Obituary: Ysabel C. Ponce (nickname Willie) passed away peacefully at his home on 28, 2016 surrounded by his family. Willie was born on 8, 1924 in Holtville, California. He was one of ten siblings born to Reyes and Trancida Ponce. Willie was brought up during a generation where people worked hard, saved their money and believed in the American Dream. Willie came from humble beginnings but through hard work and frugal spending, he was able to purchase a home as well as invest in several real estate properties. He married Lena Saragosa and they had four children. Willie was a loving husband and great dad to his children. He loved talking to everyone he met and would talk to anyone. It didn matter who they were, it made no difference to him. Everyone was treated with the same respect. Survivors are his four children: John Ponce, Robert Ponce and his family, Norma Hauser and her family and Nora Carver and her family. Go in peace, dad . . . and be with the Lord . . . don forget to say Hi to mom for us . . . love you, dad, so very much! Services held at Forest Lawn, Cypress, California on 10th for the Rosary and 11th for the services and burial. |

Obituary: In loving memory of Vera C. Ponce....... Loving wife and mother, grandmother of eight, great-grandmother of 15, and great-great-grandmother of one Vera passed away in Redlands, CA on 27th, 2010 Vera was born in San Bernardino, CA. on May 9th, 1915. She was a life long resident of San Bernardino. She is survived by two (2) daughters, Lydia Ponce Ortiz of Redlands, and Peggy Ponce Ledesma of San Bernardino. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 yrs., Mel Rios Ponce, and eight (8) brothers and sisters. She will be dearly missed by all. To Mrs. Vera C. Ponce, the entire world was a stage. An expressive, optimistic, and uninhibited individual, she was a performer in the theater of life. To everyone around her, she seemed to be eternally happy, and she willingly shared that joy with anyone whose life she touched. For Vera, bringing out the best in any situation was as easy as offering a smile, a witty remark or the twinkle of an eye. And with just those simple gestures, she could evoke the most pleasant of emotions. Vera really mastered the art of living and had great fun in doing so. Vera was born on May 9, 1915 at home in San Bernardino, California. Her parents were Justino Villegas Arias and Lidia Cendejas Arias. Vera was raised in San Bernardino, California. Even as a child, Vera had the ability to lift the spirits of all those around her. She was raised to be warm, caring and friendly. She couldn help but capture everyones attention. She was definitely a little bit of a show off, but in doing so, she succeeded in entertaining her entire family. Always a good playmate, Vera was easygoing and fun loving. She managed to lighten the mood wherever she was, even during family squabbles. She seemed to have a knack for bringing compromise and erasing tense situations around the house. Due to a generous dose of common sense, Vera managed to find a satisfying solution to basic problems. Vera was raised with eight siblings. She had an older brother Manuel and seven younger brothers and sisters Beatrice, Catherine, Fernando, Henry, Lucy, Mary Alice and Richard. All of Veras playful good humor carried over into her childhood. She was possessed with an outgoing personality, a lively imagination and a mellowed enthusiasm for life that allowed her to be constantly on the go. As a result, Vera experienced a rather active childhood, and this suited her very well. In her spare time she liked cooking and helping her mom take care of her brothers and sisters. Vera was a great sister. Vera never actually encountered a stranger in her dealings with people. She was drawn to individuals and crowds, using her gregarious, adaptable and outgoing personality to captivate her audience. This quality allowed Vera to continually develop new relationships, ever widening her circle of friends. Vera delighted in her role among all her acquaintances, because she viewed them all as potential spectators for her performance. Whether it was a story, a joke, a song or just plain fooling around, Vera was always right at home putting on a show among her friends. Vera utilized her interest in others as a great way to connect with them. While growing up, some of her best friends were Mary Magdaleno and many others. Later in life, she became friends with her co-workers at the Harris . Vera loved sharing life and having her home filled with people she knew. The gift of being emotionally expressive and outwardly affectionate made Vera very easy to approach. On 26, 1937 Vera exchanged wedding vows with Melquiades Rios Ponce at Holy Rosary Catholic Church of San Bernardino, California. She tried hard not to impose on her spouse. She was always sensitive to other peoples feelings, and that was especially true in marriage. Perhaps the reason Vera related so well to children was the fact that she never really completely grew up herself. The ability to be just a kid at heart helped her in raising her own children. Vera was blessed with two children, two daughters, Lydia Ann Ortiz and Peggy Ledesma. were also blessed with eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Her grandchildren are Mark, Chris, George Jr., Christy, Karen, Tony, Tim Jr., and Jeff. At work, as in life, Vera was a real people person. she had a very successful way of dealing effectively with others, and her enthusiasm and energy was often contagious. Her primary occupation was as a sales clerk. She was employed for twenty years at The Harris and two years at Montgomery Ward. Vera enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Her favorite pursuits were dancing, reading, watching old westerns and keeping in touch with her extended family. Vera was content to enjoy her hobbies alone but was also willing to share her interests with others. Vera had an endless appetite for new and different activities. She was always ready to join in the fun and add her flair and energy to an organization. Because of her personality, her humor, and her ability to get along with everyone, Veras service was greatly valued by the organizations to which she belonged. Throughout her later years, Vera was an active member of the Latin American Social Club of San Bernardino, which she and her husband helped to form. Vested with a deep concern for spiritual development, Vera recognized that her faith was important to her throughout her life. She was a member of St. Anthonys Catholic Church for most of her life.
