Obituary: Sakellaris, Leonidas H. “Leo”, 86, died peacefully at his home in Tampa on Nov. 7, 2014. Born 18, 1928 in Danville, VA, Leo graduated from the University of Virginia in 1950. He then proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, then continued serving his country working for the N.S.A. in Washington, D.C. In 1961 Leo moved his family to Florida to work in the beer industry in Miami, and later in Tampa. During his career, he travelled extensively and never met a stranger. He was an active member of St. John Greek Orthodox Church for over 34 years, and was a fixture at Jan Platt Library during election seasons. Leo is preceded in death by his brothers, Charles and Sam; and brother in law, James Kazazes. He is survived by Anne, his loving wife of 59 years; daughters, Paula (Bill) Weinberg and Michele Sakellaris; grandchildren: Christopher Lewis, Alexander Weinberg and Nicole Weinberg; sister, Anne Kazazes; brothers, Pete (Sylvia) Sakellaris and Chris (Ardele) Sakellaris; sister-in-law, Mary Ethel Sakellaris, as well as many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and extended family of relatives and friends. Leo left love wherever he went. Visitation & Trisagion service , 10th, 6-8 p.m. at at Blount & Curry MacDill Chapel, 605 S. MacDill Ave, Tampa, FL. services will be held , 11th at 10 a.m. St. John Greek Orthodox Church. Interment to follow at Garden of Memories. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Leo's memory to the Ladies Philoptochos Society of St. John. |
