Obituary: .In loving memory of Petter Brayton Lee May 23, 1929 - 29, 2016 Petter Brayton Lee was born on May 23, 1929 in Seattle, Washington to Petter Wessell and Olive Kincaid Lee. Petter grew up in Bellevue Washington as well as the Queen Ann Hill area of Seattle, with two younger sisters, Agnes and Olive. Petter (Pete) began private flying lessons at the age of 14 and received his pilots license at age 16. He graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1947. a few years at the University of Washington he joined the United States Air Force. He enlisted as a Non-Commissioned Officer on 15, 1951 and after attending Officer Training School was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant on 1, 1953. In 1953, while stationed at Laredo Air Force Base in Texas, Pete met the love of his life, Betty Ruth Million. married on 31, 1953 and began their 62 year adventure. The Air Force took them from Laredo Texas, to Virginia, onto Alaska, then Washington, California, Florida and back to Texas. Pete retired at Randolph Air Force Base on 1, 1971. He was a recognized officer with the Air Force Commendation Medal, The Purple Heart, The Bronze Star, The Distinguished Flying Cross Medal, The Good Conduct Medal and The Vietnam Service Medal. Pete went on to achieve a double major in Accounting and Math from Texas Lutheran Collage (now TLU) in Seguin, Texas and spent three more decades as a tax accountant as well as pursuing his own business ventures. Pete and Betty were blessed with 5 children, ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Pete had a passion for all things fast: boats, cars and planes. He loved building them, fixing them and going fast in them. This passion took him on many adventures from boat races, car races and air shows to flight school. He spent many hours in a friends auto body shop. The more peaceful side of Pete was seen, or heard, when he played the piano. Trained in classical piano as a child, he grew to love the ivories and as an adult enjoyed playing for family and friends. He also enjoyed serving others as an active member of the Knights of Columbus with the Church of the Good Shepard in Schertz, TX where he had become a confirmed catholic. Pete loved traveling and spending time dining out and playing cards/games with his family and friends. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Petter and Olive Lee; his sister, Agnes L. Mottern; his daughter, Janet E. Lee and his wife, Betty M. Lee. He is survived by his son, David and wife Carla Lee and their family: Brayton and Erin Lee; Travis and Jaclyn Ponder; Landon and Kinsley Ponder; and Rachel Ponder; daughter, Deborah and husband, Randy Rehmann and their family: Ryan and Amanda Rehmann; Hunter and Annabelle; Daniel and Holly Bazan and Gabriel; Aaron Rehmann and Adam Rehmann; son, James and wife, Janet Lee and their family: Allison Lee; Galen and Hannah Miller; and Megan Lee; daughter, Barbara Jean and husband Robert Barbour; sister, Olive Lee-Waters and sister-in-law, Judy and husband Don Jensen. The family visitation will be held on , 11th from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at Colonial in Universal City, Texas to include a rosary from 7:00pm to 7:30pm. Obituary: MAJ GEN William E. Shedd, III US Army, Retired age 83, passed away , May 3, 2003 in San Antonio. He was born 20, 1920 in the District of Columbia and had been a San Antonio resident since 2000. General Shedd graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1942. school in Ft. Knox, Shedd joined 14th Armed Division to European Theater Seventh Army, in South France. As a Major in 44, he was in Battalion Staff Operations. In 46, he joined G-2 SECT 3rd Army and then moved to US Forces Austria, Vienna. In 1948, Shedd returned to Ft. Knox where he spent one year with 3rd Armored Division and one year at Advanced Armor School. During 50-52, General Shedd was tactical Officer USMA. Shedd became Lt Col in 1951 and was at USMA for the 10th Reunion of the class of 42. General Shedd then went to Leavenworth in 53 followed by two years in Philippines in the Military Assistance Advisory Group. He returned to Ft. Bragg as Commander of 54th Tank Battalion of 82nd Airborne Division and became Airborne Qualified. He attended Army War in 60; Headquarters Army Pacific 60-63 and was Senior Aide to Gen Collins CINC USARPAC. General Shedd was Brigade Commanding Officer and Chief of Staff 2nd Armored Division from 1963-1965. In 65, he was the Senior Advisor for the Military Assistance Command Vietnam. He was Assistant Division Commander 1st Calvary Division in the VietNam War. He qualified in Army Aviation helicopter. Shedd became the Chief of Staff 24th CORPS from 1969-1970. Gen. Shedd