Obituary: John B. Permantier 1,1926 - 23, 2011 John Bennett Permantier was born on 1, 1926 in Dubuque, Iowa and went to his eternal life on 23, 2011 in Long Beach, California. He was raised in Iowa and attended St. ines Catholic School along with his sister Sally. He then attended Drake University. John was proud to be called a Marine, and served in China during WWII. At a college party in Des Moines he met and fell in love with his life-long partner, Sally Hill. courting her, they were married on 2, 1948 in St. ines and had fifty-five enjoyable years together. As newlyweds, John and Sally lived and worked in Aimes, Iowa during which time John worked at Younkers. purchased their first home in Des Moines where their four wonderful children, DiAnne, Michael John, Timothy John, and Suzanne were born. In 1955 John packed up his family and moved out to California where over the years many friends and other family members moved as well. John worked at Riker Laboratory for many years prior to going to work at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, where he was personnel manager. His job required him to travel internationally, which he came to love. commuting for a time, the family moved to Long Beach. purchased the family home in 1967 and lived there for forty-four years. John and Sally nurtured many wonderful friendships over the years. An integral part of their lives was based around their church family at St. Cornelius Catholic Church. He and Sally were involved in many of the church activities such as Fiesta Days, Boy and Girl Scouts and Marriage Encounter, In addition, John sang in the church choir for over 25 years. John and Sally both caught the travel bug and were fortunate to travel extensively during their later years throughout the United States as well as internationally. retirement they spent quite a bit of time with his Marine brothers and their families from the China Marines at meetings and annual reunions all over the country. He is survived by his four children, DiAnne Jahn (Rick), Michael Permantier, Timothy Permantier (Sue), and Suzanne Bolton (Gary); nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren, his sister Sally and many nieces and nephews. John loved a good conversation and was great at striking up a chat with everyone he met. He was a great husband, father and friend, and will be missed by many. A memorial mass will be held on , 5th at 10:00 a.m., at St Cornelius Catholic Church in Long Beach, 5500 East Wardlow Rd. Donations may be made in Johns name to the St. Cornelius Catholic School Endorsement Fund at the address above.
