Obituary: The Service for Mrs. Virginia Bell Powers 93, of Athens will be 2, 2016 at 1:30 P.M. at McConnell Memorial Chapel with Alan Hughes officiating. Visitation will be 2, 2016 from 12-1:15 P.M. at McConnell . Burial will be in Roselawn . Virginia was born 23, 1922 to Jack and Retha White. She lived in Limestone , Alabama most of her life and was a member of First Baptist Church of Ardmore, Alabama. She loved going to church, gardening, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great- great grandchild. She was beloved by her family, who were fond of spending time visiting with her and enjoying her home-cooked meals. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Retha White and her husband Alton Powers. She is survived by son Marion Powers of Athens, AL; daughter-in-law George Ellen Powers of Tuscaloosa, AL; her daughter Sharon Peek and husband Sherman of Keller, TX; grandchildren Yvette Johnson and husband Eddie of Tuscaloosa, AL; Stephanie Bailey and husband Bart of Gulf Shores, AL; Alton Powers and wife Cindy of Huntsville, AL; Mark Powers and wife Kelli of Huntsville, AL; Jordan Peek of Keller, TX; and Emily Peek of Denton, TX. She is also survived by 9 great grandchildren Mason Johnson, Forest Johnson, Madison Johnson, Tiffany Bailey, Mitch Bailey, Tatum Bailey, Mary Marlowe Bailey, Sydney Powers, Mark Allen Powers and one great- great grandchild Fallon Bailey. Pallbearers will be Alton Powers, Mark Powers, Jordan Peek, Mason Johnson, Forest Johnson, Mitch Bailey, and Mark Allen Powers. |

Obituary: - Louise Powers The funeral for Louise McMahan Powers, 86, of Athens will be at 2 p.m. at McConnell with Bro. Mark Johnson officiating. Burial will be in New Salem . Visitation will be from 6-9 tonight at the funeral home. Mrs. Powers died , 16, 2010, at Limestone Facility. She was born 16, 1924, in Limestone to Posey Carl and Ella Rose McMahan, the oldest of seven children. She grew up in Horton Hollow of West Limestone. Mrs. Powers was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rabon W. Powers; two sons, Ronald W. Ronnie Powers and Larry Wayne Powers; a grandson, Rabon Morris Powers Jr.; a sister, Elizabeth McMahan; and a brother, Thomas Carl McMahan. Survivors include three sons, Morris Powers and wife Dianne of Athens, Glenn Powers of Ardmore and Steve Powers and wife Mary of Pulaski, Tenn.; two daughters, Judy Rose of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., and Janice Murphy and husband Ray of Huntsville; three brothers, Cecil McMahan and wife Mamie, Chuck McMahan and wife Betty, and Donald McMahan and wife Judy, all of Athens; a sister, Robbie Nell Craig of Athens; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Tim Powers, Todd Powers, Larry Harless, Sam Thomas, Ray Murphy and Von Craig. |

Obituary: Kenneth H. Powers Sr., 91, of Mt. Olive passed away 24, 2014. Preceded in death by his parents P.E. Powers Sr. and Ruth H. Powers, his brother P.E. Powers Jr. and daughter Kay P. King and grandson Alan F. King. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Fannie B. Powers, his children Martha T Boyd (Mike), Kenneth Powers Jr., Karen P. Trotter, and Kelly P. Reed (Randall) his sister Ruth Bridges and his brother Donald B. Powers (Pat), step daughters Lois Carroll, Joy Burks (Bruce), Gale Nelson (Mike) and Susan Carroll (Stephanie), grandchildren Jeff King, Keith King, Scott Boyd, Katie Powers, Subee Powers, Matthew Hall, Winter Trotter and Coti Denard. Many step grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a star football and track athlete while attending Ramsay High School. He was captain of the football team and president of the student body. He won a full football scholarship to Howard . He retired from E.I. DuPont after 30 years and designed and built houses. Memorial Service was at the hospital at his bedside with his family. |
