Obituary: Reverend Arthur G. Robins, Sr., 86, long-time Methodist minister and resident of Franklin, died , 30, 2016 at Vanderbilt Medical . services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. at Nolensville United Methodist Church with Reverend Jim Norton and Reverend Don Sensing officiating. Burial will follow in Nolensville . The family will visit with friends from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols and from 2:00 P.M. until service time at the church. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born 5, 1930 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, where he graduated high school and entered the United States Marine Corps at the age of 18. He served in combat during the Korean War, after release from a California Naval Hospital from a mortar shell wound, which caused a paralysis injury and after long recovery he chose to enter a small Methodist in Barbourville, Kentucky. There he met and married Bula Bea Grider Robins in 1955. moved to his home state of Massachusetts and he entered Boston University. The next year he decided to transfer to Vanderbilt University in Nashville for his Divinity degree. He started his career as a youth minister at Inglewood United Methodist Church while still in school at Vanderbilt, and started his pastoral ministry at Neelys Bend United Methodist Church in Madison. Rev. Robins preached at several other churches throughout Tennessee including; Westmoreland United Methodist Church, Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Riverside United Methodist Church, Mt. Pleasant First United Methodist Church, St. Luke United Methodist Church, Coleman United Methodist Church and Woodbine United Methodist Church where he retired in 1995. He continued his preaching in retirement after a brief respite which included interims at Hohenwald United Methodist Church, St. Paul United Methodist Church, Lewisburg Chapel, and among others when he was needed. Survivors include his wife Bula Bea Grider Robins of Franklin; daughter, Suellen Robins Holland of Nolensville; sons, Arthur Jay (Lisa) Robins, Jr., Joseph M. Robins (Mian Maxwell); and grandson, John William Holland of Nashville. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. |
