Obituary: Joseph John Savino 95, Passed away on 3, 2016 at Tampa General Hospital He was born in Brooklyn, NY on 26, 1921 and moved to Tampa in 1975 He is survived by: Robert G. Savino – Son, Los Lunas, NM, Joseph J. Savino Jr. – Son, Pittsburg, PA. Mark A. Savino – Son, Tampa, FL Joseph Savino is the son of Italian immigrants Gregorio Savino (1884-1968) and Angelina Pasciolla Savino (1891-1923). Sadly his mother passed away at 32 years of age. He and his siblings (Mary, Lillian, Rita, Willie and Catherine) all now deceased were raised by family members. He joined the Marines in 1942 and defended his country during World War II in Guadalcanal, part of the Solomon Islands. During his enlistment he met his future wife, Gloria Donza at a party in his honor. Coincidentally he met Gloria a few years earlier when his oldest sister Mary married Glorias Uncle Tony. This time little Gloria was all grown up and they began dating and eventually married in , 1945. Joe was a skilled carpenter and opened his own business making custom cabinets and they began raising a family. He was a devoted husband and father who used his skill as a carpenter to help his children when they eventually bought homes. He joined the International Longshoremans Union (ILU) in the 1960s and remained in the union until he retired in 1977. His hobby was his work and he continued to actively work in Tampa well into his 80s. He is well loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed. |
