Obituary: Gastonia - Rita B. Curtis Robinson, 90, of Union Road passed away 31, 2011 at her residence. A native of Lawrence , Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Albert Ferdinand and Lucy Janet Shipman Curtis. Mrs. Robinson was a member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church and worked for Matthews Belk for 32 years in the sales audit department. On 24, 2011, Mr. and Mrs. Robinson celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, William Lee Robinson of the home; son, Arnold Douglas Robinson and his wife, Ida Hall Robinson of Gastonia; grandchildren, Leigh Robinson Kellogg and husband, David Royal Kellogg of Myrtle Beach, SC, Arnold Douglas Robinson Jr. and wife, Mary Susan Lucas of Gastonia; great grandchildren, Thomas Royal Kellogg, Benjamin Douglas Kellogg, both of Myrtle Beach, SC, Andrew Phillip Robinson of Gastonia; sisters, Jessie McDowell of Fayetteville, Tennessee, Mildred Connor and husband, Don of Archer, Florida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Earl and Floyd Curtis; sisters, Grace Sills and Essie Newbern. A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. at Sandy Plains Baptist Church with Rev. Stephen Hensley and Rev. A. A. Bailey officiating. Interment will be at Gaston Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Family Life of Sandy Plains Baptist Church. Obituary: Our loving Dad, Richard S. (Dick) Robinson of Cary, North Carolina passed away in his sleep on 10, 2017, at his beloved winter home at Pelican Bay in Naples, Florida. Born on 5, 1926, he was 90 years old. Dick grew up in Irwin, Pennsylvania graduating from Norwin High School in 1944. graduation, he enlisted and served his country during WWII in the United States Army Air Corp as a radio operator on B-17s in the South Pacific achieving the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Following WWII he attended the University of Pittsburgh (Hail to Pitt!), graduating in 1951 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Dick began his engineering career with Penn Electric in Irwin, but his risk-taking entrepreneurial personality was not satisfied, and he recognized an opportunity in reinforced plastic molding and founded Penn Compression Moulding, Inc. in 1969. Starting with one small molding press and one customer, that company, his legacy, known in the industry simply as Penn continues to thrive today, with two manufacturing facilities, over 100 employees, a stable of blue chip international customers and boasts of a reputation for excellence in reinforced plastic molding. He was a member of the Society of Plastic Engineers for over forty years. Dicks leadership abilities were utilized as an original board member of the Glenaire Continuing Retirement Community and as an Elder at First Presbyterian Church of Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania and First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh. Dick was a generous man his philanthropic contributions and grants include White Memorial Church, The Carying Place in Cary, NC, The Glenaire Foundation, The University of Pittsburgh, Grove City and Hillsdale . With a passion for travel, Dick and his wife Irene traveled the world extensively, visiting all corners of the globe during their 62 year years of marriage. Dick was preceded in death by his loving wife, the former Irene Francis King. He will be missed and fondly remembered by; three daughters, Karen Turner of Cary, NC, Janice Luttner and her husband Jack of New Bern, NC, Lynette Pittman and her husband Adam of Cary, NC; six grandchildren, Erin Corson and her husband Chris, Scott Ridenour and his wife Jenna, Andrew Luttner and his wife Kathryn, Allison Pittari and her husband Johnny, Brent Turner and his fiancée Kelsey OToole, Chase Pittman; eight great-grandchildren, Robbie, Aleena, Ryan, Evan, Jack, Nicholas, Lillie and Lainey. The family will receive friends on evening 16th from 6:00 to 8:00 at Brown-Wynne in Cary. A celebration of Dicks life will be held at 2:00 , 17, 2017, at Glenaire Retirement . The family will also receive friends immediately following the service. Interment will be private at Montlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Carying Place in Cary, NC or The American Heart Association. |
