Obituary: IN MEMORY OF BETTY J. RIDGEWAY Betty J. Ridgeway, beloved wife of the late Harry V. Ridgeway, passed away on 18, 2010 at Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA. She was living at the Leewood care in Annandale, VA for about the last 11 months due to failing health. She was 78. Betty was a homemaker after her retirement from working in the food service industry with the Fairfax School system. Betty was born in Fauquier , VA (Warrenton) to Ada L. Marshall and Roy B. Davis. She first lived in Washington, DC with her mother. She moved to Falls Church, VA after marrying Harry and having 4 lovely children, Russell, Rhonda, Ronald, and Renee. She lived there for 30 years. She then moved to a condo in Annandale, VA where she lived for 25 years. Betty and Harry loved to travel. Every year they made it a point to go somewhere. had traveled to the Smoky Mountains in TN, up and down the Florida coast where they decided that Daytona Beach, FL was their favorite Florida spot to go to every year. also visited Canada the year before her husband Harry died. In the last years Betty would go with her daughter Rhonda and friends to Ocean City, MD. She so looked forward to the trip every year. During the fall when leafs would start to change colors Betty and son Ron and his wife Sandra would go to visit Luray and Front Royal. Her favorite stop would be at the Apple house for: jellys, jams, apples, pies, and donuts. She is survived by her 4 children, Russell V. Ridgeway and wife Lynne of Sumerduck, VA, Rhonda Ruano-Soto and husband Anuncio of Woodbridge, VA, Ronald W. Ridgeway and wife Sandra of Fredericksburg, VA, and Renee D. Ridgeway of Falls Church, VA; 8 grandchildren: Laurie, Brian, Amanda, Ana, Justin, Shelly, Blake, and Brady; 5 great grandchildren: Michael, Jacob, Tyrese, Amelia, Anthony and another one on the way. She is also survived by her half-sister Susan Schofield and husband Neal, of Woodbridge, VA, as well as a niece Kimberly Foster and husband Brian, of Stafford, VA. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Harry, mother Ada L. Graham, stepfather Chester Graham and father Roy B. Davis. Betty will forever be remembered by her loving family and friends. Obituary: Jeanette Cuthrell (Jan) Ridge, 82, of the 4800 block of Kempsville Greens Parkway, died on Labor Day evening, 1, surrounded by her loving sons. Jeanette was a person of great integrity and kindness. She is dearly loved by many, and as she faced her illness it was humbling to be in the presence of her bravery. She had a long career as an educator and counselor, teaching first in the Norfolk Public Schools and later in Virginia Beach at Bayside Middle School and Independence Middle School, where she became head of the Guidance Department. Jan touched the lives of countless children, especially those in need that could not be reached by others. There can be no doubt that she positively changed the lives of many, and those she assisted through childhood difficulties are now raising their own families having benefited from the love she gave them, and the trust she earned. Born in Norfolk on May 10, 1932, Jeanette was the daughter of Bishop Marvin Cuthrell, Sr. and Kate Parrish Cuthrell. She grew up in Colonial Place and graduated from Maury High School in 1950. She then attended the University of North Carolina Greensboro, and later received advanced degrees from Old Dominion University. She was preceeded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Jerrold A. (Jerry) Ridge, who passed away in 2005. Her memory will be cherished by her sons Bruce of Raleigh, Michael and daughter-in-law Janet of Falls Church, David and daughter-in-law Cheri and her greatly loved grandsons Samuel and Jeremy, of San Francisco, as well as her many, many friends. Her family and friends will celebrate their great privilege in having known Jeanette in their lives at a memorial service on 21, to be held at Smith and Williams , 4889 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her name to the Virginia Symphony, 150 Boush St., Norfolk, VA 23510. Obituary: Virginia Beach - Brendan Patrick Ridge died 8, 2016, after a long struggle with multiple sclerosis. Born in 1944 in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the son of James Martin Ridge and his wife Eileen Maude, both of Ireland. Brendan graduated from Boston with a bachelor's degree in political science. He began his working career as a social studies teacher, then joined the U.S. Navy, which brought him to Virginia Beach. being stationed in Pensacola, Florida, the family returned to Virginia Beach, where Brendan became a real estate broker and president of Century 21-Ridge Realty. For 47 years he was a loving and devoted husband to Dorothy L. (Dottie) Ridge. In addition to his beloved wife, Brendan leaves behind his daughter, Arlene Ridge, and son, Mark Ridge, both of Virginia Beach; brothers Jim (in San Diego) and Kevin (in Boston); and nieces and nephews and other relations in the U.S. and Ireland. He was predeceased by his sister Catherine and his brother Francis. There will be a visitation 5-7 p.m. Feb. 13 at Smith & Williams , 4889 Princess Anne Rd in Virginia Beach. A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. , Feb. 15, at the Church of the Holy Family at 1279 N. Great Neck Rd. in Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested for the Princess Anne Courthouse Volunteer Rescue Squad. |
