He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1950 after graduating high school, served seven years as enlisted and achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant. He attended OCS where he received his Officers Commission in 1957. Col.Dillon retired in 1978 after serving for 28 years. He was an avid Ham Radio Operator and contacted every country in the world. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Col. Dillon is preceded in death by his brother, Julian Dillon and sister, Lureline Dixon. He is survived by his wife, Anna L. Obituary: Lt. Col. William Dale Carson, Jr., USAF Ret., age 70, passed away on , 24, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born 9, 1940 in Kansas City, MO to William and Ella Carson. He was raised in Brunswick, MO and received a BS degree at Missouri Valley where he was an avid athlete excelling in basketball. He taught math and coached basketball and track before being commissioned in the Air Force. While in the Air Force, he received his MBA from the University of Wyoming. He was a missile launch commander for the Minuteman missiles in the 70Âs. While on a NATO assignment in Turkey, he served as the executive assistant to the Turkish General. He met his wife of 42 years when he was stationed at Randolph and she enjoyed seeing the world with him. He was an Eagle Scout, a member of the San Antonio Toastmasters, and an avid sports fan for the Kansas City Chiefs. He kept fit with his jogging and basketball. Dale was a patriot and devoted family man. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Carson; daughter, Amy Carson; sons, Chuck Carson and Grant Carson; grandchildren, Chris Carson and Nick Carson; sisters, Nancy Binkley and husband Bill, Laurie Carson, Barbara Bierman and husband Dennis, Betty McAdams and husband Mark; and brother, Stuart Carson and wife Cindee. Obituary: Albin J. Rzeszotarski died 25, 2007. He was 82. Mr. Rzeszotarski was a graduate of Harvard BA, 1948 and Union MS Organic Chemistry, 1951. He began his career in industry by developing organic resin polymers, specializing in adhesives. In 1956, Mr. Rzeszotarski, together with ten additional scientists, was selected by the National Academy of Sciences to evaluate the military adhesive programs of the Department of Defense and to suggest any changes in these efforts. Mr. Rzeszotarski spent 12 years in the military and space programs, both at Cape Canaveral and Houston. At Cape Canaveral, he managed analytical test laboratories for the Mace, Matador, Titan I and Titan II military vehicles and performed quality and reliability studies on the Mercury and Gemini spacecraft as well as on the Saturn I and Saturn V boosters. He was Manager, Quality Process Engineering, heading a group of consultants in that field for NASA on the Apollo program. Mr. Rzeszotarski received 8 achievement awards from NASA, including the Silver Snoopy, presented by Neil Armstrong after the successful Apollo 11 moon landing. The citation read, in part, ... your contribution was an essential factor in the success of Apollo 11. Mr. Rzeszotarski was a member of the Task Group that planned the Alaska Pipeline. The Group established the material and personnel resources required for the oil gathering lines, the pumping stations, the storage facilities at Valdeze, in Alaska as well as for the construction of the 800-mile pipeline. He prepared equipment inspection requirements, quality training programs and the overall Quality System for the pipeline. Mr. Rzeszotarski was responsible for approving suppliers for nuclear reactor power products and for tests required to verify the quality of these products. He was a Senior Member of the American Society for Quality Control ASQC and, in 1981, served as the Chairman of the Santa Clara Valley Section. He presented papers to the national ASQC conference as well as to the quality organization in Japan. In 1942, Mr. Rzeszotarski enlisted in the Army Air Corps and flew as a bombardier in B-17s during World War II. In 1944, his plane was shot down over Budapest, Hungary and he was sent to the Prisoner-of-War camp at Stalug Luft III, in Poland. This camp was the site of the mass escape by Allied airmen depicted in the movie, The Great Escape, starring Steve McQueen. In 1945, he was sent to Stalug VIIA, in Moosburg, Germany, near Dachau. He was liberated by General Patton during the final two weeks of the war. Mr. Rzeszotarski remained in the US Air Force Reserve and retired in 1972 as a Lieutenant Colonel. Colonel Rzeszotarskis decorations include the Air Medal and Purple Heart as well as the recently awarded Prisoner-of-War medal. He was a private pilot and a member of the American Ex-POW Society and Purple Heart Society. Colonel Rzeszotarski will be buried with full military honors at Fort Sam Houston National in San