Obituary: MSgt. Valentine Antonio Bito, USAF Ret., 69, died , 18, 2007, in San Antonio, Texas. Born of American Indian and Filipino descent on 11, 1938 in Soboba, California, he grew up in and around Vista, California. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1954 followed by his enlistment in the U.S. Air Force in 1957. His duty stations included Goose Bay, Labrador; Takhli, Thailand; Upper Heyford RAF, England; Zweibrucken AB, Germany as well as several stateside bases coast to coast. He was assigned to Laughlin AFB, Del Rio, Texas in 1973 up until he retired after 22 years of service in the Air Force in 1978. his retirement he continued to work at Laughlin AFB in the Civil Service for several years. He was an active Square-dance member while in Europe and in Texas. He also was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church and a lifetime member of the VFW. living in Del Rio for 29 years he moved to Helotes, Texas in 2002 where he enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed taking trips and visiting with relatives until his health began to fail him. Mr. Bito was preceded in death by his brother Michael Bito and sister Connie Amago. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara of 48 years; son Anthony and his wife Patsy; and daughter Rebecca Hardage, all of Helotes; brothers Ozzie Bito and Benny Bito of Warner Springs, California; sister Lucy Lipnick of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren Warren and Deidre Bito, Justin Hardage and wife Missy of Minnesota, Gina Bito Benavides and husband George, and Holley Bito Guerrero and husband Celso; great-grandchildren Amberlea Paget Benavides, and Jordan Mikal and Lauren Abigail Guerrero; as well as numerous nephews and nieces in California, Oklahoma, and Florida; and many close friends across the country. Obituary: Bobby Wagoner, age 76, passed away on May 23, 2008 at his home in Bulverde, Texas. Born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Bobby was the oldest son of Odell and Sallie Martin Wagoner. Bobby joined the U. S. Air Force in 1951 and retired in 1971. his retirement, Bobby enjoyed a career as a Deputy U.S. Marshal in San Antonio, Texas. He continued his work in Law Enforcement until after his retirement from the U. S. Marshals Service when his illness forced him to slow down. His real joy in life has been to watch his grandchildren grow, begin their careers, start their respective families and to live long enough to see and love two great grandchildren. Bobby was a loyal member of the Lonnie Irvin Daylight Lodge, San Antonio Scottish Rite and the Alzafar Shrine in San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jimmy Wagoner and his son Robert E. Wagoner. Obituary: David Lee McGinnis, Sr., MSGT Ret., U.S. Air Force, loving and devoted son, brother, husband, father, Popo and friend, joined the Lord on 1, 2006. He was born in Alice, TX on 23, 1949. His parents were Lora Mae and Lee McGinnis. He graduated from William Adams High School in 1968 and then joined the United States Air Force and faithfully served his country for 20 years. MSGT McGinnis served as a Crew Chief on C-130Âs at Dyess A.F.B. and also proudly worked in the 89th FMS on Air Force One at Andrews A.F.B. He retired as a Master Sergeant and returned to Texas. There he began a second career at Newell Recycling of San Antonio, where he worked for another 15 years and was a loyal and respected employee and friend. MSGT. McGinnis was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He was a tried and true fan of all Texas sports, especially those ÂCowboysÂ. All who knew him will miss and remember this special man. Mary Ruth ÂAunt Snookie is survived by a niece, Shirley Gay Plumley; one great nephew, Robert of Mountain , Arkansas and a nephew, Michael, serving in the U.S. Navy; cousin, Norma Fields, a resident of San Antonio, Texas. Mary Ruth was a distinguished veteran with 32 years of military service, serving in the Asiatic Pacific, France, Germany and Hawaii in various nursing assignments as general duty, Supervisor and finally in 1951, as an Army Nurse. In 1975, she retired at Wm. Beaumont Army Medical , El Paso, Texas. She was awarded the American Campaign medal; WWII Victory medal, Bronze Star; Armed Forces Reserve medal; Army Commendation medal; National Defense Service medal; 1 Oakleaf Cluster; Armed Forces Reserve medal with 10 year Dev; and Meritorious Service medal. Mary Ruth always said she felt like a ÂMillionaire because she had so many ÂGood friends. We, too, were blessed with her friendship. She was blessed with the love of God and the pleasure of sharing her time, love, hobbies, birthday celebrations with friends and family. ÂMary Sunshine as she was called by her WomenÂs Overseas Service League members, spent years sending greetings to members and friends for birthdays or illnesses. She was a member of the Army Nurse Corps Association and the American Legion Post 10. She was a loyal volunteer at the AMED Museum Foundation and contributed to many organizations with her time and money. We will all miss her friendship and cheerful love for life. |

