Obituary: Allan Benjamin Rest passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving night, 27, 2014, which fit his life because he was such a blessing to his family and friends. Allan was born on 28th, 1922 to the late David and Ida Rest. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois, attended Lane Tech High School and the University of Illinois. Allan served in the US Navy Seabees in the Pacific until the end of World War II. Allan was extremely proud to be part of the "Greatest Generation." returning from the war, Allan took over and led the third generation family plumbing contractor business for the next forty-five years. Upon "retirement" and moving to Houston, Allan went to work in the plumbing department of the Pin Oak Depot Store and worked there for almost twenty years until his actual retirement at the age of 85. It was at Depot, where customers would stand in line just to be helped by "Mr. Allan", that he inspired and became a role model to so many of his co-workers.

Allan's greatest joys were his family and friends. In 1943, Allan married his childhood sweetheart, Lois Bloomfield, and for 64 years raised their family in Glencoe, Illinois and Houston, Texas.

Allan is predeceased by his beloved wife, Lois and his parents. He is survived by his adoring children, Susan and Walter Pye, Ruth-Ann and Neil Sivers all of Houston and Barbara and Ted Rouse of Winnetka, Illinois. He is also survived by his cherished and devoted grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as "Papa", Emily, Sarah, Emma, Isabel and Walter III (Cristina) Pye, Jennifer (Adam) Cox, Cris (Elisa) Pye and his great grandson, Rhys Benjamin. Allan is also survived by his nephew Michael (Marcie) Feinberg and niece Roberta (Merritt Deeter) Klein and many other special family members and dear friends. The family would like to thank the two people who lovingly cared for Allan for the last seven years, Carol Latigue and Lucien Kuykendall. Allan loved them very much, and the family is eternally grateful.

Private graveside services will be conducted , 1, 2014, at Beth Israel , Rabbi David Lyon officiating at 12:30 PM. A celebration of Allan's life will be held at his children Susan and Walter Pye's home on 28th at 11:00 AM and all who loved and cherished Allan's memory are welcome.

Obituary: Patricia Elizabeth Respondek passed away peacefully on 5, 2016, in Austin, Texas, surrounded by family. Patty, 85, had been living in Austin for the last 6 years after 37-years as a resident of San Antonio.

Patty was born 5, 1931, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to a single mom, Elsa Pfeffer Hollinger--her father, Holt B., having passed away before she was born. She was raised by her mother and her stepfather, Earle K. Miller, who treated her like one of his own. She grew up in Grand Rapids but spent many summers with her deceased fathers family in Battle Creek, Michigan, so she was close to them in addition to her Miller family. She graduated from Grand Rapids Central High School and started her college days at Grand Rapids Junior where she was named coming Queen. graduating with her Associates degree, she attended Michigan State University where she met Stephen Peterson on a blind date visiting from the University of Michigan. put aside the university rivalry and married in 1951. Patty quit school to help with Steves college expenses. She had 6 children of this marriage which took her too many places with her husband during the Korean War to Brooklyn, New York and Nancy, France, and, back to Grand Rapids in 1953, then to Southern Indiana, near Louisville, Kentucky, in 1955, where her husband went to divinity school, back to Schoolcraft, Marne, Grand Rapids and Cassopolis, Michigan, until the Vietnam War called her husband and the family to Virginia and Texas. While raising 6 children and moving every couple of years, she also managed to go to Western Michigan University and graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso and, worked on her Masters Degree there. Patty was a pastor's wife, military wife, barbers wife, schoolteacher, and civil servant. She also served as a Docent at the Institute of Texas Cultures, a tour guide, volunteered with various charities and a city advisory board. She enjoyed genealogy research with her brother Bill, who willingly helped her explore her fathers side of the family as they traveled to the upper peninsula of Michigan and to Canada.

raising 6 children, Patty was blessed with 3 stepchildren from her marriage to the love of her life Aaron Respondek, whom she married in 1979. all made a great addition to the family and Patty always thought, The more, the merrier. Aaron was a native Texan and Patty never thought a Michigan girl could fall for a native Texan. Their wonderful marriage lasted until Aaron passed away in late 2005.