Antonio, Texas. He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Margaret Rzeszotarski; his daughter, Donna Martel; his son-in-law, Michael Martel; his grandson, Tyler Martel; his brother, Richard Rzeszotarski; nephews Robert and Richard Rzeszotarski; and a cousin, Alice Tenerowicz. Obituary: Lt. Col. Charles Rexford Rex Daye, USAF Ret., 73, passed away on , 21, 2008, in San Antonio. He was born in Appomattox, VA, on 13, 1934, to Andrew and Carrie Daye. Upon his graduation from high school he enlisted in the Army, where he became a Paratrooper. He always laughed; the first plane he ever sat in, he jumped out of and flew five times before ever landing in the same plane he took off in. leaving the Army with the rank of Sergeant, he attended Hampton Sydney on the G.I. Bill. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, graduating in 1963. He then entered the Air Force, where his 23-year career earning the rank of Lt. Colonel along with many distinguished awards and honors, finally retiring in 1986. When you saw Rex, you saw his guitar. No Karaoke machine was safe –wherever there was a microphone, he was singing! Obituary: Jack H. Grizzard, Lt. Col., U.S. Army ret., died 10, 2003, after a brief illness. Col. Grizzard was born in Ft. Worth, Texas on 11, 1920 and grew up in Waco, Texas. He graduated from Trinity University in 1955. He entered the service in 1942, retiring in 1966. During his military career, he commanded every type of medical department unit, including a medical battalion, and received numerous awards and citations, including the Bronze Star for his service in the Korean Conflict. his retirement, he continued to serve his country as a civilian employee, teaching medical field subjects, and was chief of the the correspondence course branch at the Academy of Sciences at Fort Sam Houston from 1970 until his retirement from Civil Service in 1983. Obituary: Lt. Col. Rodney Houck USAF Ret. 90, passed away 29, 2010 in San Antonio, Texas. Born 19, 1919 in Reading, Pennsylvania, he is a son of the late Ralph Houck and the late Ester Rambo Houck. Rodney is preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth and Richard Houck. graduating from Reading High School, he attended the Wharton School of Business and later the University of Maryland where he received the degree of Bachelor of Science. In of 1941 he was drafted into the United Sates Army. By 1943, as a Master Sergeant, he entered Officer Candidate School and received his commission. He became an officer in the United States Air Force when it was formed as a separate branch of the military. During his distinguished 35 year military career, he served both at home and abroad including Newfoundland, Turkey and Germany. With expertise in Training and Personnel Management, he received the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster OLC, the Air Force Commendation Medal with two OLCs and the Joint Services Commendation Medal. Upon his retirement from the USAF in 1976, Rodney became a Texan and began a second 20 year long career as an agent/broker for Century 21 Real Estate. He was a member of the San Antonio Board of Realtors, Kiwanis and wrote a news letter for his Owners Association. Retirement gave him an opportunity to spend more time with his extended family and contribute to the community. He was an active gardener, wood worker and Internet surfer. His interest in world events led him to spend many enjoyable hours on the Internet. Rodney will be greatly missed by all those who knew him for his unfailing sense of humor and personal integrity. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret Peggy Aldridge Houck; children, James Rodney Houck and wife Anne Pscheid, Janet Houck Sims; three grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two cousins; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Obituary: Lieutenant Colonel Kenneth A. Dekat, USAF Ret., age 57, of San Antonio, passed away on , 6, 2003. Col Dekat was born 8, 1945 in Sabetha Kansas to Emmanuel and Ann Dekat. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1967 and was a distinguished AFROTC graduate with a B.S. in History and Political Science. In 1970, he received his Juris Doctor from the Saint Louis University School of Law. That same year, he was ordered to active duty as a captain in the Judge Advocate GeneralÂs Department. Over his 28 years of service, he served at George AFB, CA; Howard AFB, Canal Zone, Republic of Panama, Scott AFB, IL; Ellsworth AFB, SD; the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, Headquarters Air Force Manpower and Personnel , Randolph AFB, TX, and the General Law Division, Office of the Judge Advocate General, Washington DC; then returning and retiring from the Air Force Military Personnel as chief, military personnel law. His decorations include