Obituary: Services for Dorcas Mae Dot Rast, 80, of Diboll, will be held at 2:00 p.m. , 28, 2014 in the Gipson Chapel, with Bro. Tommy Forse officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mrs. Rast was born 26, 1933 in Pollok, Texas, the daughter of the late Lillie (Crawley) and William Cook. She passed away , 25, 2014 in a local hospital. Mrs. Rast was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She married Jackson Earnest J.E. Rast in 1953. She was quick-witted, always joking, and a cool mother. She was retired from Temple-Inland. She enjoyed yard work, bingo, playing 42, and watching local news as well as Dancing With the Stars. Mrs. Rast was a member of Jubilee Baptist Church. She was a very strong woman and a real fighter to the end. Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Hance of Diboll; son, Earnest Rast and wife Connie of Diboll; daughters, Rose Mary Williams and husband Ronnie of Diboll, Dian Rast of Diboll and Arlene Bounds of Lufkin; grandsons, Christopher Lackey of Redland, David Lackey of Redland, Jeremy Bounds of Lufkin, and Justin Bounds of Lufkin; granddaughters, Amanda Allen of Lufkin and Jennifer Black of Odessa; numerous great-grandchildren; and special friend, Billie Vardeman. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rast was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Jackson Earnest J.E. Rast. Pallbearers will be Nathaniel Thompson, Daniel Key, Delbert Ellison, Dwain Fairchild, Dan Mettlen, and Ronnie Cook. Mrs. Rasts family wishes to thank Dr. Lance Sloan and Dr. V. R. Kovvali for the cares shown to her. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. evening at Gipson . Obituary: Louis Dean Rasplicka Dr. Pepper 22, 1930 - 1, 2016 Lou began his promised journey with his Savior just shy of his 86th birthday. Lou grew up in Arcadia Nebraska, the third son of James and Emma Rasplicka. He learned the value of hard work growing up on the farm along with siblings, Dick, Jay, Lynn and Joan who all preceded him in death. graduation from high school Lou joined the Navy, serving during the Korean War. He attended Kansas State University earning a B.S. in Agriculture in 1960 and an M.S. in Agriculture (poultry studies), plus a minor in Statistics in 1962. Lou then attended Washington State University earning a Ph.D. in Food Science with a minor in microbiology in 1967. Lou married Helen Ann (Ullrich) in 1956 who preceded him in death in 2014. are survived by three children, Ginger Brendler (Rick), Sam (Jane) and Joe; five grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Lou also leaves behind his devoted friend Karen Schroeder. Lou was a member of the Poultry Science Society and the Institute of Food Technologists. He was inducted into the honorary Scientific Research Society, Sigma XI and later was inducted into the Texas Food Processors Hall of Fame in 1998. Lou began his career as manager of the Georgia Microbiology Laboratory in Gainesville, Georgia. He was recruited to Pillsbury Farms in Minneapolis as manager of the Integrated Poultry Operations and was the Director of R&D and Quality Assurance. Lou then transferred to the Pillsbury office in Ft. Smith, Arkansas and served as Manager of the Microwave Foods Division before becoming Supervisor of Development of the Poultry Sales Unit in Dallas. Lou then joined Churchs Fried Chicken in San Antonio as Manager of R&D and Quality Control. Being well known in the industry, Lou was invited to join Pace Foods in 1981 as Vice President of Technology and Operations until Pace was sold to Campbells in 1994. He became known throughout the industry as Dr. Pepper. Due to complexities in purchasing peppers third party, Lou was instrumental in creating Pepper Products, a company within Pace which allowed them to control the quality and cost of fresh peppers and onions. Lou traveled throughout Mexico, Texas, California and Florida monitoring their pepper growing operations. During this time he guided the processing of over 16 million pounds of jalapeno peppers. Lou also lead the Pace team that designed the first jalapeno pepper de-stemming and coring machine. While there wasn a pepper too hot for Lou, Paces increasing distribution in the northeast identified a need for a milder picante sauce. Over a period of years Lou led the team that developed the Pace No Heat jalapeno. gaining proprietary rights to the product, Pace sky-rocketed in the picante business. retiring from Pace Lou co-founded Triad Produce Marketing and continued to enjoy working into his eighties. As an avid golfer Lou traveled throughout the country and abroad. He was a member of Mexicana International Golf Association (MIGA) and Cosmopolitan Golf Association. A celebration of Lous life will be held at Sunset Memorial Park in San Antonio at 3:00 p.m., 30th and will continue with a reception to share stories (location to be announced). |

Obituary: Helen Ann (Ullrich) Rasplicka 12/5/1935 \ 7/23/2014 Helen took her last breath on this earth , 23, and met with great joy the Lord who gives us victory in death. Helen was born 5, 1935 in Martinsburg Nebraska where she lived until her early teenage years. She went on to live in seven different states throughout her life. As a woman of great faith, she was a member of the Lutheran Church in each town she lived. Helen met Lou Rasplicka in Kansas City where they married in 1956. Helen was an accomplished artist, honing her skills in many art mediums over the years. moving to San Antonio in 1975, Helen was active in various art, writing and poetry groups and was a charter member of the San Antonio Calligraphers Guild, serving as the President from 1977 - 1979. She taught Calligraphy at the S.W. School of Art, known then as The Southwest Craft , for over 13 years. Her strong Faith is evident and reflected in many of her works of art, through which she will continue to speak to us. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Dorathea Ullrich; and siblings Marvin, Mari, Melton, Raymond and Jerry Ullrich. Helen was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and she will be missed by her husband, Lou Rasplicka; children, Ginger (Rick) Brendler, Sam (Jane) Rasplicka, and Joe Rasplicka; and her grandchildren, Kaela, Genna, Annie, Stacia and Colby. She is survived by her siblings Myra Wilkinson and Bob Ullrich. A heartfelt thank you to all of Helens personal caregivers, the residents, family members, friends and staff at Colonial Gardens along with New Century Hospice. You all were a positive light in her final personal journey. A celebration of Helens life will be held , 28, at 11:00 a.m. at Los Patios in San Antonio, Texas. Lunch will follow, all family and friends are invited. In lieu of sending flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association. |
