVP invitations, gourmet home-cooked meals, dancing and singing by the piano. He was an avid sportsman. In his free time he enjoyed hunting and fishing, golfing, playing cards and spending time with his five grandsons. He loved his profession and practiced until his 80th birthday when he was presented the Key to the City of Naples. He was loved by all who knew him. On mornings after Trinitys early service he could be found at The Cove Inn Coffee Shop with friends and family.