Obituary: Major Arthur Joseph Guertin, Sr., USAF Ret, died on 8, 2003, following a series of hospitalizations for serious illnesses, through , 2003. Major Guertin was born 27, 1920 in Putnam, CT. He was educated at Fitchburg State TeacherÂs , University of Maryland, Trinity University and the Industrial of the Armed Forces. Art, as he was known, enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1940 and was stationed at Bellows Field, Hawaii during the attack upon Pearl Harbor. During his military service, he participated in the occupation of Japan, Philippines and Germany. He graduated from OCS in Miami, FL and received his Commission in 1943. His stateside tours included assignments at; Hammer Field, Fresno, CA; Vint Hill Famrs, Warrenton, VA; Arlington Hall Station, Arlington, VA and Kelly AFB, San Antonio, TX. Art retired from active duty in 1961. He retired again in 1972 from the Defense Intelligence Agency. During his service on active duty he was awarded the following medals: Good Conduct Medal, Army, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal with service star, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal AF Germany, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Philippine Liberation Medal and the Philippine Independence Medal. Following his retirement the Guertins made their home in Northern Virginia until moving to Air Force Village II, in San Antonio, TX in 1999. He and his wife, Henrietta ÂRieÂ, recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his wife and their three children; Arthur J. Guertin, Jr. of Chesapeake, VA, Thomas L. Obituary: Major William F. Leeper, USAF, Ret., age 86, went to be with the Lord on 27, 2006. He was born 20, 1920, in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, to Joseph Edwin and Gratice Dold Leeper. He was known as Bill or ÂWild Bill from his early flying days to his family and friends. Bill served his country faithfully and with honor, beginning in 1941, when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in Ft. Des Moines, Iowa as an aviation cadet for pilot training. Upon receiving his rating as a pilot and a commission as a 2nd LT he served throughout the United States, as well as overseas in Japan and Portugal. His Air Force career included: test pilot for A26, B17, B25 and B26, flying in air shows, TECH Intelligence and the Diplomatic Corp. He was the Assistant Air Attaché to the U.S. Embassy in Lisbon, Portugal from 1955-1959. He was awarded the American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, American Defense Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and the Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters. He retired after 22 years to San Antonio and began a second career as a real estate broker. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Wilma Patton and brother, Denzel Leeper. Having recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on 22nd, Bill is survived by his loving wife, Frances R. Leeper; daughter, Rita Sholund; son, William F. Leeper, II all of San Antonio; daughter, Pamela Swint and husband, Rick of Houston; brother, James Leeper of Danville, IA; grandchildren, Robert Sholund and wife, Aimee, Jennifer Sholund, Nicole, William III, Jonathan and Kelsey Leeper; great-grandchildren, Travis, Courtney and Morgan Sholund. |

Obituary: Major Irene ÂTex KnolleUS Army, Ret. died peacefully at Seton Medical center in Austin, Texas on 30, 2002 at the age of 79. Born 3, 1923 in Washington , Texas, to Dr. Ellwood William and Elsie Grebe Knolle, Irene spent her childhood in the Giddings and Brenham communities where her grandfather also practiced medicine and pharmacology. She later graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in journalism. On 16, 1944, Irene entered the U.S. Army as a second Lieutenant. In her 20-year military career, she earned the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal. Irene served in the European Theatre of Operations ETO during WWII and was assistant to General Mark Clark in Japan after WWII ended. In 1964, Irene retired from active military service to the Austin Hill Country, where she enjoyed serving as a member of the local volunteer fire company. Obituary: Major Gary Eugene Madden USA Ret., a devoted family man joined our heavenly Father on 30, 2011 after a courageous battle with a rare cancer, with his loving wife Miriam of 26 years by his side. His parents were Eugenie Madden and the late CWO-3 Louis R. Madden of San Antonio. He was born on 28, 1948 at Ft. Hustus, Virginia. He graduated from Sam Houston High in 1967. During his senior year he was a member of the junior ROTC and obtained a rank of a Brigade