Obituary: James A. Slaybaugh, 72, of Bradenton, passed away Sept. 1, 2016. He was the beloved husband and soul mate, of 17 years to Carol Slaybaugh. Born Nov. 17, 1943, in Toledo, OH, he was the son of the late Herbert and Irene Slaybaugh. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Jamie Lynn Slaybaugh. Mr. Slaybaugh was a proud United States Army, Vietnam War, veteran. He was a retired millwright in the construction industry, retiring in 1998, and moved to the Bradenton area, in 1999. In addition to his wife, survivors also include his sister, Diann Lynn (John) Weber; granddaughters, Milena and Jalynn Slaybaugh; step-sons, Brian Kovach and Jeff (Julie) Kovach; nephews, Eric (Christine) A. Weber and John A. (Lisa) Weber; great-nephews, John L. and Raymond Weber; great-nieces, Allison and Sarah Weber; step-granddaughters, Kaitlynn and Rachel Kovach; step-great-granddaughter, Amelia. Obituary: Helen Coulthard (Ferguson) Slaybaugh, 69, died peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones in Venice, Florida on 14, 2012. Helen was born in Maryport, England on 7, 1942 to Tom and Elsie Ferguson of Camp Road, Maryport. She was the sister of Robert and Tom Ferguson. Helen Ferguson is a graduate of Cockermouth Grammar School, Cockermouth, England and a two year specialized course at Gregg Secretarial School of Carlisle, England. With adventurous spirit, she left England for the United States at the age of eighteen to live and work in Washington, D.C. It was there that Helen met and married George Slaybaugh. Helen and George have two children, Paul and Julie. Paul married Rebecca Vint of Milford, Indiana and they now live in Cromwell, Indiana. Julie married Paul Hodgson of Dearham, Maryport, England and they now live in Venice, Florida with their four children, Olivia 13, Brooklyn 11, Owen 7 and Eva 2. seventeen years in the Washington, D.C. area working as a private secretary, Helen and her family moved back to Maryport, England in order to be closer to Helens father, Tom Ferguson. Re-establishing herself in Maryport, she started a ceramic business and soon opened the beloved Georgian Gift Shop on Crosby Street. Helen and her family worked together selling everything from bath soaps, silk and dried flowers, lamps, gift cards and a large selection of Christmas ornaments. The Georgian Shop also manufactured a wide selection of ceramic products. Helen became well known for her illuminated Christmas trees, many of which still shine in Maryports windows. the death of her father, Tom Ferguson, Helen and her husband George moved to Venice, Florida where they have since resided. Helen worked in retail sales, where her industrious nature earned her the title of Ladies Wear Clothing Manager in a local department store. She retired two years ago to begin the fulltime role of dedicated grandmother to her four grandchildren. Helen Ferguson Slaybaugh was diagnosed in mid- 2011 with an inoperable brain tumor. She endured her illness with great courage and bravery, retaining her sense of humor, quick wit and positive attitude to the end. Helens kind and gentle soul will be missed by all who knew her. Her life will be a constant inspiration for those she has left behind. Helen Ferguson Slaybaugh is survived by her husband, George Slaybaugh, son, Paul Slaybaugh, daughter, Julie Hodgson and four grandchildren, Olivia Hodgson, Brooklyn Hodgson, Owen Hodgson and Eva Hodgson. A memorial service will be held at Farley in Venice on , 21, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. with refreshments to follow.
