Obituary: George Edward Siladie, 87, passed away peacefully in St. Petersburg on 8, 2017. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Betty and is survived by his sister Jennie Clements (Ohio) and brother-in-law Bert Verwey (Canada). He was a dedicated father to two sons; Michael Siladie (Jeanette) and Mark Siladie (Carole) and daughter, Deborah Siladie. He loved his beautiful five granddaughters Alyssa Siladie, Jenna Siladie, Renée Little, Rochelle Colburn (Casey), and Cristina Jablonskis (Ian), and enjoyed spending time with his great grandchildren Isaac, Cecily and Liam. He will be remembered for his talent of telling his great stories about life, which he especially loved to share with his many nieces and nephews. George was a supportive and helpful friend to his neighbors and extended family members. Born in Akron, Ohio, George served in the United States Marine Corp during WWII and graduated from Kent State University with a degree in Biology. He worked as an Insurance Sales Agent for Bankers Life & Casualty in Akron, Ohio. Using his undergraduate degree in Science, he was accepted at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. He continued working for Bankers Life and was promoted to upper Management. Shortly after moving with his family to St. Petersburg in 1972, he started Security Life & Casualty Insurance Agency. George loved his boats and deep-sea fishing. He earned his Coast Guard Captains license, which abled him to start his own private charter company Sea Lady Charters, Inc. He also designed and made custom line reels which he enjoyed making for his family and friends. He was a certified Ham Radio Operator and was the liaison for the Flying Start Program for the Albert Whitted Preservation Society in St. Petersburg. He was a long-time member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Akron, Ohio and Sarasota, Florida serving as an usher and enjoyed helping his son Michael lead the singing of Hymns on s. A gathering will be held from 10 AM until the time of service at 11 AM on , 21, 2017 at Palms-Robarts , 170 Honore Ave., Sarasota, FL 34232 with Interment to immediately follow. Obituary: 15, 1930- 15, 2014 Betty Joyce Siladie 84, passed away peacefully at her St. Pete home on 15th, 2014. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, George; brother, Bert Verwey of Ontario. She was a beautiful, nurturing and remarkable mother to two sons; Michael Siladie (Jeanette) and Mark Siladie (Carole) and daughter, Deborah Siladie. Betty was a kind and special grandmother to her five granddaughters; Alyssa Siladie, Jenna Siladie-Hagan (Shane), Renee Little, Rochelle Dudley, and Cristina Jablonskis (Ian), and a supportive and prayerful friend to her neighbors, co-workers and extended family members. Born in Windsor, Ontario, Betty was a Canadian citizen and attended nursing school in Detroit, Michigan where she earned her Degree and Diploma as a Registered Nurse. Her nursing career spanned for many years in several states, including Ohio, Louisiana and Florida and she worked as a charge nurse in various hospitals. she retired from nursing, she started her own business as an Antique dealer at the Historic Gas Plant Antique Arcade in St. Petersburg, Florida. She specialized in collecting fine crystal, glass, china, porcelain, and period vintage and antique furniture. She loved to attend antique auctions, estate sales and had booths at many antique shows . Having lived in the New Orleans metropolitan area for many years, Betty loved to cook and became quite the gourmet chef. She made and rolled her own pie dough, and everyone loved her cinnamon crumb topping on her deep-dish cherry and apple pie -- favorites she always made during the holidays. Betty and her husband George always opened their doors to visiting church members, friends, family and relatives and they rolled out the red carpet to all their guests. When company came to visit, there was always something delicious cooking on the stove or baking in the oven. She was an immaculate homemaker and took pride in her fine taste for decorating and displaying her latest collection of "treasures" she recently attained. Betty was also an avid reader and researched and studied everything she could about the items she purchased and sold, and was always looking for new recipes to cook. It was said that she was like a "walking encyclopedia" because of the vast wealth of information she knew and retained about so many subjects. Betty was born musically inclined and gifted. She was a classically trained pianist and loved to sing. She maintained her own piano studio in New Orleans and was an active member of the local Music Teachers Association for many years. Several of her students won awards at the local piano competitions and received Superior ratings at annual festivals. She sang and participated in the Master Chorale and Community Chorus in New Orleans and enjoyed attending choral concerts and performances of other professional choral groups. Betty was instrumental in establishing and organizing an elision between the Jefferson Parish public school system and the New Orleans Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, to provide opportunities for students to be bused to concert halls and attend special symphonic performances during the school day each year. She had the natural ability to be able to harmonize and sing the descant line to any melody she heard. Betty also loved attending the Opera and the Ballet and supported her daughter Deborah's musical education, concert and recital performances. At church and home, Betty loved to sing her favorite hymns, carols and melodies. She was a dedicated mother to her two sons Mark and Michael, and encouraged them to pursue and excel in their many interests, which included swimming, karate, basketball and football. Betty's amazing organizational skills and the love and support she had, insured all her children arrived on time with the proper attire and supplies for various lessons, games, tournaments and practice sessions. In addition, she made sure all her children received additional and supplemental tutoring in various academic subjects if needed. Betty was a successful tennis player and was a member of The Racquets Tennis Club, and enjoyed swimming and boating. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, taking care of her houseplants and visiting her friends and family. She was an active and longstanding member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Sarasota, Florida.