Commander and Cadet Colonel. He pursued his military involvement throughout college at Texas A&M and was promoted all the way to Commander before graduating in May of 1971. He later received two MasterÂs Degrees from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army as a Medical Service Corps Officer and retired after 20 years as a Master Aviator. He was Special Forces, Airborne, and Air Assault qualified with an Expert Field Medical Badge. Throughout his career, he served in many different assignments, including a tour in Saudi Arabia. Among his awards he received 5 Meritorious Service medals and 3 Army Commendation medals. his military career he began teaching junior high Computer Literacy courses and Life Science. wards, he began teaching high school computer courses. He has taught computer science I & II, Desktop Publishing, Web Mastering, and Digital Graphic and Animation. He ended his teaching career 2008 at Lackland ISD due to a decline in his health to spend more time with his family. He received the Kens 5 Excel Award as Teacher of the Year for 2005-2006. As a member of St. MatthewÂs Catholic Church, he was a member of the ACTS team, the Knights of Columbus, an Assistant Scout Master for the Boy Scouts Troop 271, and a highly dedicated participant of numerous church and community activities. He will truly be missed by his friends and loved ones especially his wife and kids. He is survived by his wife Miriam, his mother Eugenie; his son 1LT John Madden, currently serving in Iraq; his daughter Cadet Crystal Madden, graduating senior of West Point; his daughter Jennifer Roquemore, his son Brian Madden, his son PO2 Michael Madden, his brother LTC Don Madden USAR Ret. and his wife Joyce, and his sister Monica Wallace. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Lauren Roquemore and McKinlee Madden, and numerous nieces and nephews who mourn his loss. He is preceded in death by his father, CWO-3 Louis R. He was born in Fremont, Nebraska on 23, 1935 to the late Joseph F. and LaVerle Herman Morehouse. He attended Fremont public schools: graduated Fremont High School in 1953. He earned his B.S. B.A. from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Nebraska, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta social fraternity, in 1957: and received his Juris Doctor Degree from Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska in 1960. admission to the Nebraska Bar, he was commissioned a Lieutenant in the United States Air force. He served on active duty as an Air Force judge advocate for the next thirty-three years, retiring as The Judge Advocate General, USAF in 1993. Obituary: Maj. Israel Valdez, Sr. USAF Ret., age 87, passed away on May 8, 2008 in San Antonio, Texas. He was a veteran of WWII and served actively during the Korean conflict. Before WWII, he was in the Civilian Conservation Corps where he worked to build many national parks in New Mexico. He graduated from Texas A&I University in Kingsville, TX, received his MBA from the University of New Mexico and was also a graduate of the Washington Bible . He retired from the Air Force in 1967 and was appointed to the Small Business Administration by President Nixon. He continued to work for the Federal Government until 1986 when he retired from the Department of Transportation. While in the DC area he was a lay pastor and participated in starting the first Hispanic Prayer Breakfast which met in the US Capitol Bldg. He and his wife, Alicia moved to San Antonio in 1989 where he became a Master Gardener and helped plant hundreds of trees with at risk teens. He also volunteered to teach immigrants English and worked as a volunteer at the Wellness Clinic at Lackland AFB. He was a member of VFW Post 9186. Mr. Valdez is to be honored posthumously as an ordained minister. He is survived by his wife, Alicia Valdez of San Antonio, TX; his son Israel Valdez, Jr. and wife Trudy Frederick Valdez of Port Orchard, WA; son David Valdez and wife Sarah Jane Valdez of Annapolis, MD; grandson, Seth Frederick Valdez of Seattle, WA; granddaughter, Reagan Borden Johnson of Port Orchard, WA; great granddaughters, Rebecca and Emma Johnson and great grandson, Elijah Johnson of Port Orchard, WA; brothers, Guadalupe Valdez, Jr of Corpus Christi, TX and Nicholas Valdez of Kingsville, TX; and many nieces and nephews. Obituary: Maj. James H. Eaton, Jr., USAF Ret., died on May 20, 2008 in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1940 and Texas A&M in 1945. James proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. James and his bride Lillie Mae were married for 59 years. Together they traveled and raised their five children in Frankfurt, Germany and San Antonio. James retired from the Air Force at Kelly Air Force Base. He later retired from Civil Service. James was very involved in community affairs. He enjoyed skeet shooting and woodworking. He is survived by his wife, Lillie; children, Margaret C. Lawrence, James and Kathy Eaton, Robert and Mary Eaton, Janice and David Nava, and Janette and Tim Tant; thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. |

