Obituary: Francis F. Rotter (Frank) died on , 7, 2014 at his home on Merritt Island. Frank was born 9, 1919 in St. Louis, MO. The family moved to Spokane, WA the next year where Frank grew up and went to school. In 1941 he graduated from Washington State. Before graduating, he signed up for the Marines and was called to active duty after Pearl Harbor. He served in the Pacific theater as a fighter pilot, flying the F4U Corsair. While stationed in Hawaii Frank met his future wife, Hazel. Frank and Hazel were married in Edenton, NC on May 5, 1949. Frank continued in the Marines, flying the F9F Panther jet out of Cherry Point, NC, where his first two sons were born. He served in the Korean War flying the F9F in combat. In 1952 he was stationed at the MCAS in Miami, FL, where his son and two daughters were born. 5 years in Miami he was stationed at Cherry Point, NC, Quantico, VA and Albany, GA, retiring from the Marine Corps in Dearborn, MI in 1968 as a Lt. Colonel after 27 years of service. In 1968 he moved with his family to Merritt Island. Frank worked for TWA at KSC during the Apollo moon landings. He next worked for the State of FL for 10 years, retiring in 1981. For the next 25 years Frank and Hazel traveled extensively in the U.S. and all over the world. Their son, Rob, passed away on 7, 1994 and Franks beloved wife, Hazel, passed away on 17, 2006. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Mary. Survivors are his loving children, Michael, of Pinellas Park, FL, Thomas and wife, Patty, of El Paso, TX, Patty and husband, Anton Bernhardt, of Tigard, OR, and Mary and husband, David Green, of Lauderhill, FL. Frank was a member of Divine Mercy Catholic Church. A viewing will be held on , 13, 2014 from 7-8 p.m. at Brevard Memorial Park and , 320 Spring St., Cocoa, FL. The funeral service will be at 9 a.m. on 14, 2014 at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 1940 N. Courtney Pkwy, Merritt Island, FL. Obituary: Flossie Lee Rotter,96, of Winter Park died Nov. 6, 2013 at Savannah Cottage, Oviedo. Born Nov. 29, 1916 in Rock Springs, Ga. She moved to Winter Park from Chattanooga, TN at the age of 4 with her parents Harvey and Bertha Williams. She graduated from Winter Park High School and Southern Business School in Orlando. She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard G. Rotter and her parents. A highlight of her younger years was representing Orlando in a statewide beauty contest in which she and the other winners were given a trip to Cuba. She and her husband operated the Hamilton Hotel (now Park Plaza) in downtown Winter Park in the winter. spent summers in Michigan where she managed the gift shop at The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, and he was convention manager and vice president. retiring they alternated between their homes in Alanson, MI and Winter Park. She enjoyed her hobby of landscape painting and shared her husband’s interest in fishing. She was renowned for her peanut butter pies. She joined First United Methodist Church of Winter Park at the age of 11 and was honored in 2008 as having been a member the longest. Over the years she was active in the youth ministry, United Methodist Women, church choir, the SSTs, School and the usher board. She was a member of the Pioneer Chapter #99 of the Eastern Star and the Winter Park Historical Assn. and was formerly a docent at the Winter Park Historical Museum. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Leonard Casselberry, Casselberry; nieces, Melenda J. Edmiston, Casselberry; Catherine L. Cox, Winter Park; nephews, the Rev. Daniel Casselberry, Jacksonville, Richard S. Obituary: Opal Louise Rott passed away on 24, 2014. She was born on 27, 1922, in Ashville Ohio to Walter and Wanda Flowers. Her father was a meat-cutter and her mother was a homemaker. Opal married Ralph Henry Rott in 1942, who served in the Army during World War II. In 1957 they moved to Orlando, Florida with their four children. Except for one year in Eau Gallie, Florida and one year in Melbourne, Florida, she has lived in the central Florida area. Her interests included family, reading, music, watching TV, especially the program, All My Children and feeding the birds and squirrels. She was a big cat lover, in which she had many over the years. The last one is named Carmen. Mrs. Rott is survived by her sisters, Mary Annabelle Scofield and Maxine Ellen Arzberger, daughters, Sherry L. McDermid, spouse, Thomas J. McDermid, Karen S. Carmean, spouse, Stephen Carmean, Kathy A. Lillard, widow of James Michael Lillard and son, Larry E. Rott. She had eight grandchildren, Cheryl A. Brown, Lori L. Green, Starr Maynard, Charles Carmean, Stephen Carmean, Jr., William R. Rott, Michael Curt Lillard and James Allan Lillard. Her ten great-grandchildren included Christopher T. and Woodrow Brown, Zachary T. and Rachel C. Green, Paula, Jesse and Zachary Carmean; and Darion, Seth and Serenity. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Flowers, Norman Flowers and Walter (Manny) Flowers. The family has asked in lieu of flowers, that donations would be made to the Orlando Humane Society or to the American Heart Association- Greater Orlando. |
