Obituary: Iris Rosario, of Spring Hill, also known as Brenda to many family and close friends passed away 13, 2015. She was a new resident of Spring Hill, FL moving from Bronx, NY in 9, 2015. Iris was born in 1929, in Santurce, Puerto Rico, to the late Francisco & Juana Santiago. She moved to the Bronx from Puerto Rico in the 1950’s and continued to work as a seamstress in the garment industry for a total of 10 years, both in Puerto Rico and the Bronx, NY. Iris was well known as an avid shopper, loved to do word puzzles, and was very active in her youth in sports. She participated as a weight lifter, bowler and other activities with her husband. Iris was very fond of the St. Luke Catholic Church field trips to Atlantic City, NJ and was a very active, longtime member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Bronx, NY, where she volunteered in many church activities. Iris was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Carlos Rosario, Sr.; as well as her sisters; Beatrice, Naomi and Mercedes; and grandson, Daniel. Iris is survived by her daughter, Brenda of Lakeland, FL; son, Carlos and his wife Jeanette of Spring Hill, FL; daughter, Gail and her husband Carlos of Spring Hill, FL; brother, Harry; sister in Christ, Hilda; grandchildren; Elaina, David, Norman Jr., Crystal, Maritza, Michael, Justine, and Janae. She also leaves behind 4 great-grandchildren; Destin, Arianna, Valentina, & Sage; and by her loving niece, Gloria which Iris affectionately called Cherry. Obituary: Hipolito Ruben (Benny) Rosario was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on 30, 1928 to Nicanor and Maria Rosario. He was the last of 9 children, and the only son. His mother Maria died when he was just 7 years old, leaving the task of raising him to his older sisters, in particular, Leonor. He would meet his future wife Gloria Iris when he was 12 years old at a festival during the Christmas Holidays in 1940; she was 10 years old. were both on a merry-go-round and he tried to get her attention. He learned where she lived and asked a mutual friend to introduce them. And that was the beginning of a love that would span more than 70 years. He joined the United States Army in 1950 and would marry his childhood sweetheart after she finished her college studies in 1951. But fate would test their faith when Pan American flight #526A to New York, carrying his new bride, plunged into the ocean 3 miles off the coast of San Juan on Good , 11, 1952. It was nothing short of a miracle that she survived (only 17 of 69 lived). A stranger would find her pocketbook off the seashore with a letter from Benny reassuring her that Our Lady of Perpetual Help would protect her. Benny was a good son, brother, loving husband, father/father-in-law, uncle and friend to many. He was the consummate gentleman. He was active in his church, St. John the Baptist, the Holy Name Society, and a member of the American Legion for 55 years. He served as Post Commander from 1963 to 1964. He was an outstanding machinist and owned his own business from 1970 to 1997 when he retired. He enjoyed music, dancing, and traveling. He is survived by his wife Gloria of 63 years; four children, Yvonne and partner Mary, Victor, Frances and her husband Glen, Adrian and his wife Malinda; grandchildren, Phoebe, Craig, Christopher, Jessica, Nicholas, Robynn, Victoria, Django, and Maricela; great grandchilden, Rhys, Yolanda, Peter, Travis, Jason, Derek, Angel, Joli, Isabela, Alejandra, Gabriel, and Serenity; his two remaining sisters, Margarita and Belen as well as his beloved nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. Daddy/Papíto/Títo Ben, you shall always remain a song of inspiration and eternal love within our hearts. |
