Obituary: We say a sad farewell to our mother, Muriel Grace Helen Quer, knowing she has found her place at last. She was an elegant, kind and caring woman who spent countless hours as a volunteer. She served on the Research Hospital Womens Auxiliary, the St. Andrews Church Altar Guild, Collectors Corner store for the Eisenhower Medical in Palm Desert, California, and most proudly, twice as co-chair of the volunteers at La Quinta Country Club for the Bob Hope Desert Classic golf tournament. She was a loving mother who always helped out at schools and within her community. She loved to shop and would take each person (friends, children, grandchildren) shopping and find just the right thing. It was very special. At the last, she loved sipping iced mochas and watching the dogs play at the dog park. Born in Hoosick Falls, New York, 9, 1924, she met and married Dr. Erich Quer, her husband of sixty-seven years in nearby Albany. She worked with him to build his general surgery practice at Research Hospital. raised their children and traveled the world together. Her favorite U.S. destination was the Garden of the Gods in Colorado, and she loved London. She made fine homes, in Mission Hills and Kansas City, and in La Quinta, California. She made many good friends and good times wherever she went. She spent her final few years in Santa Marta Assisted Living in Olathe, Kansas, and died with family by her side in her home there on 15th. Preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother and sister and a nephew, she is survived by her children, son Geoffrey, his wife Sharon, daughter Linda Muller, her husband Skip, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and loving nieces and nephews. The family wishes to sincerely thank Santa Marta Assisted Living staff, Grace Hospice and Heaven Sent , especially Alicia, Randa, Jackie, Whitney, Kim, Pam and Kathy, for the loving care they gave to our mother. There were many, many others among those staffs and we thank them all. There will be a private burial. We will have a reception to share with friends at The Bristol restaurant on , 31 from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in her name to a favorite charity or make a planting in her honor. Obituary: Erich Alfred Quer, 89, of Olathe, passed away on , 29, during a battle with cancer. Visitation will be , 1, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Mount Moriah & Freeman , 10507 Holmes Road. Private burial. Erich was born in Linz, Austria on 17, 1922 to Alfred Felix and Josepha Salzer Quer. In 1939, he came to the United States with his parents. Erich put himself through Roanoke in Roanoke, Virginia, earning a degree in Chemistry. He attended medical school at Albany Medical , where he obtained an M.D. degree with high honors. There, he met and married his wife, Muriel Grace Helen in 1944. He interned at St. Lukes Hospital in Chicago, and proceeded from there to the Mayo Clinic to earn a Master of Science degree and fellowship in surgery from the University of Minnesota. His studies were interrupted by his service as a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1947-1949 in post-war Japan and the Philippines. For the next 39 years, he practiced General Surgery, primarily at Research Medical , as partner in Hartwig, Quer and Doering. He served as president of the medical staff, chief of surgery and chairman of general surgery. He also served as president of the Kansas City Surgical Society and a board member of Kansas Blue Cross-Blue Shield. He was presented with the Distinguished Service Award at RMC, recognizing his outstanding leadership and service to the . He lived in Mission Hills, on the Country Club Plaza and in Prairie Village. And for over thirty years he spent winters in a home with the best view of the La Quinta Country Club golf course and mountains in La Quinta, California. An avid golfer with the prettiest swing you ever saw, he was a member there, and at Indian Hills Country Club, PGA West and the Garden of the Gods Country Club. He is survived by Muriel, currently living at The Plaza at Santa Marta in Olathe, Kansas, son Geoff (Sharon) of Olathe, daughter Linda Quer Muller (Skip) of Cleveland, Missouri, granddaughter Meghan Quer Brown and great-grandson Easton Brown, grandson Justin Quer, step-grandchildren Aaron Muller (Daphne), Tiffany Muller, and Kaycie Booher (Cory), and step-greats Brady, Austin, Colby and Abbigayle. He was a unique individual, known among friends for his colorful wardrobe and humor, known by his patients as a devoted and skilled surgeon, known by his family as a generous and loving husband, Dad and Papa, and by all who knew him as a man dedicated to excellence. He was, by all accounts, of genius intelligence and a very gifted surgeon. He traveled the world with his wife. It was a truly splendid life, built from scratch and encompassing so much.
