Obituary: Our beloved Mom passed away peacefully at the age of 77 on 28, 2015 at home surrounded by family. She now gets to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior in Heaven. She was preceded in death by the love of her life Dr. Carroll T. Petty; her mother, Alice Hammer; her father, Leo Gilliland; her daughter, Beverly van Westendorp; and her brother Ronald Gilliland. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands: Loretta and Warren Chittum, and Denise and Mike Holt; four grandchildren: Brittany McDowell, Carl Chittum, Mikey Holt, and Brandon Holt; two brothers and their wives: Lionel and Camilla Gilliland - and - J.B. and Jackie Gilliland; three sisters-in-law: a Gilliland, Beth P. Smith, and Margaret Petty; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She spent many years volunteering in her childrens schools and extracurricular activities and held numerous leadership positions in medical auxiliaries. a career as a Registered Nurse, she held appointments in state government. She was an active member of Derbyshire Baptist Church and a spirited participant in their Golden Tones Choir. A service celebrating her life will be held at Derbyshire Baptist Church (8800 Derbyshire Road; Henrico, Virginia) on , 2, 2015. Viewing will be at 1:00 pm, with the memorial service to follow at 1:30 pm. A reception will immediately follow the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in her memory to your local Alzheimers Association. |
