Obituary: John Clark Ridenour, age 91, peacefully passed away on 26, 2016 in Spokane, Washington. John was born 26, 1924, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of John Warren Ridenour and Fay Ellen Slough Ridenour, the last of seven children. He married Beatrice Walker Ridenour in West Virginia in 1945, and they enjoyed a 62-year marriage until her death in 2007. He is survived by his children: Sharon Ridenour Wrenn, of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Alan Ridenour, of McGaheysville, Virginia; and Virginia Ridenour Baldwin of Spokane, Washington. He was a loving grandfather of five: Melanie, John Matthew, Lauren, Ross, and Eric; and great-grandfather of five: Mackenzie, Alexandra, Josie Bea, Johnson, and Caroline. A member of the Greatest Generation, John proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Fire Controlman Third Class on an LST ship in the Pacific during World War II. Later while on leave in Washington, D.C., he met Beatrice. When they married, they moved to Jumping Branch, West Virginia, to help operate Beatrice’s family mercantile store. Later, he worked as a telegrapher from 1950 to 1958 for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad in small train stations all over Southern West Virginia. In the late 1950’s he began working at the Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation in Ravenswood, West Virginia, where the family later relocated. He and Beatrice and family were members of Calvary Baptist Church and later the Second Baptist Church in Ravenswood. He and Beatrice worked hard and made sure all their children were able to graduate from college. When John retired after 25 years at Kaiser, he and Beatrice realized a life-long dream of living in Florida. moved to 1370 Melshire Avenue in Deltona. were members of the Deltona Lakes Baptist Church and volunteered for 27 years at Central Florida Regional Hospital. Over their 62-year marriage, John and Beatrice traveled extensively in all 50 states, Canada, and Europe. John visited all six continents during his lifetime. Not long after Beatrice passed away in 2007, John moved to live with Virginia and Alan Baldwin in Chapel Hill, Tennessee. Virginia and Alan became his loving caretakers as he suffered several serious health problems. He shared many happy vacations with his children over those years, camping trips and vacations in Washington, D.C., San Antonio; Santa Fe; Las Vegas; Phoenix; Chattanooga; Nashville; and Memphis. This year in May, John moved to Spokane, Washington, with Virginia and Alan due to their job relocation. He suffered a broken hip in early May, but he had learned to walk again by . John was amazingly resilient; the family referred to him as the Energizer Bunny. He enjoyed his final days at the Baldwin’s mountaintop home outside Spokane. John was a lover of trains. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and walking on the Florida beaches. He was a kind and generous man and will be remembered by his family for his quiet nature, his great sense of humor, and his love of family and of the Lord. Obituary: Barbara Johnson Forward Riddleberger, age 79, died on 11, 2014 in Harrisonburg, Virginia at home. Barbara was born 17, 1934 and was the daughter of Edward Hampton Johnson and Talma Elizabeth Zell Johnson of Narrows, Virginia. Barbara grew up in Narrows graduating from Narrows High School in 1952. She then attended Madison graduating in 1956 with a BS degree in Education. On 21, 1956, Barbara married Dr. F. Bruce Forward, Jr. who preceded her in death in 1975. She was also preceded in death by her parents and sister Elizabeth Ann Simmons. On 11, 1979 she married H. D. Ike Riddleberger who has preceded her in death on 6, 2014. Barbara is survived by a brother William Johnson, a brother-in-law Jim Simmons, and by three children, Beth Burgess and husband John of Portsmouth, RI, Katherine Forward of Richmond, VA, and Bruce Forward of Penn Laird, VA. Surviving also are grandchildren, Will Burgess and wife Brittany, David Burgess, Jack Burgess, Sam Burgess, Katie Forward, and Beau Forward. Also surviving are step- children Jan Keaton of Dayton, VA and Julie Riddleberger of Scottsville, VA. Surviving step-grandchildren are Becky Mills and husband Mark of Farmville, VA, Debbie Forticelli and husband David of Richmond, VA, and Liz Marshall and husband Tom of Seattle, WA. Surviving step-great-grandchildren are Joseph, Daniel, Aaron, David, Amy, Adam and Jonathan. Barbara taught school in Charlottesville, VA, Harrisonburg City schools and Rockingham . She also was a substitute teacher. She was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she taught School and was a member of the adult choir for many years. She was also a member of the Spotswood Garden Club and sang in the Shenandoah Valley Choral Society for many wonderful years. The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 PM, , 15, 2014 at Lindsey in Harrisonburg. A graveside service will be held 1:00 PM, , 16, at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens and a memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM, at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Stephen Hay officiating. Obituary: Kay Lowe Riddlebarger, 71, died at her home in Concord on 18, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. The daughter of the late Woodrow and Carrie (Polly) Lowe, Kay was born 19, 1942 in Edenton, NC. She is a 1960 graduate of Edenton High School as well as later going on to receive an associates degree from CVCC. Growing up on the family farm in Eastern North Carolina, Kay became an incredibly strong and capable woman; she could do anything she set her mind to, and do it well. She was an expert cook, gardener, and needle worker, and was well-known for her bowling prowess, taking part in many leagues over the years and participating in tournaments around the country. Kay held several jobs throughout her lifetime, starting with the CIA in 1960 and finally retiring from Areva in 2004. She was also a literacy tutor for the Campbell Public Library after she retired. In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by one granddaughter. Kay is survived by her husband of 51 years, H. Ray Riddlebarger and their three daughters: Julie Riddlebarger and husband Charles Simmons of Abu Dhabi, UAE; Karen Kaiser of Dallas, TX; and Brandy Clemenson and husband Scott of Concord. She also leaves five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Kay is also survived by three brothers and two sisters and their families: Larry Lowe of McAllen, TX/ Denver, CO; Richard Lowe of Williamsburg; Nelia Lane of Hertford, NC; Ivy Mitchell of Newport News; and Garry Lowe of Knoxville, TN. In addition, she will be missed by countless cousins, nieces, nephews, two aunts, and one uncle as well as her many friends. The family would like to thank everyone who offered support and assistance during Kays illness with particular gratitude to the Staff of Centra Hospice who enabled her to spend her last days in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loved ones. A service of remembrance is will be held at 6 pm on , 23, 2014 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, with Rev. Wayne Underwood officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 7:30 and at other times at the familys residence.