was Deputy Director of the Defense Atomic Support Agency from 70-71; Deputy Chief of Staff Office USA Europe from 71-73. In 73 Shedd was Vice Director of JCS. General Shedds final assignment was as Director of the Defense Special Weapons Agency. He retired in 1977. William E. Shedd was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine H. Shedd. Obituary: Born in Byng, Oklahoma, he was the 5th of six children of Jesse and Anne Johnson, both first generation Oklahoma Territory ÂSoonersÂ. He was brought up during the Great Depression on the family farm with family faith, love and support from all the nearby relatives. He served in US Navy at the end of WWII in the Pacific and at Kodiak Island then earned his degree in geology from The University of Tulsa. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and married Anna Hahn on 30, 1955 at Randolph AFB. Two sons and many assignments followed: Brooks, Carswell, F.E. Warren, K.I. Sawyer AFB, St. Petersburg, Florida, Vietnam and Los Angeles AF Station, then back to San Antonio at Lackland then Brooks. His duties were many including a pilot flying C-47Âs for medical evacuation and supplies in the Korean War and C-7As in Vietnam, commander of a missile site during the Cuban Missile Crisis, chief of Base Ops as well as part of development of the early FAA, missile navigation systems, satellite recovery operations, recruitment and manpower assessment. He was 32nd degree Mason, a 2 handicap golfer, a kind-hearted and beloved uncle, cousin and brother, admired and cherished by a multitude of friends. A devoted and caring husband of 52 years to Anna, a model father to his sons and daughter-in-laws, Neal and Carol, Eric and Christie, a doting and Âputtering Grandpa to Ryan, Kirsten, Brittany, Rory and EJ. Obituary: Lt Col Retired AF Steven Banger Wallender flew West on the 4th of at 0900 hours, after a long and difficult struggle with cancer. Steve passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home after a courageous 13 month long battle with cancer. Steve is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Valerie Foster Wallender; his daughter, Madison Wallender; father, Thomas Wallender; mother, Janice Fischer Wallender; and his brother, Tim Wallender. Steve was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and grew up in Chandler, Arizona. He was the Valedictorian of his Chandler High School Class of 1979 and the Captain of his High School swim team. Following High School, Steve attended the United States Air Force Academy where he excelled at parachuting. He was a member of the Nation Championship Wings of Blue, while accumulating more than 800 freefall jumps. Steve graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1983 and attended Pilot Training at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma. Upon graduation, due to his superior flying skills, Steve was selected to be a T-37 Instructor Pilot, teaching fledgling pilots how to fly. serving his tour in the T-37, Steve went on to fly the F-15 Eagle. During his multiple tours in the F-15, Steve served in Operation Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and Iraqi Freedom, where he flew multiple combat missions in hostile airspace. Steve was then assigned to the United States House of Representatives as a Congressional Liaison. He then returned to the F-15. His F-15 tours were located at Bitburg AB, West Germany, Kadena AB, Okinawa Japan, Langley AFB, Virginia and Tyndall AFB, Florida. He served as the Commander of the 325th OSS until he retired in 2003. Steve was a highly decorated combat pilot with over 2000 hours in the F-15. Following Retirement, Steve flew the B757 as a First Officer with ATA airlines for one year until he was hired by Federal Express. While at FedEx, Steve flew the B727 as a Second Officer and the MD11 as a First Officer until he was diagnosed with cancer. Steve loved aviation as well as having a tremendous passion for golf. He was a member of the River Crossing Golf Course in Spring Branch, Texas. He passed on his passion for golf to his daughter Madison, who is playing on the golf team while attending Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. Blue skies, tail winds, and stay in the fairways until we meet again. The family would like to thank the staff at Canthera and Methodist Stone Oak Hospital for the wonderful care and support during these last 13 months of therapy and medical care. Obituary: CMSgt. John M. Jack McCullough, USAF Retired, died , 2, 2010 at Wilford Hall Medical , at the age of 80. He was born 27, 1930 in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of John and Daisy McCullough. Jack served almost 30 years in the U.S. Air Force