Obituary: SECKINGER, Allen Hughes 90, passed away quietly at his residence in Beach Park surrounded by family and friends as he went home to be with his Father and Lord Jesus Christ, on , Sept. 17, 2014. Allen Seckinger was born in a, GA and grew up in Plains, GA. His father was the Lutheran minister at St. Andrews Lutheran Church there. graduating from high school he attended the Citadel (class of 1949) in Charleston, SC and obtained a BS in civil engineering. He enlisted in the U.S Navy, serving our country during WWII and was stationed in Bahia, Brazil. He returned from the service to Charleston, planning to extend his education at Georgia Tech. Unfortunately due to residency requirements, he was denied admittance (only Georgia veterans on the GI Bill were being accepted at that time). He ultimately relented and was accepted at MIT where he received a masters in civil engineering. graduating from MIT, he was hired by Reynolds Smith & Hills in their Jacksonville office. He was to meet the love of his life, Shirley Lee Nelms and marry her there. He was transferred to Tampa by RS&H to open the Tampa office. Later, he was to partner with H. Joseph Diaz to form the engineering firm of Diaz, Seckinger & Associates (DSA). DSA grew to become one of the area's largest and most respected firms in the state. Mr. Seckinger has been a past president of Florida Engineering Society (FES) local and state. He was on the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying where he held numerous positions and was honored with a prestigious service award for his contributions to the structural community. He was a fellow of the American Society of Engineers, American Concrete Institute and a senior member of the National Society of Professional Engineers. Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Nelms Seckinger, to whom he was married 54 years. He is survived by his daughter, Melanie Seckinger Bach and her husband, Michael; his son, Edwin Allen Seckinger and his wife, Amy Seckinger; and his three grandchildren, Joshua Allen Seckinger, Austin Hutton Seckinger, and Ashlyn Lauren Seckinger. services will be held at 11am, , Sept. 24 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 501 South Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the School of Engineering - Civil and Environmental Department at USF for a scholarship to be set up in his name. The family invites you to attend a reception immediately following the service. |

Obituary: Herbert James Seckel was born on 3, 1928 in Akron, Ohio. He moved to Tallahassee, FL in 1948. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Tallahassee, FL. Herb served as Seaman Apprentice in the United States Navy. He retired after 27 years of employment from the city of Tallahassee. He is the son of Rollie Jay Seckel and Violet Victoria Smith. His wife was Grace McCoy (deceased). Herb had three sons; James Martin Seckel, David Thomas Seckel (both deceased), and leaving behind Jack Arthur Seckel wife Millie. Herb also leaves behind three grandchildren, Stephen Jackson Seckel (Saleah), Kaylin Elizabeth Seckel , and Jordyn Adia Seckel; one sister, Rita Seckel Hornberger (Richard); and a host of nieces and nephews.
