Obituary: Warren Calvin Schreiner, 10, 1921 ~ May 18, 2014 Point, Queens , New York and Clearwater, Florida Tau Beta Pi; The American Institute of Chemical Engineers; The American Institute of Chemists; The Engineering Foundation; First Lieutenant Army Air Corp in WWII - 73rd Bomber Wing Warren Schreiner, age 92, of Clearwater FL, died May 18, 2014 after a brief illness. He was born in 1921 in Point, Queens , New York in 1921 to the late Peter G. Schreiner and the late Christina (nee Christensen). He was predeceased by his three brothers (Peter, Jr., Walter, and Alan) and a twin sister who was stillborn. Warren graduated from the of the City of New York with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering in 1942. With World War II just beginning, Warren immediately upon graduation enlisted in the US Army Air Corp. (the forerunner of the US Air Force). Basic training, he was assigned to the 73rd Bomber Wing as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was stationed on the South Pacific Island of Saipan. He was a flight engineer on the B-29 Superfortress named "Pride of the Yankees." He and his crew flew 37 missions over Japan. the war ended in 1945, he married his sweetheart Florence (nee Anwander) in of that year. He also became employed by M.W. Kellogg Co. of NYC that same year, the same engineering firm he would retire from 40 years later. Warren and Florence made their first home in Franklin Square, Long Island, NY. Warren obtained a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering in 1949, the same year his first child, Douglas, was born. In 1952, he became a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and was named a Fellow of that organization in 1974. In 1955, he and Florence became parents for the second time when their daughter, Leslie Dale, was born. Warren became a member of the Engineering Foundation Board, eventually serving as Chairmen of the Board. He was elected a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemists in 1969. Warren and Florence would move several times as his company moved. First, they moved to East Norwich, Long Island. Then they moved to Mendham, NJ and then to Houston, TX. retired to Clearwater, FL in 1986. In 1976, Warren was certified by the State of Texas to practice as a Professional Engineer. Over his long carrier, he was awarded 12 patents by the US Patent Office. Warren is survived by: his wife Florence; his son Douglas who, with his wife JoAnne, lives in NJ; his daughter Leslie Dale Reeves who, with her husband Robert, lives in TX; 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Warren is to be buried at Florida's National in Bushnell. Obituary: Florence Schreiner, age 89, of Clearwater, FL, died 12, 2014 just 25 days after her husband of 68 years, Warren Schreiner, had passed away. Florence was born in Point, Queens , NY in 1925 to the late Max Anwander and the late Bertha Anwander (nee Ernst). She was predeceased by her husband and her sister Dorothy Hendrichs. She graduated from Flushing High in 1943. In 1944, she became engaged to Warren, who, at the time, was a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Air Corp. Warren was assigned to the 500th Bombardment Group 73rd Wing as a flight engineer on the B-29 Superfortress the Pride of the Yankees. WWII ended, Florence and Warren were married at First Reformed Church of Point. In of 1949, Florence gave birth to her first child, Douglas. In of 1955, she gave birth to a daughter, Leslie Dale. Florence and Warren established their first home in Franklin Square, Long Island, NY. She and Warren would move several times: East Norwich, Long Island; Mendham, NJ; Houston, TX; and finally to Clearwater, FL where she and Warren resided for the last 28 years. Florence is survived by her two children: Douglas who, with his wife JoAnne, lives in NJ; his daughter Leslie Dale Reeves who, with her husband Robert, lives in TX; 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Florence is to be buried at Florida's National in Bushnell next to her husband. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Humane Society, Florences favorite charity. |