the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, and the National Defense Service Ribbon. Obituary: Lt. Col. Norman C. Cox, USAF Ret. was born 19, 1921 at Shady Ranger Station, near Mena, Arkansas Â- third son of a Forest Ranger. The family moved to Louisiana in 1937 and Norman graduated high school in Leesville, LA. He attended Northwestern State until 1942, when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps at Barksdale AFB. He was commissioned in 1944 at Selman Field and was assigned to the 91st Bomb GP as a Navigator on a BÂ-17 crew in England. WWII, he was assigned to Chanute Field, IL to Weather Officer School. While at Chanute he was married to Jacqueline Nell Myers, of Shreveport, LA on 4, 1946. Upon graduation from Weather Officer School he was assigned to Air Weather Service, where he served until retirement in 1964. These assignments included duty as Weather Instructor at AOB School at Mather AFB, Weather Reconnaissance Representative on the Pacific Typhoon Board, Aerial Weather Recon Officer with 54th WRS on Guam, 57th WRS at Hickam AFB, Squadron Weather Officer and Exec 53rd WRS in Bermuda, and finally Recon Liaison Officer to TAC HQ until retirement in 1964. Stateside assignments included Weather Station duty at Barksdale, Randolph, and Palm Beach AF Bases. While at West Palm Beach he completed requirements for a B.S. Degree at Florida Southern under Operation Bootstrap. retirement, Col. Cox enrolled in graduate school at Louisiana Tech University and was employed to establish and serve as Resident Coordinator of a program of education at Barksdale AFB. In this capacity he completed the requirements for his MBA and the coursework for the DBA degrees. five years at Barksdale, he was employed as Assistant Professor of Marketing at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas where he remained for 14 years until his retirement again in 1985. The Coxes moved to Air Force Village I in 1990 and to Village II in 1991. Col. Cox was preceded in death by his parents, Guy Cox and Fannie Head Cox; daughter, Catherine Thompson, sister, Irene Cox Martin and two brothers, Edwin Austin Cox and Reuben Dean Cox. Obituary: Lt. Col. James Jim R. Gamble Jr. Ret. went to be with our Lord and Savior on , May 6, 2011 at the age of 91. He was born on May 12, 1919 in Williamsport, PA. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Fern, his mother and father and two sisters. He is survived by his son Ronald and his wife Linda, daughter Diane and son Michael and his wife Susan Meader; grandchildren, Kristen and husband Greg Rea, Amanda and husband Chuck Keyworth, Seth, Larissa and Audrey Gamble; great-granddaughters, Renae and Sydney Rea; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a navigator on a B-24 Liberator in WWII, shot down, and interned as a POW in Stalag Luft III, Sagan, Poland. He received his BS from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and his MSW from Tulane University in New Orleans. The US Air Force recalled him to active duty in 1951, where he served in various military hospitals around the world until his retirement in 1969. retiring from the military, he began his second career as an Executive Director of the San Antonio Family Services Association. He was an active member of the Directors Staff of the Alzafar Shrine. He served on the board of the 467th BG Heavy and traveled yearly to their annual reunions, the last one being in 2010 in Rackhealth, England. He became inspired to write a book based on his War Time logs Â- written while a POW. His book, Innocents Abroad, was published in of 2010 on the eve of his 91st year. At peace with himself, he closed his book with the words, ÂI am happy with my life and I treasure each day. I know each day is a gift that was paid for in part by the sacrifice of seven of the crew members who died on 6, 1944. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Methodist Hospital for the loving care they gave him while there, and CIMA for the gracious care he received at home. Obituary: Lt. Col. James Stanley Page Rayburn, USMC Ret., 30 years, passed away on 26, 2008, in San Antonio, Texas. The son of Archa Archie Edward and Frances Grover Page, his birth certificate indicates he was born in San Antonio, TX on 1, 1937. The date is correct; however, he may actually have been born in Pettus, TX. Whatever, his full name at birth was James Stanley Page. He had fond memories of growing up in the country and associations with rodeos and cowboys. During his younger years, his Dad moved him to various places, including Boerne, TX. Later, his parents were divorced and he stayed with his Mother. His travels took him from Boerne to San Antonio and Corpus Christi, TX, then to Quincy and Springfield, IL, and finally to the Houston, TX area. In Houston, while working at the VA