Obituary: Rhode, Carole A. 82, of Tampa, was welcomed home on , May 17, 2015. She was born in Middlesboro, KY and came here in the 1950’s. She graduated from University of Tennessee. She was a retired teacher and loved the years she spent educating children. Carole loved the Lord and was a member of First Baptist Church of Tampa. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 40years, Carl. She is survived by children, Alex (Amanda) Rhode and Lisa (Steve) Newell; grandson, Casey Newell; brother, Jim Adams and a large extended loving family. A visitation will be held from 6-8pm on , May 22nd at Blount & Curry MacDill, 605 S. MacDill Ave. A graveside service will be held at 1:30pm on , May 23rd at Slyvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2853 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater. Obituary: Frank A. Tony Rhoday, 59 died on 24, 2011 at Treasure Coast Hospice, in Ft. Pierce, FL. He was born Marion, IN and lived in Stuart for 24 years, and has lived in Port St. Lucie for the past 28 years. Obituary: Reverend Rhoads was born in Hampton,Virginia the son of a career Air Force officer. He traveled extensively with his family and attended high school in Tokyo, Japan and Tampa, Florida. high school he enlisted in the Air Force as a Combat Security Policeman. specialized training, he was sent to Korea during that war and received his first Bronze Star. his enlistment, he attended Troy University where he met and later married his wife and partner in ministry Tommie Jo Baker of Dothan, Alabama. graduation from Troy University he then went to Emory University where he received a Master of Divinity Degree. During the seven years at Troy and Emory, he served as pastor of Methodist Churches in Alabama-West-Florida Conference. graduation from Emory , he was assigned to organize and build a new church in Jacksonville, Florida. Just two months before the first service in the new church, he was called back to active duty with the Air Force as a chaplain. His assignments included McCoy AFB, Florida; South East Asia; Dover AFB, Delaware; Zweibrucken Germany; Keesler AFB, Mississippi; Air Command and Staff at Maxwell AFB, Alabama; Holloman AFB, New Mexico; Elmendorf AFB, Alaska; Malstrom AFB, Montana; Berkstrom AFB, Texas; Command Chaplain of the new Air Force District of Washington; and Kirtland AFB, New Mexico where retired after 30 years with the Air Force, and retiring with the rank of full Colonel. He was highly decorated for his military career. He received a total of 22 medals and ribbons including the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars Meritorious Service Medal with one silver and one bronze oak leaf cluster. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Young Men of America award, and was selected for the Charles Carpenter Award for the Outstanding Chaplain at PACAF Command and later was selected for the same award for the USAFE Command. He also received the Terrance Finnegan Award for the Military Airlift Command for Outstanding work with Single Airmen. retirement, Bill was assigned at the Associate Pastor of the Pasadena Community Church in St. Petersburg, and then transferred to the Killearn Methodist Church in Tallahassee where he served for 15 years. He has preached extensively in churches in Florida, Georgia and Alabama. He held three preaching missions in the Bahamas, and has been guest preacher in churches in England. He served as interim pastor for six months at St George Island and then again as interim pastor of the Tallahassee Heights UMC for nine months while the pastor was serving as a Navy Chaplain in the Middle East. His last assignment was as pastor of Pine Grove United Methodist Church in Live Oak, Florida where he served for 2 ½ years. Prior to the death of his wonderful wife of 50 years, he was happily married to Tommie and they were the parents of three really great sons. Bill Jr. of Glenwood, AL; Ron of St Petersburg; and John of Jacksonville. have twelve grand-children and two great-grandchildren. Tommie and the boys all formed a great partnership in ministry across those many years of Christian service, as they traveled together to so many exciting places. were all blessed to have the exciting experiences they had in traveling to such interesting places, and doing so many wonderful things together as a family. Both Tommie and Bill loved both their children and their grandchildren, and always held them close to their hearts. Bills life was full of experiences in crisis management for the chaplaincy. As such he was moved frequently from base to base to help reestablish the chaplains program and help train chaplains and chapel managers for more effective ministry. He was rewarded for those efforts with promotions and finally selected for full Colonel in his 16th year. His heart was for ministry and his passion was preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. He has mentored quite a number of young Methodist Ministers and has worked hard to help train and encourage these men and women. his retirement from Killearn there have been very few s that he was not somewhere preaching. There will be a gathering of family and friends at Culleys MeadowWood - Timberlane Road Chapel on 9 from 5:30-7:30. Services will be held 10am 10 at Killearn United Methodist Church 2800 Shamrock St S, Tallahassee with a reception to follow. |
