Obituary: Michael David Patton, 55, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly of cardiac arrest on 6, 2012 in Boulder, Colorado. Michael was an amazing, devoted and loving father to his children, Shelby Michael and Graham Wilson Patton, and displayed this love daily with his words, actions and deeds. Included in his circle of love was the love of his life, Amparo Rodriguez, who gave Michael tremendous joy and happiness every moment that they were together, even though that time was too short. Michael also leaves behind his best friend Jeff Kostelecky and his beautiful wife, Caroline - they were Mikes family, too. There was never any doubt of the special love they all shared together. Michael was born in Germany on 10, 1956. His career started in the United States Air Force, where he served honorably from 1977 - 1980. In 1980, he began his career with Ford Aerospace and moved to Lockheed Martin shortly thereafter. He was a Certified Program Manager with Lockheed Martin, managing the Space Based Infrared System operations at Schriever AFB in a career that spanned over 30 years. His accomplishments and awards were many, but most of all Michael was proud of all the talented people he had the privilege to work with and their success and dedication to their programs. In his spare time, Michael was an avid runner and ran every race he could with passion. He was also a gifted amateur photographer who loved nature and the outdoors. He loved to travel and photograph the world around him, and especially loved sharing travels with Graham, Shelby and Amparo. Michael had a passion for the ocean and sailing. He took every opportunity he could to sail and most recently went on a sailing trip to the British Virgin Islands with his children. One of Michaels biggest dreams became a reality when he began planning to retire, buy a boat and sail around the world. Michael had an amazing sense of adventure and was always pushing himself towards new experiences. His natural curiosity and intelligence led him to constantly learn new things; from bow-making to cooking, photography and sailing. He was fascinated with other cultures and seized any opportunity he could to learn about different countries and people. Michael was always looking towards the future and planning his next adventure with his family. Most of all, Michael was devoted to his children. He gave everything he could to see his children succeed and provided them with every opportunity to do so. He was so proud of their success and accomplishments. Michael also leaves behind his father, David Wilson Patton, and his mother, Sandra Graham Patton; his sisters, Patti Patton Bader, Tinta Patton Martin, and Ann Wilson Patton, and brothers, Charles Graham Patton, and David Wilson Patton II; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. |

Obituary: Craig is survived by his loving father; Doug Patton, brother; Rod Patton, nephews; Corky Patton, Dustin Patton, niece; Hannah Patton, step-father; John Reiss and many friends. He will be greatly missed. In Remembrance of a Friend By Melody Stewart (09-02-2015) An Actor, a Friend, Some Kind of a Man He was some kind of a man. What does it matter what you say about people? This famous line from A Touch of Evil conveys the hopelessness we often feel when someone we love dies. When faced with a bitter reality we neither planned for or can control, we often feel as though we have no words to express the hollowness in our hearts. To the departed it does not matter what we say about them, but to the living, the ones left behind, it does. The story still has to be told once more, and again and again. To Craig Patton's friends and family the story matters a great deal. Born Lee Craig Patton in Denver Colorado, 7th, 1957, Craig showed early signs of being, well, noticeable. Having an eye, and some would say disposition, for trouble, Craig's early antics involved playfully strangling his younger brother Rod (as evidenced in the family photo albums) and according to childhood friend, Andy Wagner, testing the patience of the local police for riding his bike on the sidewalk (among other things). It's great that rouble meant riding your bike on the sidewalk! These early antics foreshadowed his talent for getting noticed and eventually getting noticed as an actor. Like many of you out there, early in his career, Craig frequented the Casting Director showcases like AIA (still going strong) and The Actor's Group. He worked at his craft and enjoyed the work as a kind of play. A close friend and rother from another mother, Jeff Stein said of Craig, (He) served as a reminder for why we performer types do what we do: For the love of it. He just wanted to be in the game and he stayed to cheer other actors for all four quarters. Wouldn't we all love to work with someone like that? Someone, as Jeff put it, ...who expected nothing except to be there, immersed in it, as an equal, a colleague to all. Craig was well known for theatre as well as film/television. Much like his beloved game of football, he loved acting on stage because he loved the ensemble experience. He was, after all a team player. Jeff Stein remembers a time when he joked that Craig reminded him of the scene in the movie, Remember the Titans when Ethan Suplee's character says, Someone said football, so I come running. Jeff reminisces that, To Craig, someone said 'acting' and he came running. Some of his favorite theatrical experiences included many roles at the Glendale Theatre and one of his