Obituary: Esther Lovetta Hines Peterson was born 12/3/1925 along with her twin sister, Margaret Loretta Hines Fellows, to Grace Loretta Herbert Hines (d) and Chester LeRoy Hines (d) in Yakima, WA and passed away 11/28/2015 of natural causes. She was five days short of her 90th birthday. Esther and Margaret graduated in 1944 from Yakima High School. were considered beauties, although both were skinny. were the only students who had a car, Model A, and were, therefore, referred to as he Gold Dust Twins. Esther was known as Klondike as a young adult because of her blonde hair. Esther worked at Burrows Motor Co during High School and after graduation. marrying, she moved to Richland and worked for the US Area of Engineers and was proud of her contribution to the Manhattan Project and the War Effort. She worked for Shelton Realty, for KLOQ radio station as Traffic Manager, for the Yakima Clerks offfice as Court Clerk, then for Central WA University in the Faculty Senate until retirement in 1986. Esther attended Yakima Business School, learning skills that she used throughout her working career. Esther married Jack Wayenberg (d) in 1945 and had two daughters, Janet Marie Wayenberg Mowrey and Jean Kay Wayenberg Sullivan. Esther was also Married to David Johnston, and Tom Peterson (d). She spent 23 years with Warren O Kidder (d), and five years with John L Butterfield (d). Esther enjoyed casino gambling, especially Twenty-One, and was a passionate mushroom hunter with Warren. She enjoyed cruises, and traveled to Europe, Russia, China, Japan, Mexico, and Canada. She was active in the Rebeccas Drill Team, Moose, Elks, Eagles, and American Legion as well as Jazzercize and Line Dancing. She was affiliated with the Episcopal Church. Appearance and personal grooming were highly important to Esther and she fixed up until her final weeks. Her joys were her Lhasa Apso dog Dolli and her Domestic Longhair cat Muffin. Esthers best friend has always been her twin sister Margaret. enjoyed travel together and taking their kids to the beaches in San Diego and to Disneyland where they rode Mr. Toads Wild Ride over and over because it only required an A ticket. A Celebration of Life is being planned for and will be posted in the newspapers. Thank you to Esthers Friends, Neighbors, givers, Hospice Workers, Nurses, Doctors, Therapists, Aids, Hospitals, and s that participated so lovingly in Esthers care. Obituary: Ernest (Ernie) Lester Peterson, "King of Selah", age 92, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 23, 2011 at the Covenant House in Yakima, WA. Ernie was born 3, 1919 in Leith, N.D. to Ed and Lena Peterson. Ernie married Margaret Frederickson on 2, 1941 and lived in Auburn, WA. He served in the Army Air Corps during WW II and they moved to Selah, WA in 1959. Because of his service work for the community, he was nicknamed "King of Selah" in 1999 and was Grand Marshal of the Selah Community Days parade. Ernie worked at Meads Thriftway, retiring in 1984. Margaret preceded him in death on Nov. 7, 1995 after 54 years of marriage. Ernie later met Marcella Purdy and they were married Sept. 7, 2002 and lived in Yakima until his passing. Ernie is survived by his wife, Marcella, son Larry (Mary) Peterson, daughters Melody (Bill) Eikenbary and Elaine (John) Peterson; step-children Bill (Sue) Purdy, Ike (Renee) Purdy, Mike (Sherri) Purdy, Sue (Vern) Sartain and foster son Mike (Caroline) Fisher; 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 23 step-grandchildren, 29 step-great grandchildren and 4 step-great great grandchildren. He is also survived by 1 brother, 2 sisters and many relatives and friends. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. , Dec. 6, 2011 at the Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. A Memorial Service will be at 1 P.M. Dec. 7 at the Summit View Church of Christ, 100 N. 72nd Avenue Yakima, WA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Yakima Memorial Hospice, American Red Cross or Dementia Research in c/o of Keith and Keith who is entrusted with the arrangements. |