with tours of duty in Germany, Viet Nam, Korea, the American Embassy in Warsaw, Poland and at several stateside bases. He retired from the Air Force in 1983 and settled with his family in San Antonio. Jack is survived by the love of his life, Evelyn Evie, his wife of 57 years and his beloved daughter Sharon McCullough of San Antonio. He is also survived by his niece, Kathy Grantz, her husband Gary and their son Jordan of Fredericksburg, Virginia; sister-in-law, Nancy Radford and nephews, Gary and Keith Radford all of Manassas, Virginia; brother-in-law, Kenneth Turner of Ashland City, Tennessee, sister-in-law, Carolyn Mangrum of Whitwell, Tennessee and their son, Jim Turner of Salecreek, Tennessee; and brother-in-law, Mack Turner and wife, Rose and their daughters, Emily and Elizabeth all of Southern Virginia. Obituary: Colonel James Donovon, J. D., Smith, US Army, Retired, passed away on 27, 2017 at the age of eighty-seven in San Antonio, Texas. J. D. was born on 20, 1929, in Dallas, Texas to Stanley Archie Smith and Opal Lucille Smith. He graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Political Science. He later obtained a Masters Degree in Political Science from the University of Alabama. He married Hallie Nanette Nita Huffman on 31, 1953. wards, the two embarked on a sixty-year adventure together beginning in the United States Army. J.D. saw service throughout the continental United States as well as Germany, Korea and Viet Nam. Over a twelve-year period, the couple welcomed three children into their home. His children remember him as a strong father with a kind heart who encouraged them to pursue their education and goals. J.D. was a child of the depression and the war years, with strong beliefs of family, duty, honor, and hard work. He often shared childhood memories of hunting squirrels at the Trinity River bottoms with lifelong friend Everett Thompson. A young man of limited means, J.D. worked the Texas oil-fields to pay his way through the University of Texas. While there, he gathered an amazing group of friends who would stay by his side to the very end. Given his avid interests in reading, firearms and all things outdoors, he focused his efforts at the University of Texas on the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC). He excelled in that endeavor and earned his commission into the United States Army. He then began a long and rewarding adventure in the Military Police Corps. During his career the two assignments he enjoyed the most were his service in Garmisch, Germany (1958-1960) and serving as Provost Marshal at the United States Military Academy (1971-1974). J.D. retired from the Military in 1974 while Provost Marshal assigned to Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. Upon retirement, J.D. and Nita retired in Manchaca Texas, just outside of Austin. He then taught Criminal Justice at Southwest Texas State University for ten years. He and Nita also co-owned and operated the local water utility company. In 2012, J.D. and Nita moved to San Antonio, Texas and lived at the Army Residence Community. J.D. was predeceased by his wife and Sweetheart, Nita Smith in May 2013. He is survived by his children, LeAnne Christensen and husband Charles of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Gray Donovon Smith and wife Judy of Kerrville, Texas; and Stanley Scott Smith and wife Paula of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kathryn Michelle Williston and husband Greg of Collinsville, Oklahoma; Captain Derek Donovon Smith, U.S. Army, and wife Magan of Monterrey, California; Anna Elizabeth Bollinger and husband Brian of Clarkston, Georgia; Justin Cody Smith and wife Alex of Richardson, Texas and Christopher James Smith of Austin, Texas. His great grandchildren are Cash and Lydia Williston, Everett and Calvin Smith, and Simon and Samuel Bollinger. He is also survived by his half brother Steve Smith of Blytheville, Arkansas. Obituary: Lt. Col. Howard T. Meek, Retired U.S.A.F, passed away 29, 2015, age 93. He was born on 19, 1922 in Burkes Garden, Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Julie; daughter, Nancy Dein and husband John; grandchildren, Laurel Dein and husband Courtland Chillingworth, David, Michael and Caroline Dein. A memorial service will be conducted at 9:30 A.M. , 6, 2015 at Air Force Village II, 5100 John D. Ryan Blvd. with interment with Air Force military honors at 1:45 P.M. at Ft. Sam Houston National . In a 24-year career in the Air Force he flew 53 different types of aircraft, with assignments in SAC, MAC and TAC. Duty stations included Germany, Libya, Japan, and many bases in the United States. He loved flying and flew until the day before he retired in 1967 and then the family returned to Texas. 