Hospital, his Mom met and married Berry Rayburn and, in 1960, he changed his last name to Rayburn. Jim graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston in 1955. He then attended Southwest Texas State Teachers in San Marcos, TX for two years. In , 1957, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served in the enlisted ranks from Pvt E-1 to GySgt E-7 and received a temporary commission as a 2nd Lt in Vietnam. He applied for and was selected for the Permanent Warrant Office WO program and was promoted from WO1 to Chief WO4. While in the WO ranks, he was selected as a Limited Duty Officer LDO in the field of Signals Intelligence/Cryptology. He went on to attain the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, the first in his field to be selected for that rank. While enlisted, Jim was a manual Morse Code /Direction Finding operator, Traffic Analyst, Cryptanalyst, Intelligence Report Writer and Chinese Linguist. As an officer, he was heavily involved in Cryptologic Direct Support operations in Vietnam and the Mediterranean. He also served as the Commanding Officer of F Co F, Marine Support Battalion MSB, Rota, Spain; Co K, MSB, Pensacola, FL; and Co L, MSB, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. In the latter assignment, he was dual-hatted as the Commanding Officer of the Naval Security Group Activity, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, one of the few marines to command a Navy organization. Spending most of his 30 years overseas, Jim served twice in the Philippines plus tours in Germany, Spain, Okinawa, Vietnam, Hawaii twice and Cuba. His final assignment was with the Joint Electronic Warfare , San Antonio, TX. His military awards include the Bronze Star with Combat V, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, two meritorious Service Medals, two Navy Commendation medals one with Combat V and numerous unit and campaign ribbons and medals. Retiring from the Marine Corps in , 1989, Jim had a brief hiatus from the work force. He then worked for a company called Diamond Shamrock, first in the mail room then in the Wholesale Marketing with the Jobber Communications Department. He retired from Diamond Shamrock then Ultramar Diamond Shamrock after nine years. A member of numerous marine Corps/military/cryptologic organizations, he was most active in the Marine Corps Cryptologic Association. Obituary: Lt.Col. Mary Ellen Mel Daly, U.S.A.F. Ret. died at her home in Cibolo. TX 20th, 2008. Mary Ellen Daly was born in Grand Rapids, Wisconsin on 21, 1917. In her mid -twenties Pearl Harbor was attacked. In 1942 Mel joined the U.S. Air Force. It became the centerpiece of her working life. World War II she stayed in the active reserves, worked for the Secretariat in the United Nations, and found time to attend the Womens Peace Conference in Ireland. Mel was called up for the Korean conflict and remained in the Air Force until her retirement in 1968. During twenty years of active service, she served in four wars. She attained the rank of Lt. Colonel, the highest womans rank permitted during her service time. Her love of work, her cheerful determination and her ability to succeed surfaced early in her life. She was an avid member of the Girl Scouts. In 1934 she attained Scoutings highest award for girls, the Golden Eaglet. In May of 2007, she returned to Wisconsin to attend the 95th Celebration of Girl Scouts, USA. There she told the audience what she had often told others: Girl Scouts taught me not to be afraid to try anything. I learned to be independent, to do what I could do and to be honest. Mels confidence in doing, combined with a love of fun, an infectious laugh and a marvelous ability to tell stories touched the lives of the many people she knew around the world. |

Kirk entered St. Vincents Monastery in Latrobe, PA, where he was a Benedictine monk for 8 years. He then joined the US Air Force at Lackland AFB, where he later became a Commissioned Officer working in the Intelligence Community. In 1950 he married Carole Grace Aiken. Kirk earned a Bachelors Degree in philosophy from St. Marys University. He retired from Wright-Patterson AFB in 1979 and moved to Boerne, where he concentrated his time on history and genealogy. In 1993 they moved to San Antonio because of his devotion to Our Lady of the Atonement Catholic Church. He came full circle, doing what he loved by becoming a sacristan for his church. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Kirk was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carole; and 3 brothers. Obituary: Lt Col Robert James Kavanagh, USAF Ret., age 88, passed away May 11, 2008. He was born 8, 1919, in New York, New York, to the late James and Agnes Kavanagh. He was in the US Air Force for 29 years and proudly served during WW II and Vietnam. