Obituary: Henry Jay Robinson was a Washington native, born in Spokane, WA the summer of 1917 to Jay and Eunice Robinson. He passed quietly at home on 12, 2014 at age 96 with his wife Doris Robinson age 96 at his side. He was one of three boys and loved the Northwest. His father was a salesman for Kelloggs and later sold insurance. In his last years he was a caretaker of a large estate on Bainbridge Island. He was tragically killed on Bainbridge Island many years ago by a car racing to catch the ferry. He had two brothers Dick and Fred. Dick was a famous photographer in the infamous Olympic Hotel and Fred was a Navy vet and a theater manager in Seattle He especially looked forward to the summers on Hood Canal and Nortons Resort in the San Juan Islands where he did a lot of sailing, playing tennis and cards with friends. He loved his high school days at Broadway High in Seattle. The family lived in a Seattle downtown apartment so it was a close walk to school. He knew and remembered the names of everyone. He was continually involved in school events and was on the school paper and several clubs and committees. He shared the spotlight at the school paper with a classmate who became a writer for Bob Hope. He was in charge of the school theater props and scenery sets. He became quite the player of cribbage and bridge. Canasta was another favorite. He was very active and his athletics were somewhat limited but he enjoyed a great tennis game. He entered the US Army in WWII and was stationed at Ft. Lewis managing various offices and traveling with POWs. He was discharged as a Staff Sargent. He always wanted to go overseas with the other guys, but his bad eyesight kept him here. It was then that he met Doris at the Olympic Hotel, now known as the Four Seasons. A special place where the GIs would gather. At that meeting he asked Doris if she would like to meet his parents so they boarded a ferry late that night, woke up his parents and his father made them pancakes in the morning. He told his dad that his is the gal I am going to marry! He loved trains. In his parents home he had set up a large display table decked out with track and landscaping to run the old Lionels. He was proud to run them through his detailed dioramas when he brought Doris to Silverdale to visit the family. the war Doris and Hank were married. He left for a time when he got a job offer on a ship as a purser to travel from Seattle to Costa Rica to pick up freight. He loved it down there and always told stories about his adventure and his duties as a quasi-medic. Doris had a daughter Lynda and he officially adopted her when she was five. Their son Greg was born in 1950. Most of his career was as a credit manager for local companies, including Alaska Airlines, and he retired several years ago as a real estate agent for Windermere Shoreline. He was known as the gentle Scotsman with a smile for everyone and his humorous wit. He was a kind and gentle man. He always had a twinkle in his eye and loved reading the comics to himself and his children. It was a paper ritual. He knew all the characters and their stories. He worked as a credit manager for several companies including Standard Oil and Alaska Airlines, and then retired from Windermere real estate when he had a stroke almost 20 years ago. He loved big, solid cars and his first car was a Dodge Sedan. His favorite was the long and lean Cadillac Deville and of course the infamous Packard with the cavernous back seat and burgundy mohair upholstery. He taught Lynda to drive in that beast of a car, by her steering and he would work the pedals. In 1997 he suffered a stroke. Doris has continued to care for him in their home until his passing. Charlie set him up with a computer so he could play cards. Day after day he would spend hours playing cards on the computer. He was proud of his family and enjoyed his great grandchildren Taylor and Kyler. He loved Christmas with the family and it was always an event because He made it to another Christmas. Hank and Doris were baptized in 1984 at Calvary Temple. He is survived by his wife Doris, his daughter Lynda Wilson and husband John, sons Charlie Wilson and Greg Robinson, his favorite and only grandchild, Charlies wife Lori, who he loved dearly and great grandchildren, Kyler and Taylor. were a joy to his heart. under the direction of Acacia Memorial Park & , Seattle, Washington. |