favorite roles as the double-speaking Vice President Burden in the genius political satire MasterGate by Larry Gelbart (The Actors Group Theater). Craig's do it for the love of it attitude spilled over to film and television. When asked by a casting director if he would mind showing up to the set for just one line Craig laughed and said, Mind?. Of course he would show up. Of course he would do his best. That's who he was, and casting directors, writers, directors, and fellow actors took notice and appreciated his attitude. And so it's not surprising that Craig lived the nowcasting.com motto of taking charge of your own career, even before it was our call to action. Craig's most recent film, American Bred, is set to be released some time in 2016. Other films some of you may have seen include, the critically acclaimed, Taylor's Way and the comedy, Poor White Trash. His television roles include guest starring roles in, The Shield, Criminal Minds, Jericho and Dexter, among others. While Craig had a long and successful career, like most actors, Craig occasionally suffered from the ego based fear of being seen as a failure. Questions like, Should I really be doing this? When/how will I get a break? or my personal favorite from the television series Party Down, when Lizzie Caplin's character says, If I get this part then every decision I've ever made will make sense. For Craig, quitting was unthinkable, and he ignored the judgment from others about the art of acting. Jeff recalls someone asking Craig why actors did plays for practically no money. He and Craig responded by asking the naysayer, "Do you get paid to be in your softball league? And by the way, when was the last time senior citizens lined up to buy season tickets to your games?" Craig would never quit because, as Jeff says, ...when you've cultivated as much desire to the core of your soul to creatively express as Craig did, looking at the possible absence of that feels so horrible! Now his friends and family must look at the absence of Craig from their lives and it does feel horrible. But he lives eternally in their memories and the stories they tell. For them, it matters what they say about Craig, what anyone says, because he was not just ...some kind of a man. He was the best kind. Craig Patton died in Colorado visiting family, 11th, 2015, of sudden cardiac arrest. |

Obituary: JIMMIE RAY PATTON Memorial services for longtime area resident Jimmie Ray Patton will be held at 10 a.m. on , 23 at the Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church with Reverend Steve Nofel officiating. Jim was born in Pueblo, Colo. on 10, 1934 to Ernest Everett and Roberta Lenore (Yowell) Patton. He passed away at Vista Grande Inn on , 16, 2015. Jim was 80 years old. Four years after graduating from Dolores High School, Jim Patton wondered if the Lord was calling him into formal ministry. He had already received an arts degree in business and explored the world of geology at Fort Lewis in Durango and Westminster in Salt Lake City. Four years later he had his answer when he graduated from the San Francisco Theological Seminary, and returned the next year for an advanced degree in Biblical Theology. Summers were busy with church programs, and the Ranchers Camp Meeting program under the Board of National Missions of the Presbyterian Church. On 28, 1960 Jim stepped into the sanctuary here at Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church and was ordained a minister. Also occupying Jims attention during this time was classmate Charlene. Charlene was pursuing an education in Christian Education at the seminary in San Francisco. were married in the fall of 1960, and leaving the very next day drove to Whitlash, Mont. where Jim took up his post as Pastor and School Missionary. Actually Jim says the ministry was a mobile ministry on the Montana-Canadian border that included four more churches. The Pattons (Yes, all piled into the car!) wore out tires covering 30, 000 to 40, 000 miles per year. Jims career as pastor included churches in South Dakota, Colorado, and one in Auke Bay (North au), Alaska to accept a call to the Chapel by The Lake. The Chapel was a popular location for weddings due to the magnificent view of Auke Lake and Mendenhall Glacier. A scene Jim and Charlene enjoyed every morning when they woke up. Jim recalls that he celebrated approximately 200 weddings at the Chapel. seven years at the Chapel, the Patton family moved into the downtown au area and Jim opened a counseling service. Missing the parish ministry, Jim and Charlene left Alaska and Jim was installed as pastor in Northwest Montana. Then moving to Billings he and Charlene worked in partnership as directors of Christian Education for Presbyteries of Glacier and Yellowstone in Montana. Jim retired in 1996 and he and Charlene moved to their property on the Dolores River. It wasn long before they were off again while Jim served as interim pastor for several churches. As Jim often said, You retire, but you don quit! Surviving Jim are his beloved wife, Charlene Patton of Cortez; his children, John Patton and wife, Jan of Durango, Colo., Virginia Ginger Blaisdell and husband, Dave, and Amanda Mandy Holland and husband, Selmon, all of au, Alaska; by five grandchildren and one great grandchild; and by his siblings, John Patton and wife, Charlieen, and Norma Carol Orrell, all of Cortez. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Jim Patton with the Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church. |
