Obituary: Betty Jean Beck Roton, 85, passed away peacefully on 9, 2017 at her home. She was born on 18, 1931 to Maudie E. Hall Beck and Thomas Duncan Beck, Sr. She grew up in Mount Carmel, Alabama, and graduated from Highland School. Betty was happily married to Frank Lewis Roton for 42 years. were members of the Hope Hull United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Frank Lewis Roton, mother Maudie E. Hall Beck, father Thomas Duncan Beck, Sr., step-mother Opal Inez Beck, brother Thomas Duncan Beck, Jr., step-sister Hazel Davis Beck, step-sister Evelyn Davis Reynolds and step-brother Jim Davis. She is survived by three step-children, Frank Austin Roton (Lisa), Guerry Allen Roton (Martha), and Deborah Lynn Kim (John), nephew William Thomas Rusty Davis, step-sister Easter Davis Tidwell, step-sister Ella Sue Davis Mims, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Betty was the dedicated Business Manager of Alabama Printers for over 40 years. She was initiated into Order of the Eastern Star Montgomery Chapter 180 in 1973 and she served as Associate Grand Conductress, Associate Matron, and Worthy Matron and Grand Martha 1989-90.The Roton family expresses appreciation to special friends and neighbors - Barbara Hare, Debbie and Dale Moncrief. Obituary: A memorial service for Thomas "Big Al" Rothwell, 86 years old, will be 13, 2017, at 6 pm at Chapel Hill with Pastor Matt Hedley officiating. The family will receive friends two hours before the service at the funeral home. Big Al was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a loyal friend to many. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ellie Rothwell; his daughter, Susan (Ted), and sons, Brian, Bruce (Marta), and Brett (Sandy); grandchildren, Jeff Hanline, Trisha Bjugson (Ben), Lauren Rothwell, Kristen Rothwell, Maya Rothwell, Micaella Rothwell, Mia Rothwell, Melia Rothwell; and a great-grandchild, Payton Hanline. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Violet Rothwell and his beloved Aunt Winnie Hopper. Big Al was born and raised in Paterson, NJ. high school he went to work for the Linen Thread . Two years later he enlisted in the US Navy and served on the USS Kleinsmith. his military service, he returned to the Linen Thread where he worked as an auditor. In 1958, he was transferred to the company's Blue Mountain mill where he remained and retired after 45 years with the company. Big Al was devoted to the Anniston community. He worked with the Calhoun Chamber of Commerce, the Cerebral Palsy foundation, the Salvation Army, and the YMCA. He served as the president of the Saks High School PTA and Band boosters in the 1970's. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Anniston National Bank. He was a founding member of the Lenlock Investment Club and recently retired due to health issues. He was appointed to the commission for Fort McClellan redevelopment. His greatest love was for the men and women of Blue Mountain whom he saw not as employees but a part of a greater community family. Al dabbled in the arts. He experimented with painting, wood working, and writing. He wrote poetic and prose passages about life and people who influenced him. But his greatest love was for music. He was an accomplished trumpet player and in his younger days played in a jazz group known as the knights. Later in life he played to entertain his family. It was not unusual to walk in the house and hear a melody of old coming from his office. Al was a Mason and member of the Zamora Shriners. He was a member of the American Legion of New Jersey for 60 years. Al Rothwell was a member of the Weaver First United Methodist Church.
