Obituary: Ruth Robertson, 97 of Beaumont died 27, 2015 at Calder Woods. Services will be at 11:00 AM on , May 1, 2015 at Forest Lawn Chapel with Rev. Ruby Nelson and Rev. Greg Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Ruth Evelyn Toney Robertson was born on 26, 1917 to Rose and Jess Toney in Daisetta, TX. She lived her life in Beaumont, graduating from South Park High School. Ruth was married to C.H. Cy Robertson on 14, 1940. She was a member of Washington Blvd. Christian Church until it closed in 1989 and is presently a member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cy Robertson; parents, Rose and Jess Toney; brother, Lynn Toney; sister-in-law, Janice Toney. Survived by her niece, Tami Lynn Toney of Pensacola, FL; nephew, Dale Brewer of Pensacola, FL and niece Carla McDonald of Stevensville, MT. Ruth and Cy loved their four dogs. also were very active in their church and making crafts together for their church bazaars. The family would like to thank the Skilled staff of Calder Woods and Bucker Hospice for taking such good care of her. |

Obituary: On 22, 1924 in the incorporated village town of Morganza (Pointe Coupee Parish), LA, located outside of Baton Rouge, the first of six children was born to Effie Brown Robertson and Mead Robertson. His parents named him Russell. Unlike some of his siblings, Russell was not born in a hospital or even a medical clinic, but at home with a midwife. Even though Morganza is not well known to most, it was identified as being the site of a Union Army encampment during the American Civil War. Its legacy would set the stage for Russells transition to a better life. As a child, Russell lived through the tough days of Jim Crow segregation and The Great Depression, but always maintained his optimism. Because his mother was a strong advocate of education, he attended a rural schoolhouse which helped to prepare him for his lifetime journey. However, after the death of his mother at the early age of 13 and as the oldest, he had to quit school to take care of his younger siblings. That experience taught him the benefits of hard work and of being a responsible and dependable person. Those lessons were the beginning of a life built on a strong work ethic. He soon determined that he would explore the world beyond the Morganza and seek a career in the U.S. Army, enlisting in 1946. Young Private Russell served his country in France & Germany during World War II, receiving a Victory Medal prior to his honorable discharge. Soon after his military discharge, Russell joined two of his younger siblings who had relocated to seek employment in the big city of Houston. He began working on various construction sites but soon thereafter, was employed as pipe fitter at Sinclair Oil Refinery (which later became Atlantic Richfield, ARCO). In 1958, Russell met the love of his life at the Mary Best Café located in the heart of Fifth Ward. One sunny day, a sassy young lady by the name of Dorothy Wade walked in wearing a bright red dress and Russell was smitten forever. The rest is history. married in 1959 and started their family. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Marva (from previous marriage), Russell Derrick, Karen and Gregory and they became a very close knit family. Russell was a true provider and after 35 years of dedicated service on his job, 28 of those years working without missing a day of work, he retired from ARCO to begin traveling and enjoying his grandchildren, family and friends. Russell also took time to enjoy many of his hobbies including fishing, attending and watching baseball and football games. He thoroughly appreciated hanging out with his fellow ARCO retirees. But probably what he loved most to do was spend time with and help to raise his grandchildren, whom he adored. He even began going on cruises with his family in order to spend quality time with them. For the most part, he was mild-mannered, but would always tell you the truth, whether you wanted him to do so or not. He was the anchor of his family and he will be truly missed. His parents, Effie & Mead Robertson, along with siblings, Leonard & Earl, preceded him in their earthly transition. To celebrate his earthly memories, he leaves his daughters, Marva and Karen; his sons, Derrick and Greg; his siblings, Mead, Jr., Oscar and Charsena; his grandchildren, Bobby, Jonathan, Gregory, Jr. and Marjorie; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends. To God be the glory for both the biological and spiritual sees that he so generously sowed. |

Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband Gary.
