Obituary: Verna Reiswig
Northwest Community Church, 2 P.M.
19, 2015

Verna Sarah Stoller was born to Gil and Marie Stoller in Metolius, Oregon, on 19. 1918, one of three children. She received her long-awaited reward on 7, 2015, at her group home in Moses Lake surrounded by the immediate family. She is survived by her children, Lee (Janie) and Jolyne (Bob) Bozeman, grandchildren Jenny Klassen, Tanya Spitzli, Becky Binz, and Paul Reiswig, and by her great grandchildren Noah, Lynsey, Hannah, Caitlin, Zachary, Isaac and Isaiah, her brother Paul Stoller, and several nieces and nephews.

Vernas family moved to Round Butte, Oregon, and then to a farm west of Portland, Oregon, in 1927. Later the family moved to Walla Walla, Washington, where Verna attended grade school. Verna met Art Reiswig in 1935, at the Pantorium Cleaners in Walla Walla where Art worked. were married on 1, 1940, by Vernas uncle, Pastor George Kleinbach. moved to Seattle in 1940 where their children, Lee and Jolyne, were born. celebrated their 50th year anniversary in 1990. Art passed away in 1996. living near the Woodland Park Zoo, they built two homes on Mercer Island, two in Normandy Park, and one in South Seattle. Verna would design the homes, Art would build them, and then Verna would decorate them. She was excellent at painting, wallpapering, and decorating. Art said he would build the kitchen but Verna would be the one to use it. made quite a team. Lee and Jolyne do not remember hearing even a single argument between them.

During that time Verna and Art were very active in several churches. In 1948 they were founding members of the Mercer Island Covenant Church and served under several pastors. Teaching school brought her much joy. In 1984 they transferred their membership to Faith Covenant Church in Renton. had the gift of hospitality which especially was extended to the pastors they served under and their families. Many pastors felt free to take off their shoes and relax in their home.

Verna was a great cook. One time Verna and Art treated Lee, Janie, Jolyne and Bob to a brunch at a nearby hotel. over-eating there, they returned to Verna and Arts home and Verna insisted that they eat the full-course turkey dinner she had prepared. Out of respect to her and her good cooking, they somehow ate another meal. Verna showed her love for family by cooking four meals a day for Lee when he was in a growth spurt. Jolyne especially remembers the spiritual notes Verna wrote on the bottom of recipe cards that Jolyne was given when she was married. Verna loved to make kitty pancakes for her grandchildren and the Ort girls who were neighbors. enjoyed having friends and family over for dinner or dessert.

Love, kindness and generosity were qualities of Verna that stood out. She was always willing to help others in any way she could. Babysitting neighborhood kids, like Jessie and John Hollowell, was a joy. She loved children, be it school, grandchildren, great grandchildren, or neighborhood kids.

Almost every year for 40 years the Reiswig family would join together for camping, usually at Salmon La Sac. Everyone has fond memories of Verna. She had our health in mind as we can still picture her wiping the tables and benches off with alcohol and spraying for ants. Throughout the years she enjoyed having friends and neighbors join us. She loved looking at the stars at night and enjoyed nature, especially birds and flowers. Verna was very creative and expressed it in cooking, crafts, and designing and decorating their homes.

Verna and Art showed their love and generosity by treating Lee and Jolyne and their families to
many trips including Disneyland, Disneyworld, Washington D.C., Hawaii, and on cruises to Ensenada, Alaska, and the Caribbean. Verna even prepared a complete turkey dinner and brought it on the plane to Hawaii for our Thanksgiving dinner. Many offered to eat the pumpkin pies that she carried on the plane. Each of the family is so thankful for the treasured memories they have of these trips together, ones they shall never forget.

Vernas faith in God was a central part of her life and could be seen through her love for family and others expressed through her kindness, generosity, her gift of hospitality and her creativity. She had an infectious laugh that lifted our spirits. God used her to touch and bless many lives. She was the hands of Jesus here on earth. As family members reflect on Vernas life these qualities will be remembered: the love of Christ filled her heart and showed in both words and actions. She walked her talk in faith. She had a gentle and giving spirit and she found things to be thankful for in difficult times and as her health declined in the later years. She was loved, respected and appreciated by all who knew her.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on , 19, 2015, at Northwest Community Church, 11715 North Creek Pkwy S., Suite 110, Bothell, WA 98011.