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross while serving as a lead B-17 pilot and flew 50 combat missions over Europe. Robert received a 2nd Distinguished Flying Cross and a Bronze Star during Vietnam while serving as a helicopter rescue pilot. retiring from the military, Robert had a successful real estate career for over 20 years. A loving husband, dad and granddad, Robert will be missed by all who loved and knew him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie. Robert is survived by his children, Robert J. Kavanagh Jr., MD and wife, Jane, Suzanne Kavanagh, and Judy Reynolds and husband, Clay; grandchildren, Robert J. Obituary: Lt. Col. Anthony C. Zambelli, USAF Ret., age 59, of San Antonio, succumbed to a short but valiant fight with a rare form of cancer on , 28, 2003. Tony, as he was affectionately known, was born in New Castle, PA in 1943. He was the first of 3 sons and a daughter to Carmen and Therese Broschart Zambelli. Early in his life, his Uncle Joe Broschart introduced him to flying. Joe flew B-24 Liberator in the Pacific in WWII. At age 6, Tony knew he wanted to be a pilot. He graduated from New Castle High School in 1961, turned down the offer of an appointment to the US Coast Guard Academy and attended Allegheny for one year. In 1962, he was appointed to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. While there, he met his future wife, Linda K. Davis, daughter of Carl and Marina Davis. Lt Zambelli graduated and was commissioned in 1966. He attended pilot training at Webb AFB, TX, was married in 1967, and was awarded his silver wings in 1967. Highlights of his career include a combat tour in VietNam from Oct 1967 to Oct 1968 flying the C-7 Caribou out of Cam Rahn Bay and Pleiku in support of 5th Special Forces and their A teams in the Central Highlands; T-38 instructor at Williams AFB, AZ from 1968-1972, during which time their two daughters, Lisa and Michele were born; F-4 Phantom fighter to Korat Royal Thai Air Base, Thailand, 1973-1974; F-4 assignment to Torrejon AB, Spain, 1974-1977; then to Luke AFB, AZ as an F-4 instructor 1977-1981; during which time he was awarded a Master of Business Administration MBA from Arizona State University. From 1981-1986, Tony was assigned to Reese AFB, Lubbock, TX, where he held primarily key wing supervisory positions such as Chief of Standardization and Evaluation and Director of Current Operations while maintaining instructor status in the T-37. In 1986, he received a special duty assignment as the professor of Aerospace Studies in charge of the USAF Reserve Officer Training Corp ROTC detachment at the University of Texas at San Antonio. His officers and NCOÂs worked diligently to recruit, motivate, educate, train and commission qualified men and women for careers as officers in the USAF. In 1988, he was chosen by the Air Training Command, Inspector General ATC IG to run the Education Division IGIE to conduct periodic Management Effectiveness Inspections MEI of all 152 colleges and universities with AF ROTC throughout the US including Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Lt Col Zambelli retired Jan 31, 1991 after 24 years of patriotic service. In of 1991, he was hired by United Airlines. The aircraft he flew for United include Flight Engineer on the McDonnell Douglas DC-10, First officer on the Boeing 757, 767 and 777. He was currently a Captain on the Airbus 319 and 320 until his recent illness. Lt Col Zambelli is survived by his wife of 35 years, Linda; two daughters, Lisa Delgado and husband Angel, all of San Antonio, and Michele McCann and husband Brian of Flower Mound; four grandchildren, Teran, Mercedes, Carley and Madison, brothers, Carmen Zambelli and wife Mary of Westerville, OH, and James Zambelli and wife Linda; and sister, Mary Jo Zambelli Roscetti and husband Anthony, all of New Castle, PA. Obituary: Lt Col Edward J. Wagner, USAF Ret., passed away on , May 11, 2004. He was born in Buffalo, New York and attended schools there including St. Bonaventure Prep School and St. Bonaventure University. working in the retail menÂs clothing business in Buffalo, he moved to New York City, where he worked in the foreign airport development program for Pan American Airways. He was drafted into the Army in 1941 and was stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas with the 1st Cavalry Division. He subsequently attended OCS and transferred to the Army Air Corps. He was stationed at Mitchell Field, Long Island, New York, where he met and married his wife of 58 years, Elinor, who was a producer of two national NBC radio programs. During WWII, he served in the China-Burma-India Theater, where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. the war, he was assigned to the Pentagon. Following an assignment to Wiesbaden, Germany as Director of Personnel for the 1807th Airways