Obituary: Norman Carl Prophit, 59, of Nacogdoches passed away , 23, 2017, at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital one day before his 60th birthday. He was born 24, 1957, in Pasadena, Texas to parents Leonard OQuin and Barbara Ann (Whilkins) Prophit. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. , May 20, 2017, at Cason Monk-Metcalf's Sunset Chapel with Bro. Brian Tyre of New Hope Congregational Methodist Church officiating. Full military honors will be provided by The United States Navy. Inurnment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Mr. Prophit loved to make up his own jokes, and mostly only he found them funny. He loved to play football and loved to play with the older boys in the family. Norman was artistic and a musician. He did very well in music competitions in high school. He moved around often growing up, and this was hard on him in high school especially. He lived in Houston, Texas, Rayne, Louisiana, New Concord, Ohio, Bellville, Texas, Columbus, Texas, and Nacogdoches, Texas. He served in the Navy as a corpsman from 1976 to around 1981. He earned the nickname Troup based on Stormin' Norman Swartzkopf. Normans favorite song was Led Zeppelin's Over the Hills and Far Away, and Ramblin' Man. His favorite color was orange, and his favorite food was Shrimp Creole and Dole sliced pineapple. Mr. Prophit enjoyed going fishing and going to the lake. He loved NASCAR and SuperCross, and his favorite rider was Damon Bradshaw. He wrote several songs. Norman was an avid football fan, his favorite teams being the Broncos and the Texans, amongst others. He was a barber for his stepsons. Norman learned to play guitar, and he was teaching his stepson to play bass guitar as well. He loved science fiction and wrote a sci-fi book, but it was never published. He loved Star Trek. Mr. Prophit wore many hats in life following his military service. He worked for an oil field related survey company, a construction company, in gas stations, convenience stores, Pilgrim's Pride, and Lexington Place among others. He proudly served his country in The United States Navy from 1975 until about 1981. He was also active in The US Naval Retired Seaman's in Gulfport, Mississippi. He was a member of Bonita United Methodist in Central Heights and Jubilee Christian Church in Nacogdoches. Norman was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Connie Sue Prophit; brother, Leonard Lee Prophit; and sister, Catherine Ann Prophit DeMers. He is survived by his daughter, Hope Marie Prophit of Nacogdoches; stepsons, Michael Wells of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and Sherman West of Tyler; sister, Sally Prophit Faulk of San Antonio; brother, James Edward Prophit; niece, Nicole Celeste Prophit of Katy; nephews, James Curry Faulk of San Antonio, William Corey Faulk of San Antonio, Steven Douglas Faulk of Ikoma City, Japan, James Fred Prophit of Round Rock, Brandon Michael Prophit of Edcouch, Texas, Jamie Huffman of Sheridan, Texas, and Eugene George Demers of Katy; three great nephew; and three great nieces. Obituary: Clyde O. Propes, 88, went home to be his Lord and Savior , 22 in Brazos after a short battle with Pancreatic Cancer. He was with his family when he passed away. A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. , 26 at Hope Evangelical Free Church with Reverends Rudy k and Tuffy Loftin of the Cowboy Church of Leon officiating. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. at Memorial chapel in Station. Clyde was born 27, 1921 in Henderson, Texas to Forrest Chilton and Golda R. (Stewart) Propes. He graduated from Henderson High School in 1939. He retired from Sun Oil after 38 years in Houston, Texas. If there was one word to describe Clyde it would be, Love. He had a great love for his Lord, life, family and every hobby he did. His favorite sport to watch was basketball; he and Lynn were long time season ticket holders to Aggie Womens Basketball Team and would follow local high school basketball especially the Snook Blue Jays. Clyde was an avid bowler and loved to deer hunt. On many occasions to get around on his property, Clyde would climb on his mule and ride around checking the progress of his expansive vegetable gardens. He was the Papa in Papa Clydes Peppers. Papa especially loved shopping for grocery bargains for the foods he couldn produce. Clyde is preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Jo Harris Propes and his brothers and sister. He is survived by his wife, Norelyn Lynn Propes of Somerville; children and their spouses, Joseph Wayne Propes of Jefferson, Texas, F. Michele and Ted Otto of Olympia, Wash., Jane and Scott McAvoy of Kaufman, Texas, Laurie Hayse of Columbia, Tenn., Meg and Chip Gilmer and Andrew John and Jennifer Gugle all of Indianapolis, Ind.; brother-in-law John T. Schneider and wife Lucinda of Austin, Texas; sisters-in-law Mary Ann Bicknell & husband Thomas of Broomfield, CO., Hilda Propes and Ann Propes, both of Henderson, Texas; fifteen precious grandchildren, eight special great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to a special thank you to Dr. Robert and Pam Wiprud and special friends, Barney and Melissa Boatcallie and Pastor Rudy and Lena k for all of the love, care and support they gave to Clyde and his family.
