Obituary: Florence J. Flo Spiewak Ryder, 78, died 23, 2014 at Vidant Medical . Flo was born in Chicago, IL, and she retired from Holy Family Hospital as Director of Accounting in 1990 and moved to New Bern, NC. She served 24 years as an officer or committee member of the Emerald Ladies Golf League (ELGA) and served as a board member for many years of the Fairways West owners Association. Flo and her husband traveled for many years in their motor home, enjoyed playing golf and taking various cruises with family members. Flo was a lover of board games, especially playing double-deck pinochle with her grandsons. Flo is survived by her husband of 46 years, Edward Ryder, her son, Harry Ryder (Linda Caryn) of of Gurnee, IL and daughter Denise Dee Dee Mayerle of Racine, WI, one sister, Beverly Becker of Illinois. She was a loving grandmother to Nicholas, Jason, Christopher, Trisha, Vicki and Michael and a great-grandmother to Maycee, her little pride and joy. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060. Obituary: William J. Rybka of Raleigh, N.C. passed away on 20, 2015. Bill told his family to notify Jesus that he was on his way via purgatory. He was born in New Castle, PA, on 6, 1920, to the late Bartholemew and Marianna Podobinsky Rybka. He enlisted in the United States Army in , 1939, and retired as a Lt. Colonel in , 1959. He also retired from Huyck, Wake Forest, in 1980 and from Cooper Handtools in 1986. He attended the University of Maryland and N.C. State University. While in the military, he witnessed the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor; and as a member of the 84th Field Artillery, 9th Infantry Division, was involved in campaigns in French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe, earning eight Battle Stars. During the Korean War, he was assigned to I Corps Artillery and earned four Battle Stars. During these two wars, he was awarded two Bronze Stars for meritorious achievement in ground operations against the enemy, two U.S. Presidential Citations, and a Korean Presidential Citation. His unit also received the Belgian Fourageres. He spent over eight years overseas, including two years in Alaska with the Arctic Test Board. He was preceded in death by his wife of forty years, Ruth Yancy; sisters, Sister Mary Dorothy Rybka, Sister Mary Terence Rybka, Anastasia Cwynar, and Elizabeth Kolodziej. He is survived by his wife, Laryce; a daughter, Judy Rybka, of Ft. Lauderdale, FLA; a son, Dr. Gary Rybka, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; granddaughters, Carrie OBrien, and her husband Tim, Anna Rybka, and Katie Mashburn, and her husband Matthew; grandson, Christopher Pace, and his wife, Julie; stepdaughter, Lillianne McDonald-Kepley, and her husband, David; stepsons, Eugene McDonald, and his wife, Priscilla, and Enos McDonald, and his wife, Pam; and brother, Chester Rybka. The family will receive friends, 4:00-6:00 p.m., 22, 2015, at Brown-Wynne , 1701 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh, N.C. Interment will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., on 23, 2015, at Raleigh Memorial Park, Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, N.C.