Patty was a people person with a wonderful sense of humor even when the joke was about her. She had a special bond with her nieces and nephews who likened her to Lucille Ball, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Patty and Aaron renovated an old house in San Antonio from the 1880s, where her entire family has many fond memories of family gatherings in her home. She was the ultimate hostess. During Christmas time, the presents alone often took up most of the living room when the 9 children starting having children of their own.

Survivors include her brother Bill (Mary) Miller; children, Stephen Peterson, Jr. (Bridget) of Blanco, Michael Peterson (Karen) of Dallas, Sharon Peterson of Houston, Nancy Dillow (Gale) of Sugar Land, Amy Bloomquist (Larry) of Austin, Sharon Ehninger (Rick) of San Antonio, Debbie Pape (Dennis) of New Braunfels, and Margie Schaeferkoeter (Joe) of San Antonio, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, her sister Barbara Vaughn, husband Aaron, and son, Richard Peterson.

Obituary: Rick never met a stranger. He loved meeting people, and all who knew him know that he loved to talk! He always had a story to share, one that often brought laughter and smiles. His favorite topics were the loves of his life – his wife of 35 years, Diana, and his beloved children, Lyndsey and Steven. Rick died unexpectedly in Cordoba, Spain on May 22, 2014 while on a trip with Diana. While his time with us was too short, he was able to celebrate key milestones in the past year: Lyndseys graduation from Southwestern University in Georgetown in 2013; Stevens graduation, also from Southwestern, on May 10 of this year; his retirement from Seton in 2013; the growth of his fundraising consulting practice; and, most special of all, the recent trip with Diana to Spain, where the two of them spent five glorious and joyful days together. Rick was born 4, 1954 in Chicago to Bette and George Resnik and was older brother to sister Barbara. Rick met Diana at Northern Illinois University and was smitten from the beginning. When she did not immediately reciprocate, Rick didn mind. He persevered, knowing he could win her over. And he did. graduation, they moved to Austin, and eventually both started work in 1981 at what was then Seton Hospital on West 38th Street under the iconic leadership of Sr. Mary Rose McPhee, CEO, and Gene Attal, chief development officer. Rick touched so many lives in so many ways, but his 33 years at The Seton Fund fostered loving and close relationships with donors, board members, the Daughters of Charity and his colleagues. He personally raised millions of dollars for Seton, and helped grow The Seton Funds development efforts. Just a few highlights include serving as chief fundraiser for Holy Cross Hospital; helping found the Holy Cross Hospital Development Board (now the Elizabeth Ann Seton Board) with Betty Fairey and Evelyn Egan; chief fundraiser for Seton Northwest Hospital and the Seton Community s (Seton McCarthy, Seton Kozmetsky and Seton Topfer); several expansions at Seton Medical Austin; and his dedicated efforts and special commitment to Seton League House and its Board of Directors. He found great humor in peoples surprise that a Jew raised money for a Catholic hospital, but it was no surprise to those who knew him. Rick cared passionately about equity, the dignity of people and caring for those who are vulnerable and in need. Rick found joy in many things. He loved fishing with his buddies; playing music – especially the many years he played percussion and piano with his band, the Wild Dogs; his bowling team; growing vegetables; cooking fabulous meals; boating; traveling; and spending time at the lake with his family. Rick recognized that, above all else, family was most important. For that, Diana, Lyndsey and Steven are especially grateful for they knew, every moment of every day, just how much Rick loved and cherished them. Rick was predeceased by his parents, Bette and George. In addition to Diana, Lyndsey and Steven, Rick is survived by his sister, Barbara Resnik Farley, and her husband, Mark, and their daughters, Beth and Jessica; his long-time close friend from high school, Steve Marks, his wife, Debbie, and their children Hannah and Alison. services are , 3 at 11 a.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish , 3125 North Lamar Blvd., Austin 78705 www.wcfish.com, 512-452-8811.
