Obituary: 7, 1932 - 5, 2017 Norman M. Pokras, D.D.S., age 84 beloved Oral Surgeon practicing in Long Beach in Lakewood-Village for over 50 years passed away 5 after a brief illness. He was a kind and loving husband to Sheila, Judge (ret), and father to Allison (Jeff) of Santa Cruz, Andrea (Brad) of Huntington Beach and Laurence of Westminster. He was a devoted grandfather to Jason, Amiee, Rachel and Sebastian. He was a die hard "Laker" fan, a delightful jokester, movie buff, lover of Tchaikovsky, poetry, 1930-45 music, Frank Sinatra, and reader of Kellerman's, Robert Parker, Moseley and other authors of mysteries. Norm was a patented inventor of medical and dental appliances. "Norm" was an animal lover, botanist and an extremely talented artist. Each year he drew amazing holiday cards which are collector's items for many. He was born in Connecticut and raised in New Jersey to parents Harry and Sylvia. He is survived by sister Rhoda of New Jersey and predeceased by brother Jerry. He did his undergraduate work at Rutgers University (Newark) and had an early acceptance to Temple U., School of Dentistry. He completed his Oral Surgery training at Newark City Hospital, NYU and Harlem Hospital. Upon completion of training, Norman was commissioned a Captain in the Air Force and arrived in California. With his wife and two daughters, they spent two years at Travis Air Force Base where Norm practiced Oral Surgery. Son Larry was born in Long Beach. The three children went to Lakewood High. Most of his staff were with him for many years some at least for 20 years. In fact some were the children of his original staff. He loved having second generation assistants. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on , 13th at Pacific View Memorial Park & Mortuary. Obituary: Leonard A. Pokorski, 85, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on 26, 2014, in Upland, California. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on 10, 1929, to John and Magdalene (Ert) Pokorksi and was the youngest of their four children. Lenny was preceded in death by his brothers Henry and Steve, and sister Laura. He grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, where he met and married the love of his life, Roberta Krasinski. A few years later, they moved to their own home in Twinsburg, Ohio, where they raised their four children. then moved to California in the late 1960s, and lived in Covina for many years before moving to Upland, California where they helped raise their grandchildren. Lenny spent his working career in the automotive industry. He started out on the line, and eventually owned his own body and paint shop in Twinsburg, Ohio. moving to Covina, California, he managed Bryant Pontiacs Body and Paint Department for 18 years before once again owning his own auto body and paint facility in Covina, California. He sold his business and retired in 2000. He was also involved in many community and business organizations. He was a proud member of the Elks, Masonic Lodge and Shrine; was very active in his business community with Rotary and Chamber of Commerce; was a board member of the San Gabriel Valley Credit Union and the San Gabriel Valley Red Cross; and was dedicated to the Caring Hearts Organization in Upland, California. Lenny loved his polka music and enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, reading, camping and traveling with the Doo-Be-Doos, and being with his family and friends. Lenny is survived by his wife Roberta, his life-long love and companion of 67 years; his son Jerry, his son Jim and daughter-in-law Sandy, his daughter Susan and son-in-law Michael, his daughter Linda, his grandchildren (Jacqueline, Jonathan, Chad and Eric), 14 great-grandchildren, and many close friends he thought of as family. Lennys family and friends will be having a Celebration of Life gathering at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association or the Cancer Society of America, or a favorite charity of those donating. |