A member of St. AndrewÂs Episcopal Church in Seguin, he was a graduate of Sicily Island High School in Sicilly Island, LA. attending North East Junior in Monroe, LA, he graduated from Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge in 1951 with a degree in Forestry. He then went on to a distinguished career in the military, retiring from the U.S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rastus and Annie Guyton Thurman; and 8 siblings, Ray, Dinah Schulz, Dinky, Billie, Freida Bonner, Sam, Boots and Cecil. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jo Bess Skaggs Thurman of Conroe; a daughter, Holly Lynne Thurman Brim and husband Lester of Locust Grove, VA; a brother, F. G. Obituary: Therion Ted Dexter Tedder, age 82, passed away , 3, 2011 in San Antonio, Texas. He was also affectionately known as ÂPapa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ted was born on 28, 1928, in Perry, Florida. high school, he graduated from Florida State University. He received his Masters of Business Administration from the Air Force Institute of Technology. He proudly served in the armed forces for a combined 21 years, retiring in 1969 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During his military career, he pioneered the building of the first mobile computer field operation used by the Air Force. It was initially used in the Vietnam War. Upon Retirement from the Military, he joined USAA as Vice President of Computer Services. He retired in 1979, and soon after he became an entrepreneur. He owned and operated numerous business ventures including full service car washes and other companies in the areas of computer leasing, home building, and life insurance. Although he was a very active person in his professional life, his first love was serving our Lord Jesus Christ, having accepted Christ as his Personal Savior. His love for Christ was demonstrated in his passion for building and planting new churches. During his lifetime, he was personally involved in starting several new churches, including Thousand Oaks Baptist Church in San Antonio. He especially loved to teach School and was a tireless worker in leading people to accept Christ into their lives. He was most recently a member of Castle Hills First Baptist Church. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar James Tedder and Sella Grubbs Tedder; his sister Eleanor Tedder Bowman and husband David, and his brother Oliver Thomas Tedder, who passed away only a few hours before Ted. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Billie; daughters, Terrie Butrum and her husband, Phil; Debbie Freeman and her husband, Ken; Marti Underwood and her husband, Ron, all of San Antonio, Texas. In addition, he is survived by 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family also wants to give special thanks to his recent giver, Michelle Golob, along with the staff at Colonial Gardens AlzheimerÂs facility. Obituary: LTC, John William ÂBill LaValley, USA, Ret., age 74, passed away 1, 2006, after a two year fight with cancer. Bill was born 21, 1932, in Glen Falls, New York, to the late Curtis and Marion Godfrey LaValley. In 1950, he graduated from St. MaryÂs Academy in Glens Falls. Bill then entered Ithaca on a football scholarship. He joined the Naval Reserve and was activated in 1951, during the Korean conflict. Upon release from the service he returned to Ithaca under the G.I. Bill and graduated in 1957, earning his B.S. degree. Bill went on to earn his first MasterÂs degree from New York University in 1959. He joined the US Army as a physical therapist in of that year. LTC LaValleyÂs military career led him into the Medical Service Corp. He served in Vietnam from 1969-70. Bill earned his M.B.A. at the University of Arizona in Tucson in 1972. Bill served in a variety of positions while in the US Army and was Chief of the Manpower Survey Team from 1973-78. Bill retired from active duty in 1980. He also earned his teaching certificate from SW Texas State in San Marcos. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his infant son, Curtis; and younger brother, Paul A. LaValley. