Obituary: Doris Mae Main was born 18, 1925 on the Main family farm in Liberty Township, Ringgold , Iowa. She was one of 11 children born to the late Corwin Ernest and Mabel Mae Wood Main. She attended country school in the county through the eighth grade and graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1941. Doris was united in marriage to Elza Lee Fetty on 10, 1946. To this union were born two sons; Steven Dale and Alan Lee. Doris and Elza loved to dance, especially waltzes, with their favorite being Somewhere My Love. The husband and father passed away on 14, 1973. Doris was united in marriage with Gilbert L. Rule on 21, 1974 and became stepmother to his children; Marcia, Lynette, David, Douglas and Shelly. Gib was taken in death on 5, 1978. She worked in several business offices in Mount Ayr, her last position being with the Mount Ayr Record News, from which she retired in 1995, after 32 years of service. her retirement, she spent much of her time in volunteer work at the two nursing homes in Mount Ayr and with the American Red Cross Bloodmobile. She was an active member of the Mount Ayr Preservation, Inc., the Antiques Club, the Ringgold Tourism Corporation, the Red Hat Society and the Ringgold Hospital Auxiliary. Doris was baptized at an early age and joined the United Methodist Church in Mount Ayr, where her membership has remained until her death. Doris passed away on 6, 2014 in Mount Ayr. Preceding her in death from her immediate family, besides her two husbands, were her parents Corwin and Mabel Main; four sisters, Phyllis Louise Main, who passed away in 1934 at the age of two, Maxine L. Kendig, in 1996, Arlene Marie Kimball in 1998, and Mildred H. Sobotka in 1998; two brothers, Marvin in 2011 and Virgil in 2013; brothers-in-law, Cecil Kendig, Clarence Barker and Robert Shaffer; one sister-in-law Jeannine Main and a step-son. She is survived by two sons, Steven Dale Fetty of Mount Ayr and Alan Lee Fetty and his wife, Rose, of Beatrice, Nebraska; four stepchildren, several stepgrandchildren and step great-grandchildren; brothers Larry Main and his wife, Fran, of Magalia, California and Lyle Main and his wife, Virginia, of Mount Ayr; two sisters, Juanita Shaffer of Atascadero, California and LaViece Barker of Mount Ayr; sister-in-law Lucille Main; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and her beloved dog, Megan. Memorials have been designated to Mount Ayr United Methodist Church and the Mount Ayr Senior Citizen Activity . |

Obituary: Barton Dean Rule was born on 16, 1947, in Denison, Iowa to Gilbert and Clarice (Wagner) Rule. He grew up on the family farm near Dunlap and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1966. Bart attended St. Benedicts in Atchison, Kansas and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in history in 1970. He then joined the American Peace Corps and was stationed in a village of 1200 people in Northern India. During his time in India he worked in dairy development to improve the milk output of cows. He also built a six room school house for his village with funds collected from American school children. In 1972, Bart returned to Iowa and spent four years in the Iowa Senate as a Chief of Staff to Democratic leaders Senator Jim Schaben of Dunlap and Senator George Kinley of Des Moines. For ten years Bart was Executive Director of the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities. He was also the Harrison Treasurer for a short time. In later years Bart managed fund raising campaigns around the country for churches, schools, hospitals and other nonprofit organizations. During his life Bart was always active in Democratic politics. His first campaign was in 1968 when he worked for Bobby Kennedy for President. His last was as Harrison co-chairman for Hillary Clinton in 2008. He was very active in the Iowa campaigns for President Jimmy Carter and attended the White house reception for Pope John Paul II in 1979. Bart was a member of the St. Patricks Catholic Church, a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, and served on the Dunlap Library Board. He loved to read history and political books, stay current with politics, play cards and he enjoyed a round of golf every now and then. Bart enjoyed sharing stories of his many adventures and experiences with his friends. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed. Bart died on , 2, 2015, at the Dunlap and Rehab after a battle with cancer at the age of 67 years, eight months and 17 days. Bart was preceded in death by his father Gilbert Rule. He is survived by his mother, Clarice Rule of Dunlap, Iowa; two brothers, Craig Rule of Brighton, Colorado and Alan Rule and his wife Debbie of Nixa, Missouri; and many other relatives and friends. |
