When Bill died, she moved to Yorktown, VA to live with her youngest sister, Bea Seay, who looked after her needs for 13 years until her untimely passing. Dot loved her extended family of nieces and nephews and was extremely generous to them all, as well as to her churches. Dot's life held many adventures. While she was still a 15-year-old girl in Aurora, she delivered a baby of a near-by farmer's wife, after finding the neighbor alone and in labor on a casual visit. In 1938, Dot was chosen the Queen of the Annual Washington, NC Tulip Festival as Miss Aurora. Newspaper accounts describe her as a regal blond beauty with gracious charm. She was known for her flamboyant hats and she still had some tucked away in her closet. She and Bugs and Lela Chesson wrote a book, A Pictorial History of Rocky Mount in 1977. She was a Charter Member of the Pilot's Club and her committee was instrumental in having a small beauty salon installed in a local nursing home, because even women who have grown older want to look nice. She and Bugs were avid basketball fans of the UNC Tar Heels. And they were Founders of North Carolina Wesleyan in Rocky Mount, of which they were very proud. She was a true Southern Belle. Dot was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her sisters, Marguerite Bacon and Bea Seay, and her brothers Walton, Bill, Ronald, Mack and Charles Williams. She's also survived by her dear Rocky Mount friends James and Annie Murphy and Mary McMillan. Those of us left behind would like to thank Joyce Dickerson and Carolyn Lane for the loving caregiving they provided; she considered them her family. And Riverside Hospice for their care and solace. During her years in Yorktown, Dot attended Yorkminister Presbyterian Church in Grafton, but was a Charter Member of West Haven Presbyterian in Rocky Mount. Before she left Rocky Mount, she donated the chandeliers in the West Haven sanctuary in memory of her husbands. Her funeral service will take place in Rocky Mount on , 16, 2015 at 2:00 pm at West Haven Presbyterian Church with interment in Pineview beside Bugs. A reception at the church will follow.
