Obituary: Lois Larie Ryder was born in Scott City, Kansas on 11, 1926 and passed away in Boise on 26, 2014, surrounded by family. She was the third of six children born to Herman Patrick Ryan and Versa Helen Drain. In 1937 the family moved to eastern Idaho and Lois graduated from Pocatello High in 1944. She met Pete Ryder, her husband of 54 years, while he was attending Naval Officers School in Pocatello. In of 1945 Lois traveled alone by train to Miami, FL where they were married. Pete always said that Lois chased him as far as he could run as Florida is next to the Atlantic Ocean and he was not that good of a swimmer. With the end of WWII, Pete was assigned stateside duty in Bremerton, Washington, where they both worked at the separation center. his discharge, Lois and Pete moved back to Pocatello. Over the next several years they also resided in Boise, Spokane and Seattle and welcomed their 3 daughters, Julie, Susan and Nancy. In 1969 they returned to Pocatello to be near Lois mother and siblings and enjoyed many family gatherings, fun weekends boating on American Falls Reservoir, and friendships and travels with the BPOE (Elks Lodge). were active members of St. Anthonys Parish and treasured those friendships and time spent sharing the faith on Zaccardis patio. In 1989, they resettled in Boise to be near their grandchildren. Lois worked at Barney Goldberg Jewelers, Fox Photography Studio and The Paris in Pocatello. She later worked at Anns Hallmark in Boise. Lois was also readily available for babysitting duties for grandchildren and great grandchildren. As a young girl, Lois had a pony named Tony and she had many stories to tell about him. As Lois 85th birthday approached, her wish was to ride a horse again. As it turned out, she and all three of her daughters took a turn that day. Lois enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends and Pete would say her theme song was On The Road Again. Other travels included a fun family trip to Washington, DC and a cruise to the Bahamas. Lois and Pete also enjoyed a Hawaiian vacation—just the two of them. Lois was a member of St. Marks Parish in Boise. She was also a member of the Council of Catholic Women and other church affiliated organizations at different times in her life. Lois made lifelong friends in these groups and had many fond memories. She loved country music and she loved George Strait. She would proudly show everyone her picture taken with George when she met him in 1999 in Las Vegas. Lois thoroughly enjoyed her 14th George Strait concert in of this year. Lois and Pete played bridge in their younger years and she enjoyed playing family card games of Pinochle and Gin Rummy, and Yahtzee and Dominoes with the grandkids. Lois is survived by her daughters, Julie Poedy (Bob), Emmett ID, Susan Weidenbach (Rick), Lake Tapps WA and Nancy Ames (Garry), Boise, her sister Bonnie Anderson, Pocatello, her brother, Bill Ryan, Tucson AZ, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. A vigil and rosary will be held at St. Marks Church in Boise on , 2, 2014, at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be on , 3 at 11 a.m. at St. Marks followed by a luncheon. Burial will be at Terrace Lawn Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Marks Council of Catholic Women, 7960 W. Northview, Boise, ID 83704. The family would like to thank the nurses, staff and volunteers at Heart ‘n Hospice for their excellent care and assistance and also staff from watch givers who spent time with Mom. Lois, Loie, Speedy, Mom, Grandma, Noni, we will miss you dearly but hold all your love in our hearts. Adios, Au Revoir, Auf Wiedersehen…Good Night. |