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Anne Manning LaValley; his three sons, J. William LaValley and wife, Margaret of Austin, TX, Eugene LaValley and wife, Cheryl of Athens, GA, Paul LaValley and wife, Norma of Stockton, CA; and brother, Brian Sheldon and wife, Sally of Queensbury, NY; and his grandchildren, John, Christopher, Fredrick, Gregory, Colin and Logan. Bill loved to visit his grandchildren and take annual trips to see his brothers in the northeast and to observe the  urning of the leaves each autumn. Obituary: Lieutenant Colonel Heywood Pete Pierce, USAF, Retired age 88, died at Air Force Village on , 18, 2008. Colonel Pierce was born in Onslow , near Wilmington, North Carolina on 2, 1919. attending school there, he attended Florida Jacksonville Junior and the University of Miami, enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1942. He was commissioned a year later and spent the early part of his military career in training, education and administration. During a large part of his remaining career, he was assigned to a highly classified organization at Headquarters USAF, but entirely separate from it, with its own command structure comprised of many, mostly small, world-wide units. This required his travel throughout the western world and the Far East. In 1966, he was assigned as Commander of the Middle East Postal and Courier Region with headquarters in Tehran, Iran. This encompassed further travel from India to east Africa. He acquired the usual accolades and awards which culiminated with the presentation of the Legion of Merit at his retirement ceremony. which he worked for the State of Texas Comptroller for ten years. In 1971, he retired from the Pentagon to Lake McQueeney, Texas, where he and his wife, Vera, built their home and lived until it was sold in 1998. She succumbed to Alzheimers disease and in 2000, Vera preceded him in death. He is survived by daughters: Lynn Pierce Chapman and her husband, Larry, of Georgia and Patsy Pierce Trybus of Maryland; grandchildren: Kim Hindmon, Kirk Searl, Heather Herrin, Holli Bice, and Heidi Chapman; five great grandchildren and his sister, Mrs. Madlon Glover of Florida; as well as his dutiful companion, Elizabeth Gillaspie of San Antonio. Obituary: Lieutenant Colonel Kevin Thomas Ryan Jr., USAF Ret. died May 11, 2004 at the age of 73. He was born 23, 1930 in Baltimore, MD to Kevin Sr. and Evelyn Ryan, who preceded him in death. Kevin graduated from Greenbelt High School in Maryland in 1948. receiving his BachelorÂs degree from the University of Maryland, he began his military career when he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Air Force in 1954. He later earned a MasterÂs degree from East Carolina University in Political Science. In 1955, he married his wife of 49 years, Welta Wilks, a medical technologist, and completed navigation school in Texas. While stationed at England AFB in Louisiana, he served as a navigator on a variety of multi-engine transport planes for the Military Air Transport Service MATS, including C- 119Âs and C-124Âs. In 1957, he realized his long time dream of becoming a pilot by completing basic and advanced flight school and special training in large transport aircraft at several locations in Texas. From 1958 to 1977, as a Pilot, Command Pilot, and later as Air Operations Officer, he served in a variety of locations in the U.S. and overseas, including Palm Beach, FL; Dover, DE where his daughter Colleen was born in 1959, Japan, Greenville NC, Taiwan, Laos, Vietnam and Hawaii. During this period, he flew airlift missions and coordinated support operations in locations on all seven continents and throughout the world. For 18 months, he commanded C-130 flights on combat and combat support missions in Laos, Vietnam and throughout Southeast Asia, often in high-risk situations, including paratroop drops and night resupply missions under enemy fire. In addition to his skills as a pilot, the Air Force valued him as a gifted military administrator and instructor. In this capacity, he held a series of progressively responsible posts in his career, ranging from Squadron Adjutant, to Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies in the ROTC Program at East Carolina University in NC, to Senior Plans and Programs Officer. In 1977, after 24 years of dedicated service to the Air Force and to his country, he retired from his final assignment as Wing Chief, Operations/Plans Division of the 15th Air Base Wing Group at Hickam AFB, Hawaii. Among his many military awards are the Air Medal with Oak Leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf clusters. his retirement from the Air Force, he and his family relocated to Bulverde in the San Antonio area where he joined Datapoint later the Intellogic Trace Corporation as their Director of Administrative and Office Services. In 1985, he established the firm of Engrave-Tech, a successful specialty service computer engraving company, which he owned and operated until its sale in 2003. He was also active in community affairs and charitable activities for many years, in particular with the Bulverde Lions Club. Kevin was a loving husband, a devoted father, an honorable officer in the service of his country, a respected businessman, a good neighbor and responsible citizen of his community, and a dear friend to all who knew him well. He will be sorely missed by his family and his many friends. He is survived by his wife, Welta; his daughter, Colleen; and his two