6 years in civilian aviation, he worked 12 years as a corporate executive at Churchs Chicken, headquartered in San Antonio. Retiring to AFVII, he devoted himself to family, golf and model aircraft. His unique model of the XC99, made to scale from the original AF plans is displayed in the Air Force Museum, Wright-Patterson AFB. Obituary: Gary Colson Mahan Col. USA retired passed away on , 18, 2010 in San Antonio after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 78. Col. Mahan was born in Camden, Arkansas on 11, 1931. He was preceded in death by his parents, H. Colson and Selma Mahan, and also by his second wife, Julia. He is survived by his son, Keith Colson Mahan of Orlando, FL; his daughter, Lorrie Mahan Garcia and son-in-law, Carlos M. Garcia of Austin; granddaughters Alicia Garcia of Rome, Italy, Maya Garcia at the University of Virginia; and his first wife, Ernestine Whitter Mahan of Indian Harbour Beach, FL. Gary graduated from Bolles Military Academy in Jacksonville, FL before entering the University of Florida in 1949 where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He enlisted in the US Army in May, 1951 and was assigned to the 8th Infantry Division at Ft. Jackson, SC. In 1952, he attended Officers Candidate School at Ft. Bliss where he was the Honor Graduate of his class. Col. Mahan had a long and illustrious career. He fought in both Korea and Vietnam. In Korea he was assigned to the 7th Infantry Division where he commanded HQ Battery and C Battery of the 15th Airborne Division and was S3 of the 80th Airborne AAA Bn. In Vietnam he was an assistant G3 in HQ, II Field Force at Long Bien. His career history included service as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne at Ft. Bragg, NC, command of a double Nike battery in the 54th AAA Missile Bn in Maryland, command of the 8 inch Howitzer Battery of the 1st Bn, 9th Artillery, 3rd Infantry Division in Germany, and attendance at Command and General Staff at Ft. Leavenworth, KS in 1964. Following his service in Vietnam, Col. Mahan was assigned to the Pentagon in 1969 as an assistant to the Secretary of the General Staff where he performed the duties of Congressional Assistant to the Chief of Staff of the Army, General William C. Westmoreland, for three years. He commanded the 31st ADA Brigade at stead AFB, FL followed by assignment to the Army War in Carlisle, PA in 1974. He completed his military career as the Commander of the 1st ADA Training Brigade at Ft. Bliss, TX, retiring on 1, 1981. Col. Mahan holds the following decorations and awards: three Legions of Merit, Army Commendation Medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four Campaign Stars, United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, Parachutists Badge, and Army General Staff ID Badge. Col. Mahan completed his Bachelor of Science degree at St. Benedicts graduating Summa Cum Laude. Following his military career, he joined Westinghouse in Baltimore as an executive for 15 years. Col. Mahan had a passion for genealogy and reading, particularly American and World History, frequently astounding his friends and family with his recall of details and ability to bring history to life. He was an often requested Docent at the San Jose Mission for this reason. His thirst for knowledge was unquenchable. He was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite, an accomplished photographer, an avid fly fisherman and skeet and trap shooter belonging to Hill Country Shooting Sports and the Bunker Club. His shooting excellence earned him a spot in the Olympic Trials in 1988 and again in 2008. He was an active member of the San Antonio Jaguar Club and always loved hitting the open road. He was a member of the First Unitarian Universalist Church. He was a warrior, patriot, leader, gentleman, and gracious host; a great man to his children and beloved granddaughters. Obituary: Ernest M. Dapilmoto went home to our Lord on 8, 2014. He was born in Manila, Philippines and grew up in San Antonio, TX. He graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1965 and entered the US Army in 1966 with a tour in Vietnam assigned to the 4th Infantry (Ivy) Division. He served the military for twenty years, then worked for the US Postal Service and retired in 2007. Thereafter, he proudly served as a BRAG volunteer for SAMMC. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Luz Jugo Dapilmoto, son and daughter-in-law Eric and Teresa, daughter Michele, grandchildren JonJon, Jacob, and Jiah, five sisters, one brother, and other numerous family members. Obituary: Edward Lanier Foster, 76, of Sun City, Texas, died 23, 2010 from a short three month battle with cancer. He was born in Griffin, Georgia to Alvin Harris Foster, Sr. and Ernestine Norris Foster. Growing up in Barnesville, Georgia, Lanier and his two brothers were graduates of Gordon Military . 