(714) 893-2421 MOMs EULOGY READ AT HER FUNERAL ON 2/10/2010: • On behalf of my Dad and our family, thank you for coming today to pay respect to our Mom, to honor her with your presence, to grieve with us, and to share in the memory of her. • My brother and sisters contributed to this eulogy and we decided to stand here together to honor Mom. • We wanted to capture specific thoughts and memories of Mom that are special to us and that we wanted to express here today. This is for you Mom. • Gods Word is so beautiful. Listen to the words of Psalm 139: 13-17 13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mothers womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, 16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! [Thats a beautiful scripture that talks about Gods intimate and individual design of each of us and Gods specific purpose for each of our lives] • Mom was born on 14, 1938 in Harlingen, Texas. At the very tip of Texas. • She was the 4th born of 5 children. She has 3 sisters: Our Auntie Delmira, Delia, and Avelina and she has 1 brother: Our Uncle Rudy. • Her mother died when she was 5 years old. She never had the opportunity to experience the love of a mother growing up through her tender years. Dad has told us that he was very impressed and proud how motherhood came instinctively to Mom with her own children. • She grew up under challenging circumstances. At a young age, alongside her brother and sisters, she had to work hard to help provide for the family. I cannot imagine how that must have affected Moms youth. But, times were uniquely tough back then and everyone in the family had to pull together to survive. These experiences are what prepared Mom, shaped and molded her for things yet to come. Through it all, Mom had a strong determination to make it, a determination that came from somewhere deep within her. • When mom was 15 years old she moved from San Jose to Orange and met Dad. She worked at the Knotts Berry Farm Chicken Dinner Restaurant when she was 18 years old and knew Mrs. Knott personally. Mom always liked to tell the story of how Mrs. Knott threw her a wedding shower. • Mom & Dad were married on 29, 1960; Dad was 25 years old and Mom was 22 years old; they have six children, each one of us up here today; and they currently have 8 grandchildren. • While we were in the hospital this week, many stories of Mom were told and one thing was very clear to me.a theme that characterized Mom..and that was her strength. Each and every experience Mom had as a child, as tough as it must have been, shaped her into a very strong woman. Just as scripture says, our days are ordained by God. Well the days ordained for Mom carried a purpose for her which she embraced whole-heartedly, with her whole being. Mom found her most important purpose, and words cannot describe enough the purpose that Mom found with Dad and with her children. • This month marks 56 years since Dad first laid eyes on Mom..Dad remembers being somewhere in a parking lot and noticed Mom and her friends around a car. Mom was sitting in the back seat of a black & white Buick and Dads eyes locked on to Moms face. That moment is frozen in time in Dads mind. To this day, Dad says he can remember her sitting in that car on that day. • I think Dad was smitten at that point, but his attempts to get Moms attention were a tough thing as Mom played hard to get. Dad remembers asking Mom to dance at a party one night and Mom played it cool, as she was still sizing this guy up. She told Dad her name was Martha just in case Dad ended up being a weirdo. When Dad heard her ame for the first time, he said to her, hmmm, Martin & Martha, that sounds good. But no reply came from Mom. No matter, Dad was patient at his game. Im sure through Dads connections, he soon learned her real name, and continued his dance towards Mom. • Dad recalls going to an Anaheim dance hall at Broadway and Manchester one night. Dad saw Mom walking in with a bunch of her friends. He says he does not know what got into him but he called out Moms name. When Mom turned around and started walking towards Dad, he thought, oh no, what do I do now. Dad mustered enough courage to ask Mom out and Mom gave in.she accepted. I don know if Mom just had pity on Dad or felt that she had tortured him enough by semi-ignoring him during the bit of continued... |