brothers, Patrick and Timothy. He graduated from Central Catholic High School, attended New Mexico Military Academy, and graduated from Norwich University. LTC Snell served his country proudly in the U. S. Army for 26 years, and voluntarily served two tours of duty in Vietnam, as well as assignments in Europe, South Korea, and various locations throughout the United States. Obituary: LTC Gerald U. Schoenert, USAF Ret., age 86, entered into eternal rest on , 11, 2003. Gerald was born 19, 1916, in San Antonio, Texas. Gerald graduated from Jefferson High School in 1933 and attended the University of Texas in Austin. When World War II began he joined the Army Air Corps. serving in World War II, he completed his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He organized and was the first commander of the 96th Maintenance Squadron, US Air Force Reserves, Kelly AFB. He designed the lettering for all US Air Force aircraft and that lettering is still in use today. Among the many accomplishments during his 32-year Civil Service career, he participated in top secret military projects. He retired from Kelly AFB in 1972. His interest in politics led him to serve as Republican Precinct Chairman. Because of his love for the City of Shavano Park, he served as Building Inspector for many years and was elected to the City Council. His grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Westfall; his step-son, Doug Carr; and his sister, Eileen Mayer. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Betty; children, David and Terry Schoenert, Richard and Tammy Schoenert, Robert and Mary Schoenert, Mary Gail and Rick Flake, Dawn and Allen Smith, Sandy and Randy Markert of Utah; sixteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Estelle Payne; brother, Victor Schoenert of San Antonio; a host of nieces and nephews and friends. |

Obituary: LTC Robert G. Sikora, USA, Ret, surrounded by his loving family, passed away , 7, 2007, at the age of 58. He was born 27, 1949, in Hammond, IN, to Sylvester and Marie Sikora. Robert was a resident of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX and member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Boerne, TX. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Rho Chi, Phi Kappa Phi and the Order of Military Medical Merit Honor Societies. He was on the advisory councils for the pharmacy schools at Purdue University and at the University of Texas. He was also a member of the Presidents Council at Purdue University. Robert was a 1967 graduate of Bishop Noll High School, Hammond, IN. He earned a B.S. in Pharmacy from Purdue University in 1972, and then went on to earn his MasterÂs Degree from the University of Georgia in 1980. During RobertÂs military career he received numerous awards including The Legion of Merit throughout his 21 years of dedicated service. He was listed in WhoÂs Who in American from 1994 to 1998, received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Purdue UniversityÂs School of Pharmacy in 2003, and was inducted into the Purdue University ROTC Hall of Fame in 2006. Robert retired from Pfizer, Inc. as Vice President of the Clinical Education Consultant Division in 2005. He was preceded in death by his father, Sylvester. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Nancy; sons, Robert A., Daniel J. and wife, Christi; mother, Marie Sikora; sisters, Sue Cooper and husband, Dion, Jackie Shinault and husband, Don, Margaret Sikora-Black and husband, Don; brothers, Nick Sikora and wife, Shelly, Scott Cunningham and wife, Sheri Kessler; father-in-law, Harold Highsmith; and many other relatives and friends. Obituary: LTC Joseph W. Hely, USA Ret., 84, died on , May 22, 2010, at his home in San Antonio. He was born 21, 1926, in St. Louis, MO, to John Power Hely III and Laura Williams Hely, although his mothers family had lived in Texas before, during, and after the Republic. LTC Hely entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and fought in Germany as an Infantry lieutenant in the 90th Division, Pattons Third Army, earning the Combat Infantry Badge. He became a pioneer in Army Aviation. In the Korean conflict, he was one of the first four air ambulance pilots ever deployed in wartime; he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star for valor and the Purple Heart. He finished his warfighting with a tour in the Vietnam War. He then served a full career with McDonald Douglas Corporation, mostly with the Harpoon cruise missile system. He was preceded in death by his parents and his four siblings: John Power Hely IV, Mary Jane Hely Landolt, Robert E. Hely, and Richard F. Hely. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Alice Engler Hely; daughter Marilyn Hely Tomasello and her husband Jim Tomasello; son Joe Hely and wife Cornelia Nell Herff Hely and her sons Robert and Chase Turnbull, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
