Obituary: Dr. J. Paul Rohr, 93, of Charleston passed away on 8, 2015 at Valley . He was a 1939 graduate of Charleston High School. Dr. Rohr attended the University of Baltimore School of Dentistry where he received his doctorate, with training at West Virginia University and Yale. Dr. Rohr was a Veteran of the United States Army AirCorps. Dental School, he completed a year-long dental residency at Cleveland Clinic, returning to Charleston establishing his life-long dental practice on Quarrier Street located in the Atlas Building. Initially, Dr. Rohr was one of the only dentists in the state to provide the root canal procedure. He was instrumental in helping establish the first dental clinic in the Kanawha Valley, which later became part of CAMC. For many years he spent his time volunteering at the Tiskelwah Elementary Dental Clinic for Children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mafford Phillip and Alice Margaret (Hess) Rohr, brother, Phillip Hess Rohr. Dr. Rohr is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Grimm Rohr. Children; Gail Rohr Bradam of South Charleston, Joan Rohr Swengel (Mathew) of Morgantown, Jay Paul Rohr (Jan), of Charleston and Kelley Rohr Oler (Marc) of Bedford, Texas; Nephew, Randolph Phillip Rohr. Grandchildren, Joseph Bradam, Justin Clark Swengel, Christian Rohr, Mitchell Rohr, Claire Rohr and great-grandchild, Hailey Jo Bradam. Service will be held , 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Canaan United Methodist Church, 401 Roane Street, Charleston, WV 25302, with Rev. Johnna Russo officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. 12, 2015 at the . |
