Obituary: Linda Rabe Resident of Milpitas Kiss an angel good morning and let her know you think about her when shes gone. On May 4, 2010, Linda Rabe floated to heaven on her angel wings. Those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. She gave us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life. Her paint brush moved color across a canvas as well as coloring our lives with love. She will always be remembered for blowing bubbles, finding images in clouds, and storing fairy wishes in a jar. Lindas passion for life started with her family and extended to her community. You would often find her gardening our lives at arts commission meeting with creative ideas, donating her time to museums, and costuming theater performances. She always had time for a cup of coffee, a good story, a game of pinochle, or just a nice long visit. Lindas legacy is in the loves of her life; her best friend and loving husband Jim, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, her many extended family and friends, Icky (aka William), and her chestnut tree. Adorable Linda, we scrunch our noses to you! The viewing will to be held at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary on May 12 between 5 and 9 PM. The Vigil/Rosary will be held at 7 PM. Obituary: Geraldine A. Rabe, 96, a resident of Long Beach for the last 68 years, died 16, after a short illness. Born in Duluth, Minnesota, 9, 1915, she was raised on a working farm, after her father, Joseph Scanlan, an engineer and surveyor for the railroad, moved his family, and settled on 200 acres of rich farmland near Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. Enjoying an idilic childhood of dogs, cats, farm animals and an older sister and younger brother, Geraldine often remembered days of summer tornados, winter snow storms and of walking to school through woods filled with deer and timber wolves. She survived school yard bullies, hungry wolves and a 40 mile open car ride through snowstorms, to reach the surgeon who saved her life from a childhood burst appendix. At 17 she met Bill Rabe, her future husband, who, also 17, walked out of her fathers cornfield where he had been hunting pheasants. Smitten by his good looks and boyish charm she fell in love. Her father ended the romance almost immediately because Bill was not Irish and not Catholic. At nineteen she graduated from Teachers and was hired to teach eight grades, in a one room school house on the prairie. With her earnings she helped supplement her parents meager farm earnings during the great depression. At twenty something she traveled to California on a vacation with a disabled girl friend who could not drive, as evidenced by her numerous crashes in nearly every township they passed through. In Los Angeles she worked in a laundry by day and slept in the car at night until she and her friend had earned enough to repair the car, and had seen all the sights there were to see in California. Upon returning home she helped care for her father who was now dying with cancer. his death, she moved with her mother, brother and sister to Long Beach, where she found work as a Rosy the Riveter at the Long Beach Douglas Aircraft Plant, working on the wings of B-17s. Walking on Pine Ave one afternoon, her sister Josephine spotted Bill, Geraldines first (and only) love , now a soldier, walking out of a department store. Invited home for supper, Geraldine and Bill were soon engaged. Married just before he was shipped overseas to be stationed with the Flying Tigers, Geraldine waited until the end of the war, with her baby daughter, Mary Ann, for Bills return. In 1947 they purchased their first and only home in Los Altos, becoming the first family to move there. While raising three children, a teacher, a policemen and a business executive, Geraldine was active in her church, boys and girls scouting, little league, PTA, volunteer work, substitute teaching, and eventually senior citizens groups. She had a zest for life, was a life long Democrat who argued politics with her conservative friends. She loved being a wife and mother, gardening, visiting with her friends and attending her church. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter; Mary Ann Cobb, and son-in-law Jack Cobb of Rancho Santa Margarita Ca; son Joseph Rabe and daughter-in-law Patricia Rabe of Temecula Ca; son Michael Rabe and daughter-in-law Lynn Rabe of Lake Havasu City Az; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna Scanlan; her husband Wilbert Rabe; her brother Morris Bud Scanlan; and her sister Josephine Trautman. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. , 22, 2011, at Luyben Family Mortuary, 5161 E. Arbor Road, Long Beach, with family greeting from 3-6 p.m. services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wensday, 23, 2011, at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church, 5195 E. Stearns St, Long Beach, with Rev.
