Obituary: RACHEL PETRAGLIA PINARD Ludlow-Rachel Joan Petraglia Pinard passed away on 16, 2013 at the age of ninety-four in her home in Ludlow, VT. She was the daughter of Leopoldo and Angelina Petraglia of Ludlow. Rachel graduated from Black River Academy in Ludlow in 1937 and attended Rutland Business . Following school, she worked tirelessly until she retired at age seventy-one. During her working wears, she held office positions at Howe Scale in Rutland, VT, Kenwood Mills in Cavendish, VT, Parks and Woolson Machine in Springfield, VT, and the for sixteen years at Bryant Grinder Corp. in Springfield, VT. Her last job was for the US Postal Service where she worked for nineteen years as a post clerk and officer in charge of the post office is both Plymouth Union, VT and Ascutney, VT. Most recently she could be seen riding next to Bernie in his convertible. With her big sunglasses and fancy hat, she looked like a movie star. Rachel loved to knit and sew and made many sweaters and childrens attire for her family. She enjoyed collecting and refinishing antique furniture and going to auctions. Rachel was also a former member of the Ludlow Grange. She loved to cook and loved watching the Food and Cooking Channel intensely. She was especially close to her sister, Ida, and they went everywhere together including shopping trips to Rutland and Claremont. Rachels son, Bernie, took on the responsibility of caring for his mother on a twenty-four hour basis for the last several years of her illness. In her application for employment for the US Postal Service, Rachel wrote, My strongest asset is determination and belief that no task is impossible. She is survived by her son, Bernie William Pinard of Woodstock, VT; two grandchildren: Courtney Pinard of Rockville, MD and Brigette Pinard Cook of Fletcher, NC; two great-grandsons: Tyler Alexander Cook and Spencer William Cook of Fletcher, NC. She is also survived by Nieces Andrea Lehtonen of Greenvill, NH, Lynne Leonard of North Springfield, VT, Mary Maher of Hyannis, MA, Barbara MacDonald of Spartonburg, SC, Gail Weiss of Summerville, SC and nephews Loran Greenslet of Ludlow, VT and Vaughn Petraglia of Manchester, NH and many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her older brother, Andrew Petraglia of North Springfield, VT and her older sisters Carmella Petraglia Greenslet and Ida Petraglia Lehtonen, both of Ludlow, VT and Fortura Petraglia Danien of Hyannis, MA, formerly of Windsor, VT. She was also predeceased by her former husband, Robert William Pinard. Obituary: Robert L. Pike, 87 of Brattleboro, VT died on , 28, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Brattleboro on 4, 1928; the son of the late Leon and Evelyn (Kemp) Pike. Bob was a lifelong Brattleboro resident. He was educated in the Brattleboro school system, graduating from Brattleboro High School, Class of 1947. Bob served his country in the U.S. Navy. He worked for many years for the New England Telephone Co., before his retirement in 1985. Bob was a tremendous athlete; he received the Diedrich Stolte Memorial Cup, for his aggressiveness and courage in athletic competitions. He was a 54 year member of the American Legion, lifetime member of the Elks Club, and a member of the Communication Local 2326. Bob enjoyed playing golf, fishing, hunting, skiing, riding his bike, and traveling with his wife, Marjorie. Bob will especially be remembered by his family as a great, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is predeceased by two children, Shelia M. Pike Ferris in 1995 and a stillborn daughter; and a brother, Donald S. Pike. He is survived by his loving wife Marjorie Pike of Brattleboro; a daughter, Sharon L. Pike and her fiancé Glenn M. Wallen of Brattleboro; a sister, Jean Fraser and her husband Jack of Norwich, VT; son-in-law, Rick Ferris and his fiancé Marcie Hogan of Brattleboro; a granddaughter, Bridgitte H. Ferris and her fiancé Jacob H. Bachant of Ashburnham, MA; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Burial will take place at Meetinghouse Hill in the spring. The KER-WESTERLUND FUNERAL HOME, Brattleboro, VT has been entrusted with arrangements. |

Obituary: Norma Irene Pike (Ecklund) was born in 1928 in Denison Iowa and passed away peacefully at home 28, 2016 in Great Falls VA. She was 87 years of age. Her parents, Russell William Ecklund (1896-1989) and Erma Irene Johnson (1897-1975), were from large families of Swedish farming immigrants, who emigrated to Iowa in 1860/70s, she was the youngest of five siblings: Winifred (1920), Ruth and Ruby (1922) and William (1923). She met and married Laurence Pike in 1950 at the University of Iowa. She graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Chemistry in 1954. Moving to New York City while Larry attended Columbia law school, Norma worked for several years at New York Hospital pharmacy. In 1958, they moved to Scarsdale NY to raise their growing family. In 1993, Norma and Larry retired to their home in Brattleboro Vermont. Their home in Brattleboro was a wonderful venue for many family gatherings over the years. Norma was predeceased by her husband (1999) and a daughter, Barbara (2013). She is survived by 3 sons, William (Lory) of Santa Rosa, CA, Jeffrey (Nelly) of Great Falls, VA, and Alan of Tarrytown, NY; five grandchildren, Alexandra, Stuart, Ariana, Jasmine and Andres, and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited for a time of Visitation on from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Ker- Westerlund , 57 High Street, Brattleboro, VT. A Graveside committal services and interment will follow at Meetinghouse Hill . Memorial Contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of ones choice. |

Obituary: John PJ Pijanowski, 100, of Burlington passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on 18, 2016. The oldest son of Polish immigrants, Alexander and Maryana (Nadolny) Pijanowski, PJ was born on 24, 1916 in New Britain, Connecticut. At the age of 16, he was diagnosed with polio and spent a year at the Shriners Hospital in Springfield, Massachusetts. surviving polio, PJ played semi-pro baseball and football in New Britain. He frequently took fishing trips to Campbells Bay in West Swanton, VT and it was there that he met his future wife, Madeline Robistow. married on May 31, 1947 at the Church of the Nativity in Swanton, VT. PJ and Madeline raised their family on Locust Terrace in Burlington, VT, where they resided for 56 years. In 2008, he moved to the other side of the Park, where he lived with his son, John and his family for the last 8 years. PJ worked in Quality Control at General Electric in Burlington for 35 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree, and the Burlington Elks Lodge BPOE #916. PJ enjoyed many summers with his family and friends at the Cliffside Country Club in Burlington. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New York Football Giants. PJ was predeceased by his wife, Madeline, and by his siblings Jean (William) Slysz, Stanley (Regina), and Casmir (Jeanette) Pijanowski. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Jean (Richard Roth) of Aurora, CO, son Brian (Donna) of Falmouth, MA, and John (Sheila) of Burlington, grandchildren John (Beth) of Medway, MA, Scott (Lauren) of Chicago, IL, Amy Pijanowski of Los Angeles, CA, Emily and Hayley Pijanowski of Burlington, VT, great-grandsons Brian and Blake Pijanowski, and great-granddaughter Julia Pijanowski. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Paul Larocque of St. Albans, VT and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Christ the King in Burlington on , 24 at 10:00am with burial to follow at Resurrection Park in South Burlington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rice Memorial High School Athletic Department, 99 Proctor Avenue, South Burlington, VT.
