Obituary: Carol Jean Harding Powell Carol Jean Harding Powell died peacefully in her sleep on 27, 2013. She was born 17, 1930, the daughter of Emma Jane Barton Harding and Royal LaGrande Harding. The family lived in Delta, Utah, the first seven years of Carols life before they moved to Provo. Carol graduated from Provo High School. She married Lynn Madsen Powell on 3, 1949. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during her lifetime. Carol was amazingly driven to many endeavors. She sewed, knitted, croqueted, and painted ceramics. Then she graduated to more difficult tasks that she really enjoyed and excelled at - painting landscapes and making porcelain dolls (sewing all their clothes, of course). The unwavering and unconditional love she had for her family was the most remarkable facet of Carols life and her family will remember her and honor her for her incredible wit, and her ability to laugh at a joke even if it was at her expense. She is survived by her husband, Lynn Powell; daughter, Linda Kay Powell (Sorenson); granddaughter Lori Rochelle Sorenson (Sink) and her great-grandchildren Karly Sink and Zachary Sink. The care that Carol received the last 5 years of her life at Willowwood in Holladay was overwhelming. The professionalism and compassion of the staff will long be remembered and appreciated by her family. Bristol Hospice was instrumental in the transition that Carol made to her final home with her Heavenly Father. Special thanks to Melany, Nancy, and Jayne and the rest of the amazing Bristol staff. prepared the family for what was to come at every step of her transition to her final destination. Graveside services for Carols closest and dearest will be held at Provo City , , 30 at 11:00. Condolences may be sent to the family at: www.tributecenterutah.com |

Obituary: On , 12, 2014, our sweet mother and grandmother, Burnyce Miles Powell passed peacefully from this mortal life to join her eternal companion, Oren B. Powell, along with her daughter, Deanna P. Doud, and a host of family and friends, who most assuredly rejoiced in her arrival home on the other side of the veil. Burnyce was born 13, 1925, in Oakley, Utah, the third of four children, to Benjamin and Theo Robinson Miles. It was here she enjoyed life on the farm until her family moved to Huntington Beach, California to help her grandmother run her small business of a local grocery market. It was here that she completed high school and was known locally for her excellent dancing skills to the music of the big bands. It was also here that she met and married her sweetheart, Oren, after his return from his service in the United States Air Force. soon moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where they settled and where their first child, Charlene, was born. later built a home and settled in the Holladay area where Deanna and Jim joined the family and where many happy family memories were made. The greatest joy in Bo's life was her family, and she devoted her time and energy to supporting her husband and children in their many activities and unselfishly serving others. She loved her grandchildren and they, in turn, loved her. There were many joyful times at grandma and grandpa Powell's house where they were loved and spoiled on a regular basis. She loved doing genealogy work and had a remarkable memory and ability to stay connected to her extended family as well as her husband's family. She took great care in keeping in touch with all family members whom she devotedly served and cherished which earned her the title from many as the favorite aunt or grandma. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she served in many positions in the Primary, Young Women's, and Relief Society organizations. She loved crafting, collecting dolls and bells, and cheering for BYU and the Jazz. Obituary: Elo was born in Copenhagen, Denmark 31, 1918 to Ellen SolvHoj, and adopted by Harald and Johanne Poulsen when he was 3 weeks old. He had one brother and two sisters. He married Anna the 1st of 1943, in Randers, Denmark. He is survived by his wife, 2 boys John and Palle, 14 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. He started working when he was eight, and has worked ever since. In Denmark, he went to a 5-year apprenticeship to become a Master Painter and Interior Decorator. He started his own painting business in 1946 in Aarhus, Denmark for 11 years before immigrating to the United States. He, Anna and John joined the LDS Church in 1955, after almost two years of investigating the Church. Palle was baptized when he turned eight. The missionary that baptized his family kept calling, saying that he and his family should come to Zion, and that his daughter would sponsor his family. He and his family left Denmark the 22nd of May 1957, arrived in New York on 1st, where he had an old friend that came and helped them get through customs. stayed there longer than planned as John fell and broke his collarbone. Elo went to work with his friend while Johns collarbone healed for six weeks. were going to take the Greyhound bus across to California but Elo bought a car with the money he earned working for his friend. He borrowed a tent and started the journey to California. His entire vocabulary was, fill-up, orange drink, hamburger, and hot dog. slept under the sky for two nights, then went to a campsite for one night so they could have a shower. stopped over in Salt Lake City to visit some of the missionaries that had taught them the gospel and arrived in Upland, California, , 24, 1957. He was happy to see Euclid Avenue with green grass and trees down the center, because when he came to Barstow, he was ready to turn around and go back, because it was nothing but sand and trash along the highway. When he arrived he had $45 left in his pocket, a couple of suitcases and five wooden boxes he had shipped with all their belongings. were lucky to find a house for rent, where the landlady was willing to just get a half months rent. On , the missionary friends took Anna to DI to get furniture, bedding, and food. were overcome by the generosity showed to them by the ward, and that same morning Elo had a job waiting for him painting a large home for a member of the church making a dollar 50 cents an hour. The local radio station and newspaper came and interviewed Anna, so the next day a painting contractor came and wanted to hire Elo, and from word of mouth, he soon got an even better job. He also did yard work on s and served papers for an attorney. some time he went into a partnership in a printing business. six years, he sold that and bought an Employment Agency helping people find work. That was not really him, so he traded it for a printing business in Los Angeles, which he had until he retired. In 1960, Elo and his family were sealed for eternity in the Manti Temple. Elo was very involved in the Boy Scouts in Denmark and also here for many years where he affected many lives. When he was Scout Master here, it was a great blessing because as he taught the boys skills of scouting, they taught him English. He served in the Bishopric, as a Temple Worker, and in other church callings, which he enjoyed. One of Elos favorite hobbies was sailing and he owned several sailboats. He always had projects and a very good imagination for building and remodeling, and many other ideas. he retired, he went to Denmark, bought a piece of beachfront property, and built a beautiful home, where they had many gatherings with family and friends in Denmark and friends from here that visited. Elo and Anna moved to Woodland Hills in 1998 to help take care of Palles kids when his wife was killed in a car accident. He and Anna found so many friends and have enjoyed the rest of their retired life. He appreciated all that friends and ward members have done to care and help him especially the last while when he could not do it for himself. Elo passed away on 18, 2015. He has left a great legacy and touched many lives in his quiet way and will be surely missed. services will be held , 26, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Maple Canyon Ward Chapel, 220 S. Woodland Hills Drive, Woodland Hills, Utah. Family and friends may visit evening, 25 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Walker , 187 S. Main Street, Spanish Fork, and on morning at the church from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Wasatch Lawn . |