and Air Communications AACS Wing, Lt Col Wagner was transferred to AACS Headquarters at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City, as Director of Personnel. An assignment to Keflavik, Iceland followed where he was the Air Base Group Commander for the Iceland Air Defense Force. Lt Col Wagner returned to the Pentagon where he served as the Aide to the Comptroller of the Air Force. His last assignment involved the transfer and establishment of the Air Force Military Personnel at Randolph Air Force Base. Following his retirement from the Air Force in 1965, he worked to the Texas Employment Commission in San Antonio for 20 years as a supervisor and service representative. He was a member of the American Legion, Alamo Post 2, where he served on the Executive Committee. He was also a member of the Plaza Club. He and his wife were very active members of the Harp and Shamrock Society of Texas. Lt Col Wagner was a member of the Board of Directors of the Harp and Shamrock Society and was elected Irishman of the Year in 1995 and was the Grand Marshal of the St. PatrickÂs Day parade in 2000. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Survivors: son, LTC Ret. Edward J. Wagner, Jr. and wife, Sharon; granddaughter, Kristin Monzon and husband, Jose; great granddaughter, Adrianna Monzon; sister, Pat Olson; sisters-in-law, Clare Fraser, Bea Moynihan and Sylvia Moynihan; nieces and nephews. Obituary: General Robert Tralles Herres, USAF Ret. was born in Denver in 1932 to F. Willard and Edna Herres and passed away 24, 2008, at the age of 75. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1954 and upon graduation he entered the U.S. Air Force. He served in fighter-interceptors, technical intelligence, graduated from the Aerospace Research Pilot school, was selected to in the Manned Orbiting Laboratory program, was commander of the 449th Bombardment Wing, served in Southeast Asia as commander of the 310th Strategic Wing, as Commander of the A.F. Communications Command, as Commander of the 8th Air Force, on staff of the Joint Chiefs of Staff as Commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command and Aerospace Defense Command, as the first Vice-Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, thus the second ranking Officer in the U.S Armed Forces. He was awarded an honorary doctorate degree in engineering from Rose Hulman University. In 2005, he was honored as a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He began working for USAA in 1990 then became Chairman and CEO of the company in 1993. He often said his proudest accomplishment at USAA was the expansion to serve enlisted members. He retired from USAA in 2002. He served on the national board of the Boy Scouts of America, the national board of Junior Achievement, the board of Austin Presbyterian Seminary, the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation, VRTX Technologies and the board of Trinity University. He was chairman of the annual campaign for the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar , Masters Leadership Program, Lubys Inc. and Pinion Software Inc. General Herres was very involved in many philanthropic organizations in San Antonio. He served as an elder at First Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Colonel Fred W. Herres. General Herres is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley; children, Julie Latenser, Michael Herres, Jennifer Babeon; and ten grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed a full and active life that included skiing, fly fishing and golf. His family is most proud of what he did for them and of all he did for others. The family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to VITAS Hospice , George Dears and Jesse and Valerie Martinez for their kind and loving care. Obituary: Freemon Alton Sattelmaier, MSgt. (USAF, Ret.), passed away on , 21, 2013. He was born May 1, 1923, in Weesatche, TX. He graduated from Goliad High School in 1941. Freemon entered the military service in Houston, Texas on 18, 1943 where he was employed by the Brown Shipping as an electricians helper. An overnight train ride took him to San Antonio and thence to Fort Sam Houston for initial processing. In a few days he was shipped to Sheppard Field, Wichita Falls, Texas for Army Air Corps basic training. Upon completion of 13 weeks basic training he was transferred to Lowry Field, Denver Colorado and entered armament training to learn the techniques of different types of guns that were used on airplanes during World War II. His next assignment took him to Fort Meyers, Florida to be trained as a gunner. completing his overseas flight training at Barksdale Field, Shreveport, Louisiana he was transferred to the European Theatre (England, France, Germany) where he flew 23 combat missions on a B-26 Marauder as a