Obituary: While it is possible to receive good counsel from a wide circle of family and friends, few could do it with the skill and aptitude of Iluminada T. Quidolit. She had a true talent for helping others reach their full potential and brought out the best in those who sought her help. Iluminada was a forward-looking woman whose personality was filled with empathy toward everyone she met. She could be quiet and reserved, but her style of communication was authentic and direct. An excellent communicator, Iluminada was a master at using imagery when she explained her ideas and concepts. She seemed to have an endless supply of innovative concepts and strategies for how to help those around her. Her sensitivity, kindness and generous attitude made her a wonderful friend for all who knew her. From the time she was born on 16, 1934, Iluminada showed a deep concern for others. She was a giving and caring individual, ethical and full of integrity and warmth. Iluminada came into this world at home in Ilocos Sur, Philippines. Her parents were Maracela Arubio and Paulino Adovas Tabucol. Iluminada was raised in Ilocos Sur, Philippines. Because fellowship was so important to her, Iluminada promoted harmony with her siblings. She was raised with six siblings. She had four brothers, Francisco, Aquino, Victorio and Felix, and two sisters, Perla and Rosita. Iluminada was something of the family diplomat. She helped to settle problems and conflicts and kept the family running smoothly. As a young girl, Iluminada interacted well with other children. She was helpful. She was an independent person who had a vivid imagination. Iluminada had a number of interests in her youth. She was an active child. Iluminadas memorable achievements included being in the Miss Facoma and Miss Industry pageants. A good student who was enthusiastic about learning, Iluminada was considered by many to be a high achiever. She graduated from Ilocos Sur National High School in 1953. She enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite courses and teachers. Iluminadas talents in writing proved to be an asset for her during her college years. She excelled in classes, even in some subjects that didn particularly interest her. Iluminada became known to her peers as a seeker of wisdom who appreciated all types of courses, especially those in Liberal Arts which allowed her to build on her remarkable retention of general knowledge. She earned a two year degree in the Arts. Her favorite course was Economics. Able to maintain a positive focus on the potential good to be found in others, Iluminada was always ready with solid advice and guidance to offer her group of friends. She was generally friendly to all who knew her, yet to some she seemed quite independent. For those who really knew Iluminada, they recognized that she could be full of surprises. Iluminada enjoyed a small but solid group of true friends. She would willingly support those friends when they needed it. Because of her ability to read people, she had an uncanny knack for knowing when a friend needed help. While growing up, one of her best friends was Adeleida Caliboso. Later in life, she became friends with Daisy, Cora, Leoning, Teresita, Vangie and Ella. Iluminada was romantic, even poetic at times. She was completely devoted to family and friends, able to show her emotions without going overboard about it. On 29, 1958 Iluminada exchanged wedding vows with Catalino Llanes Quidolit in Caoayan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. All who knew her would agree that there was a certain kind of magic in how Iluminada was able to bond with her children. While she could be a firm disciplinarian, she could also fill the role of being a collaborator with her kids. Iluminada was always a mentor who helped her family reach its full potential. Iluminada was blessed with three children, Constante, Josephine and Eileen. were also blessed with six grandchildren, Natasha, Dante, Bobby, Joseph, Ashley and Jordan, and one great grandchild, Jasmyn. Iluminada projected a subtle but positive influence in her workplace. She was comfortable working behind the scenes to help everyone get their job done, and she worked hard at all times to help others to reach their highest potential. While her colleagues did not view her as a high-spirited type, Iluminada was effective at working with others to gain acceptance for her ideas. Iluminada could be a perfectionist at times, but wasn one to seek out personal recognitions. She possessed excellent insight and a strong ability to meet schedules. She was an innovator who worked well independently, and she enjoyed the task of meeting a constant array of challenges. Her primary occupation was house wife. As an imaginative and inventive person, Iluminada was comfortable showing her creative spirit. She enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Once Iluminada took on a new project, she saw it through to its completion. Her favorite pursuits were cooking, shopping, dancing and doing word search puzzles. She also enjoyed playing the penny and nickel slots at the casino. She was content to enjoy her hobbies alone but was also willing to share her interests with others. Iluminada was one who put forth her best effort in every aspect of her life, and that carried over to her participation in sports as well. Her sense of diligence inspired others and in turn drew best efforts from her teammates. In high school, Iluminada did calisthenics. Recreational sports included dancing. Because Iluminada was a person who enjoyed helping, teaching and working with others, she was a perfect fit for many types of organizations. Her ability to encourage others, energize the group and her ability to solve all sorts of problems made her a desirable member of a wide variety of organizations. Obituary: Alma Gruell Quidato passed away peacefully on , 22, 2014 with her family at her side after a six-month battle against cancer. She was 73. Alma was born to Nikolaus and Anna Gruell in Freising, Germany on 31, 1941. In 1962, she met the love of her life, James Quidato, who was in the American Army stationed near her town. a yearlong courtship, James Quidato married Alma Gruell on 8, 1963. moved to the United States in 1964 and settled in Napa in 1972. Alma loved to travel, and the couple had close friends with whom they went on cruises and trips to Germany, Philippines, Hawaii, and Mexico. She was a 40-year member of the Napa German Club, and had many lifetime friends that she cherished. Alma is survived by her husband of 51 years James Quidato, daughter Karen Quidato of Sacramento, daughter Sandy Connelly, son-in-law Mike Connelly, grandchildren Anna and Reno, all of Klamath Falls, OR, and brother Nikolaus Gruell in Germany. She was preceded in death by parents Nikolaus and Anna Gruell, sister Heidi Gerlsbeck, and mother-in-law Vic Quidato. A celebration of her life will be held , 16 at 12:30 p.m. at the Pelusi Building at Kennedy Park, Napa. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Kaiser Hospice or the local animal shelter. |
