Obituary: John Henry Seykora, age 82, of Jacksonville, FL, formerly of Owatonna, passed away Feb. 23, 2015 in Jacksonville. Friends may greet the family from 4-7:00 PM , 4, at the Brick-Meger (1603 Austin Rd, Owatonna) and one hour prior to the funeral mass at church. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM , 5, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, (810 S. Cedar Ave., Owatonna) with military honors provided by the Steele Unit. There will be a Knights of Columbus rosary on at 7:00PM, at the funeral home. John was born on 11, 1932 in Owatonna, to John G. and Elizabeth (Steinkemper) Seykora. He attended country school in district 57 in Somerset Township. He then entered into the Air Force, serving from 1952- 1956. During that time he met and married Eunice Brick in 1954 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna. his military service ended, John returned to Owatonna to pursue his love of farming on the family farm. He retired in 1993. His wife Eunice passed away in 1997. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. John enjoyed gardening, bird watching, playing cards and pickle ball, but most of all, spending time with his family. In retirement he met Betty Sweat and they were married in 1999. The Couple wintered in Florida for many years ultimately moving down there full time in 2011. John is survived by his wife Betty, children, Michael (Dorothy) Seykora, of Arlington, Texas, Tami Seykora of Owatonna; two grandchildren, USAF Captain Caitlin (Sean) Seykora and Craig Seykora; great grandson, Maverick; step-sons Michael (Cindy) Sweat, Greg Sweat, Joey Sweat: step-grandchildren Justin and Tanner Sweat. He was preceded in death by his first wife Eunice and his son Craig. John is also survived by siblings Marianne Warner, Donna Carlton, and Genevieve (Ron) Webster and preceded by siblings Richard, Robert, and Bernadine (Bunny) Butler. Memorials are preferred to Sacred Heart , and the Steele Food Shelf. |