32 years of combined military service with the U.S. Army, Lanier retired as a Colonel. His military education includes 55, 11th Airborne School, Ft. Campbell, Kentucky; 56, O.C.S., Ft. Benning, Georgia; 68, Advanced Infantry Course, Ft. Benning, Georgia; 72, 82nd Jumpmaster Course, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; 74, Command and General Staff , Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas; and 78, U.S. Army War , Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. Military awards include Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal. His state awards include the Texas Faithful Service Medal, 3rd Award, the Texas Medal of Merit, and the Texas Outstanding Service Medal. Colonel Fosters last military assignment was the Office of Deputy Chief of Staff, Logistics, at the Pentagon. Perhaps one of the proudest days of Colonel Fosters military career came on 15 1973 when he made his 65th airborne jump at Blackwell Drop Zone, Camp Swift, Texas which qualified him for the Master Parachutists Badge. A graduate of The University of Texas, Lanier later went on to become a C.P.A. For many years he also was a Realtor in Austin, Texas. He had a special affinity for teaching, whether it be map reading to Officer Candidate classes, tax courses for the Austin Board of Realtors, computer classes at Austin Community , or coaching his childrens soccer and basketball teams. Lanier was a member of Santa Rosa Catholic Church in Andice, Texas and honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus. He served many years in Austin on the Association of the Knights of Columbus Council #1017 as well as on the board of the of the Holy Infancy (Marywood). Lanier and Claire were among the founding members of St. John Neuman in West Lake Hills. In 1974 Lanier was honored by the City of West Lake Hills for his service as Treasurer. Additionally, he was a former Director and Life Member of the National Guard Association of Texas. Lanier is survived by his wife of 49 years, Claire Guarino Foster; children, Matthew N. Foster, Dr. en Foster, Suzanne V. Tobleman and husband Dr. Ross Tobleman; grandchildren, Kendall and Collin Foster, Abigail and William Tobleman. He is also survived by his brother, Norris Foster and wife Kathryn of Pine Mountain, Georgia and numerous cousins and extended family in Georgia. Lanier is predeceased by his stepmother, Frances Stallings Foster and younger brother, Alvin Harris Foster, Jr. Although Laniers battle with cancer was brief, his eleven year recovery from a massive hemorrhagic stroke was a daily inspiration of his determination and character to all who knew and loved him. Obituary: CSM Jackson R. (Jack) Bowman, U.S. Army retired, died 19, 2013. He was born 3, 1927, in Marfa, Texas, son of James Edward and Odalia Littleton Bowman, and grew up in Alpine, Texas. Jack served two tours in Korea, and one tour in Vietnam. Other assignments included Senior Infantry Instructor, ROTC at Rice University and LSU. During this time he also served as Notification Officer to families who had lost a loved one in Vietnam. Jack is a member of the First Baptist Church of San Antonio, served as an active deacon for many years, and taught school for 17 years. He was also a member of Chosen People Ministries, Sheriffs Assoc. of Texas, life member of Texas State Rifle Assoc., National Rifle Assoc., and Second Amendment Foundation. Late in his life when asked his proudest accomplishment, without hesitation he replied, Being asked to be a deacon at First Baptist Church. Jack was a staunch believer in the Holy Bible, the American Way of Life, The Constitution of the United States, and the Bill of Rights, especially the Second Amendment. He was concerned that if he right of the people to keep and bear arms is ever infringed, other rights of the people will soon be lost. