Obituary: Ralph L. Schannen Ralph L. Schannen, 92, formerly of Fort Wayne, died Thurs., Jan. 21, 2016, in Ft. Myers, Fla. A viewing, with services following, will be held at 1 p.m. at Harvey-Engelhardt Services, 1600 Colonial Blvd., in Ft. Myers. A memorial service will be held at a later time at Faith United Church of Christ, 10707 Coldwater Rd. in Fort Wayne. His ashes will be buried in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne, in a plot beside two still-born infants born in the 1950s. Schannen was the fourth of five children to Henry and Muriel (Bieber) Schannen in rural Allen Oct. 11, 1923. He married his Loving wife (of 69 years) Helen nee Allen, on Oct. 3, 1946, at St. Johns United Church of Christ in Ft. Wayne. He is also survived by a son, Michael (wife Kathleen) and a grandson, Curt (wife Ashley) Schannen, and three grandsons, Kayden, Cameron and Cole, all of New Palestine, IN. As well, by Curts mother, Deborah Schannen of New Palestine. His sister-in-law, Bea Schannen, survives in Fort Wayne. A large number of nieces and nephews also survive their Uncle. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Gordon, and two sisters, Edna King and Esther Timma. graduation from Salem High School, where he excelled on the baseball team, Schannen enlisted in, and was honorably discharged from, the Army Air Force near the end of World War II. He graduated from International Business in Ft. Wayne and then was employed as an accountant by North America Van Lines. His tenure with the moving company took him to Cleveland where he became a staunch, life-long Cleveland Indians fan. He told stories more recently about seeing Satchel Paige pitch his first game in the major leagues. earning his certification as a CPA, he joined the public accounting firm of Dettmer-Lipp & Co., before forming a partnership with Larry Rignanese, Chet Horn and John Harris. Mr. Schannen (and his wife) were particularly pleased that they were able to be of service to The Ft. Wayne Childrens Hospital during his lengthy career in that city. That firm later merged with George S. Olive & Co., and Ralph eventually became the managing partner of the Fort Wayne office. Since his retirement in 1988, the Olive Co. has been merged into the national accounting firm of BKD, LLP, of Springfield, Mo. retiring, Ralph and Helen moved to the Ft. Myers, FL area and lived there until 2013 when they moved to Indianapolis to be near their son and his family. Ralph will be remembered by those close to him as a man who was always guided by his sense of fairness and respect for all others, and unwavering faith. |

Obituary: Anthony Charles Schanel, 3, 1975 - 29, 2015..... Tony was infamous for his perfectly timed one-liners, being a MacGyver, a master chef, and a fisherman. Fishing and the love of the water ran deep within his veins... It all started when his father Brian Schanel and his mother Myra Schanel took him and his two siblings, Ashley Stewart and William “Bill” Schanel to their Grandpa George’s dock and taught them how to fish. Of course this was only accomplished by Brian and Myra buying the kids cheese and cracker snack packs at the local bait shop. The Schanel’s loved spending quality time together at the beach. It’s been said that as a child, Tony (aka Tony bologna cheese and macaroni), would collect dead crabs instead of shells during their family beach walks. Working with his family at Sanford Scale, as a third generation scale man, he traveled extensively with them, leaving an impact on all of those who met him. His dad always said “Tony you are Sanford Scale”. If you walk around Sanford and mention Tony’s name, there would be very few people that wouldn’t be able to share a story whether it be a funny or one where Tony was there to help them out. That was the type of man that Tony was.... He’d give you the shirt off his back and his last dollar and never ask for anything in return, but if you knew him well you’d know that you’d never live it down either. Tony married his best friend and high school sweetheart Kristy on 18, 1998, with whom had their two kids Jacob (15) and Taylor (12). He taught them the essentials in life being fishing, how to select the proper power tools, the power of sarcasm, and most importantly, giving his family nothing less than his unconditional love and attention. He took great pride in his family including the four legged members. He took fashion cues from no one- even though his wife has excellent fashion sense. He could always be found in his white crocs, Costa’s, scruffy t-shirts and tatty shorts. If you were lucky enough to see him dressed up, you knew that it was only because his wife threatened him with bodily harm. Tony had a heart the size of Sanford and had the unique gift of making people laugh and will be missed but forever loved. Services will be held , 7th, 10am at Central Baptist Church, 3101 W.