tail gunner. The end of 1945 brought him back to the United States and after a ninety-day leave was stationed at Brooks Field, San Antonio, Texas. It seems Freemons travels then began which took him and his family almost completely around the world, with tours in Tripoli, Libya; Frankfurt, Germany; Oahu, Hawaii; Taipei, Taiwan; and Iraklion, Crete. Extensive vacation travels during these overseas tours took them to France, Holland, Switzerland, Austria, Japan, Hong Kong, Greece, Italy and the Holy Land. MSgt Freemon A. Sattelmaier retired from Headquarters United States Air Force Security Service, San Antonio, Texas in 1973 with 30 years and 13 days of active service. His decorations include: European-African Middle East Campaign Medal with 3 bronze battle stars; National Defense Service Medal with 1 bronze star; World War II Victory Medal; American Campaign Medal; Army Occupation Medal (Germany); Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with 1 silver oak leaf cluster and 1 bronze oak leaf cluster; Army Good Conduct Medal with 2 Silver Loops; Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters; Air Medal with 3 bronze oak leaf clusters and the Air Force Commendation Medal with 1 bronze oak leaf cluster. Obituary: Eston R. Sutton Major, USAF Ret. went to be with his Lord on 20, 2008. He was born in Longworth, Texas on 29, 1936. He was a graduate of the Class of 1955 of Lorena High School; received his B.S. from Oklahoma City University, where he also studied for a Masters Degree in Christian Education. Eston served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, retiring as a Major with many awards and honors, among them the Bronze Star Medal for his service during the Vietnam War. His second career was as a Contracting Officer for Civil Service. Eston was a faithful member of Coker United Methodist Church for more than 20 years and after his etirement he volunteered his services for many years. In recognition of his service and dedication, he was honored by being named as an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Board of Disciples, an honor he treasured above all he had received. As husband, Eston was loving and dedicated. He and his wife, Kathryn were married for over 51 years. Eston was a devoted father; coaching baseball, teaching his children to bowl, serving as the Boy Scout Liaison Officer while stationed in Germany, encouraging them to do their best in band, drama, and all activities they participated in. He was so proud of each of them and loved them dearly. Eston is survived by his wife, Kathryn Moreland Sutton; son, Terry and his wife, Judi, son, Ronald; daughter, Shannon Tatsch and her husband, Michael; mother, Mary Sutton; grandchildren, Amber Conner and Eston Lee Sutton; great-grandchildren, Nicolas and Hunter Tatsch; brothers, Bobby, James, Clinton, and M.C. Sutton. Eston was preceded in death by his son, Bryan Ray Sutton and his father, Grady Sutton. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Coker United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 231 E. Obituary: David N. Sylvester, Colonel USAF, Ret.peacefully passed away surrounded by his family at Odyssey Hospice on , 18, 2010. David was born in Rutland, Vermont on 6, 1929, to Ned and Helen Sylvester. He spent his first ten years on the farm on Lake Champlain, Vermont. When his mother passed away he went to live with his Aunt Essie and Uncle Wallace in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. He graduated high school from St. Johnsbury Academy, and went on to the University of Vermont where he was captain of the ski team, and met his future wife of 58 years, Barbara. David served in the Air Force for 30 years, and retired with the rank of Colonel. It was a rich life filled with interesting assignments to such places as Japan, South American and all over the U.S., with Colorado and Texas being his favorite. No matter what the assignment, he always had a golf course close by to frequent. David always put his family first, and they knew he would always be there for them. David is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; children, Karen, Sharon and her husband Craig; and granddaughters, Ashlea, Avery, and Allie. SERVICE MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2010 12:00 P.M. Harold was retired from Civil Service as the SSA for the 90th Army Reserve Command and served in US Army Reserve and US Air Force during the Korean War with a total of 39 years of service. Harold was a member of St. DavidÂs Episcopal Church. Harold was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite and York Rite Mason. Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Ginger Ingram Riddle. He is survived by his wife, Judith Capps Riddle; his sons, Bryan Riddle and his wife, Cindi, both of Ohio, Kelly Riddle and his wife, J.