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; a brother; and first wife, Ingeborg. Jack is survived by his devoted wife of 20 years, Frances Bowman; daughter, Faydale Curtice and husband, Glen, and their son, J.D. Curtice of Corpus Christi, Texas; stepson, Douglas Logsdon and wife, Debra, and their daughter, Journey of Bedford, Texas; several beloved cousins and many friends. Obituary: Colonel Donald Ray Don Bissell, U.S.A.F., died peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of Jan. 19, in his home in San Antonio. He was 94 years old. Born in Binghamton, N.Y., on Oct. 20, 1921, Col. Bissell was the oldest of four children by Ray and Leota Bissell. Spending much of his childhood in New York and Pennsylvania, the family eventually settled in Dresden, Ohio. graduating from high school in Dresden, he enrolled in Ohio State Univ. in 1939, moving on to the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., in 1942. He then graduated from West Point in 1945 as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps, beginning a long and decorated career in our Armed Forces. It was while he was stationed at Barksdale A.F.B. in Shreveport, La., that he met Jimmie Irene Smith in 1948. The two were married in 1949, and remained inseparable until Jimmies death in 2004. A natural-born flier, he piloted several types of bombers for multiple campaigns in Asia and the Pacific in his early career. Upon returning stateside, he headed a family of five while he worked tirelessly to achieve the eventual rank of Colonel in the U.S. Air Force, the title under which he retired in 1975. Col. Bissell is survived by his three children - son Michael and his wife Hilda, of Houston; son Stephen and his wife Nancy, of Austin; and daughter Gail Graham and her husband Mike, of San Antonio - as well as his two remaining sisters, Anita Maurer and Betty Walder, of Dresden and New Franklin, Ohio, respectively. Additionally he leaves behind seven grandchildren: Cate and Bridget Bissell (Michael); Danny and Tom Bissell (Stephen); and Sarah, David and Matthew Graham (Gail). A man of unbreakable personal ethics, razor-sharp wit and unrivaled proactivity, Col. Bissell is remembered for his generous spirit, his tireless work ethic, and his undying devotion to his friends and family. His death brings sorrow and leaves holes in the hearts of many, but his memory lingers in the form of the numerous lives he touched. A graveside memorial service will be held at 1:45 p.m. on , Jan. 29, at the Fort Sam Houston National . Obituary: .to be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians: 5:8 Col. Algin S. Hawkins (Al), U.S. Army Retired, age 82, died , 12, 2012. He was born in Birmingham, AL on 29, 1930 to Paul and Aletha Hawkins. attending the University of Alabama he received his Commission as a 2LT in 1951. He went on to a distinguished 32 year career in the Army that included tours in the Korean Conflict and with the Big Red One in the Vietnam War. Being a Master Army Aviator and Instructor was his true military passion. A commander in the Armys first Chinook Battalion, he beamed with pride as this new helicopter has become a critical asset saving countless lives on the battlefields. He went on to master and fly many other rotary and fixed wing aircraft. As a graduate of Command and General Staff and the Army War , Colonel Hawkins excelled in his career whether in an academic, staff or field tactical environment. He was awarded the Legion of Merit (2OLC), Distinguished Flying Cross (1OLC), Bronze Star Medal with V Device (2OLC) and numerous other medals. In 1982 Col Hawkins retired in the famed Quadrangle at Fort Sam Houston. His love and commitment to family was his badge of honor. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Elaine G. Hawkins; children, Algin Bo S. Hawkins, Jr., and his wife, Marye, Gwen H. Solis and her husband, Tom, T. Randall Hawkins and his wife Amy; grandchildren, Karen, Jonathan, Jenna, Gregory, Jessi, Matthew, Skylar, Andrew, Michael, Amber; great-grandson, Brogan. Obituary: Col. Walter W. Hogrefe, U.S. Army, Ret., age 89, passed away , 6, 2008 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on 6, 1919, in Arlington, Virginia, to William and Alice Hogrefe. He was a graduate of West Point, the class of 1943, graduating early due to WW II. His class was forever known as the Half Baked class. He continued his military career for the next 33 years. military retirement, he and his beloved wife, Joan, moved to Orange Park, Florida. Walt was an engineer for the city of Jacksonville for the next 30 years. He was an active officer of Jacksonville Sail and Power Squadron and held many positions during his tenure. In 2004 Walt truly retired. He and Joan moved to San Antonio. There he enjoyed poker and socializing with new friends at Independence Village. Walt loved electronics, gadgets and every aspect of boating. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Joan. He is survived by his sons, Bill Hogrefe and wife Deborah of Colorado, Ken Hogrefe and wife Teresa of Houston, Texas, and Scott Hogrefe and wife Connie of Florida; his daughters, Barbara Holy and husband Ladya of Oregon, Sue Jackson and husband Ben of Georgia, Kelly Giesbrecht and husband Martin of Kentucky; 12 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren; his brother, Art Hogrefe; and sister, Alice Sherwood.
