Obituary: Clarita Guerrero Rosales was born on 21, 1938 to Thomas Rosales and Florentina Guerrero in Pasay City, Manila, Philippines. The 2nd eldest of 6 children she became the primary caretaker of her family at a very young age. At 14, Clarita was forced to quit school to dedicate herself full time in order to provide for her mother, 4 sisters and 1 brother. She worked from dusk till dawn as a street vendor selling various fruits and vegetables. She was soon able to establish a reserved spot inside the market and continued to work there until the age of 25 when she finally agreed to accept the marriage proposal of Arturo Ordiales Rosario, also of Pasay City. As an enlisted serviceman in the US Navy, Arturo brought Clarita to various military bases including Subic Bay, the birthplace of their first 2 children, Nevada, Louisiana and San Diego where they eventually settled. In 1970, they were able to purchase their first home in Paradise Hills, an emerging Filipino community. While Arturo was still in the Navy, Clarita was left alone to raise 4 small children yet she was still able to earn extra money as a part time babysitter and Avon Lady. She also became a weekend vendor at the local swap meet, selling mostly wood carvings imported from her mother in law in the Philippines. She also began making homemade tocino and longonisa in her garage and selling it to her Filipino neighbors. In 1974, with the increasing demand for Filipino goods and services, fueled by the local Naval base, Arturo and Clarita opened a modest market to meet the need for local, familiar fare. In 1975, they purchased the 4 neighboring properties, and built what was to be known for the next 25 years as "Rosarios Oriental Store". From there, they became the supplier to smaller markets in neighboring cities that opened in subsequent years. were also able to buy other businesses including Bolinao Trading in National City and Orient Valley in Rancho Penasquitos. were truly pioneers of Filipino business entrepreneurs by establishing the first store built solely to cater to the needs of the Filipino Community. From the humble beginnings in her garage to running and managing three different store locations, it was truly a family run business. From her two eldest driving to the LA markets and bargaining for produce and returning to help cook up a full menu to her two youngest in charge of cashiering, stocking shelves, and bookkeeping, Clarita made sure that every family member played a role in servicing the customers of the Filipino community. In order to ensure the success of each child, they refused to stop working until their youngest graduated from college. finally retired in 1995. Clarita continued to support her family sending remittance and balikbayan boxes to her Mom and siblings all of whom remained in the Philippines. She was also able to help family on Arturos side set up business of their own including managing properties and purchasing taxis. Having worked the majority of her life, she continued giving of herself by moving in with each of her children to help to raise her eleven grandchildren. She insisted on be called Nanay as Grandma made her feel old and she truly was like a Mom to her grandchildren. She spent much of her time cooking for family, gardening and fishing. Later in life, she picked up her husbands hobby of playing poker. She was always lucky in Las Vegas and became a force to be reckoned with in tournaments. Clarita, Aling Claring or Nanay to family, was a kind, and loving person. Her offer to help anyone in need financially or otherwise is a testament to her generosity and selflessness. Although we celebrate her life today as she enters Heavens gates, she will be truly missed by everyone here whose lives have been touched by her spirit of giving. Obituary: Antonia Tuason del Rosario passed away on , 14, 2014. She was 73. Antonia was born on 13, 1941 in Tayuman, Rizal, Philippines to Pedro del Rosario and Luz Tuazon. She was the second of the del Rosario children, preceded by brother Telisforo and followed by sister Aguida. When Antonia was 3 years old her father, Pedro, passed away. Antonia's mother, Luz, never remarried and Antonia and her brother and sister were raised in a strict Catholic household. Antonia enjoyed growing up surrounded by her many first cousins and other close relatives and friends, many of whom she remained in regular contact with for more than 55 years. high school Antonia worked fulltime as a production worker in a textile factory. To earn extra money Antonia sold balut (developing duck embryo boiled in the shell), candy, and cigarettes part-time as an independent vendor. Antonia's brother and sister each moved away from home to start their own families when they were in their 20s. Because she was the eldest daughter, Antonia felt that it was her duty to remain single and to care for her mother, despite there being several suitors for Antonia's hand in marriage. Antonia never married and never had children of her own. Still, this never prevented Antonia from experiencing the ups and downs of raising children. Antonia's brother Telisforo, his wife Nita, and their family remained in Pateros, Metro Manila, Philippines and Antonia enjoyed doing her part as a good auntie in helping to raise her nephews Armando and Gerardo and niece Cecille whenever the opportunity presented itself. Antonia felt that she had the best of both worlds because she was free as a single woman to pursue her favorite hobbies and activities such as reading and bowling while also enjoying the perks of being an auntie. In 1986 Antonia moved to the U.S. to live with her sister Aguida, her sister's husband Feliciano Reyes Santos and their children, sons Ray and Fel, and daughter Lyn. The move reunited Antonia with her mother who had moved-in with the Santos family in 1983. Antonia lived as an important, respected, and loved member of the Santos family for the rest of her life. Antonia enjoyed many years as Grand Auntie to one grandnephew and two grandnieces on her brother's side and to four grandnephews and three grandnieces on her sister's side. Antonia worked many years as a production worker for several large companies before retiring in 2004. Before and after retirement, Antonia traveled to the Philippines, Canada, New York, New Jersey, San Francisco, Oxnard, and Los Angeles to spend time with cousins and with close friends whom she grew up with as a child in Pateros, Metro Manila. In her retirement years Antonia enjoyed taking daily walks at the local park, taking care of a backyard orchid garden, and bowling as physical exercise. For mental exercise Antonia enjoyed reading books and solving crossword puzzles. Antonia's favorite activity was staying in regular telephone contact with her many cousins and close friends around the world. Antonia always appreciated receiving pre-paid phone cards as a birthday gift or for other special occasions. A viewing will be held , 23, from 5 to 9 pm at Glen Abbey in Bonita, CA at 3838 Bonita Road. The funeral service will be held , 24, at 1 pm at The Little Chapel of the Roses located inside Glen Abbey Memorial Park, with burial service at Glen Abbey Memorial Park. |
