Obituary: Elizabeth H. Pratley passed away on 30, 2016 in Plano, Texas at the age of 80. Elizabeth was born in Boston, Mass. on 5, 1936 to her late parents Dr. Cecil G. Dunn and Lois B. Dunn. Her family lived in New England and Florida in her youth. She was adventurous, enjoyed traveling and was always interested in art and culture. She had a talent for writing and drawing. She loved to go on long walks to enjoy the beauty of nature. Elizabeth was a student at Bates in Lewiston, Maine before moving out west in the late 1950’s. She would say in a light hearted way that she was a “transplanted Yankee” when meeting new friends. She attended the University of Arizona in Tucson where she met her late husband Jimmie Hills, who was also a student there, having moved to Tucson from Kansas. It was love at first sight. One of the places that she, Jim and their children had lived was Cheyenne, Wyoming. Many of her lifelong friendships were formed there. Elizabeth was always outgoing and loved to socialize. She was faithful in her letter writing and those that received her correspondence over the years enjoyed her wit and thoughtfulness. When Elizabeth was widowed in 1977 she decided to return to Tucson. Elizabeth found happiness again when she remarried to a wonderful man, Park (Jerry) Pratley. eventually moved to Prescott Valley, Arizona where they lived for many years. She and her husband volunteered for the Disabled American Veterans for over a decade. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. When she became a widow again she eventually moved to Texas to be closer to family where she lived out her final days on this earth. If one were to best describe how Elizabeth lived her life, it would be said that she was a strong Christian woman. She was a tremendous prayer warrior and she had a heart for God. She truly lived by the belief that giving is better than receiving which was consistently shown in what she did throughout her life. She had been known to give the coat off of her back to a stranger in need. She was intelligent, articulate and kind. She was a cherished daughter and sister, a loyal friend, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Elizabeth is survived by her family who will cherish their memories of her always. Her brother- Ronald Dunn and his wife Cindy of Maine. Her eldest son - Stephen Hills and his wife Genevieve of Florida. Stephen’s children, Julie (Dan), along with their children (Nathan and Michael) of Iowa. Also, Jonathan (Ann) of Kansas. Her younger son - James Hills and his wife Jan of Texas. Their children, David, Brian (Julie) and Joshua (Chrystal), along with their children (Bennett and Andrew). Her daughter - Susan Nickel and her husband Michael of Alabama. Their children, Brittani and John of Alabama and Josh (Heather) of Penn., along with their children (Jackson, Caleb and Emily). Her step-children - Dale and Erika of Nevada. Elizabeth will be remembered by many others, including extended family and friends, as well as those who have experienced her kindness in countless other ways. Memorial donations in Elizabeths name may be given to the Disabled American Veterans. Memorial and burial to be held at later date at the National Memorial of Arizona in Phoenix. Obituary: Victor R. Pratka, 75, of Freeport passed away peacefully in his sleep on 24, 2014 with his family by his side. Vic was born on 11th 1939 to Victor & Bessie Pratka in Burr, TX. In 1960 Vic married the love of his life, Melanie Fabre in Berwick, LA. Vic was a strong family man who proudly loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild deeply. Vic is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ben Pratka; his in-laws, George & Minerva Fabre; and his daughter and son in law, Vanessa & Randy Neal. Surviving Vic is his wife of 54 years, Melanie Pratka; his son David (wife Sharon) Pratka; his daughter Georgette (husband Tim) Cates; and his grandchildren \ Hannah Pratka, Hailey Pratka, Braden Boudreaux, Addison Boudreaux, Sydney Boudreaux, and Griffin Cates. He is also survived by a brother, a sister, and many nieces, nephews, friends and other family. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. A visitation with friends and family will be held on 29th at 11:00am. Vic will be laid to rest at 1:30pm following the visitation. Obituary: Alfred Joseph "Butch" Pratka Jr., beloved father, grandfather, husband, brother, friend and child of God, joined his Savior, Jesus Christ, on 27, 2014, after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. Butch was born on 26, 1942, in Houston, Texas, at St. Joseph's Hospital to Alfred Joseph Pratka, Sr. and Julia Louise "Connie" Pratka. He was the oldest in a family of four brothers and one sister. He attended St. Christopher Catholic School and graduated from Mount Carmel High School. Growing up, Butch excelled in every sport he tried and went on to letter in baseball at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. where he graduated. He loved his country and was proud to serve. He joined the Marines and, of course, wanted to fly. He did his Basic Training at Quantico, Virginia, but declined his commission when health issues prevented him from flying in active duty. He spent five years in the Marine Reserves as an aircraft mechanic. Butch started his professional career in the home office of American General Life Insurance . Not long after joining AG, he became an independent insurance broker. In 1970 he earned the distinction as a "Life Member" of the Million Dollar Round Table, one of the highest accolades of his peers. He served as President of the Houston Association of Life Underwriters in 1977- 1978. Throughout the 50+ years in the insurance business, he developed longstanding friendships with his clients and their families as well as his fellow agents. He put honesty and integrity above everything else. Over the last decade, he has enjoyed sharing his profession with his son, Al, and passing on the legacy of the family business to the third generation. At age 28, Butch became the patriarch of the Pratka family when his father was tragically killed in an auto accident. He was forced into service not only as big brother to his younger brothers, but was often called upon for both fatherly and business advice for his grieving mother, all while raising his first three children. Soon thereafter, tragedy struck again when his children's mother, Teri, was involved in what proved to be a fatal accident that forced him into the role of raising Al, Jeanie and Ginger in their formative preteen years. He embraced this challenge and drove carpool, worked on homework and attended all their after-school activities. Anyone who knew Butch knows how much he loved airplanes, World War II and military history. A highlight was when he did a FAM trip on the U.S.S. Nimitz. Joan and Butch never missed a World War II or flight museum on their travels and many times planned their trips around them. He could go on for hours talking about WWII. Butch's father instilled a love of the outdoors. Hunting, fishing and skiing on the lakes, rivers and bays were an every weekend event in the Pratka household in the 50's. When his parents built a fishing camp in 1961 on a body of water called the Crash Boat Basin in Galveston, he found a place that he would love the rest of his life and would bring so many memories to his family and friends. Soon after Joan and Butch married, they bought their own house on the Crash Boat Basin. His sister had one across the way and Mama Connie was down the street. So many fond memories of the children speeding up and down the water in their skiffs, learning to ski and sail, catching crabs and fish, throwing seines, cooking out over the barbecue pit, driving the "Volkswagen thing", Easter egg hunts, and water balloons. The list goes on and on. Hurricane Ike, the three brothers built a new house on the original family land where the fun continued! Butch's other love was hunting with his boys and friends - especially duck hunting in the early years, and always quail hunting. He enjoyed his many golf outings with Joan or his friends and loved playing all the well-known golf courses, including a, which was the highlight! Another highlight of his life was being an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 55 when Andrew was going through the scouting program. He loved the campouts, the leaders and the boys! He also loved building Pinewood Derby cars with Andrew, attending Buffalo Trails Scout Ranch, San Isabel Scout Camp in Colorado, and Maine High Adventure. He was a member of River Oaks Country Club for 44 years and a past Director, where he formed many close friendships. He enjoyed playing golf with his buddies and especially the banter of the men's locker room. He was a co-founder of The River Oaks Breakfast Club, which celebrates its 46th anniversary this year. As an avid golfer, he loved being involved in the development and building of Bear Creek Golf Course and later Cypresswood Golf Course. He was a devout Catholic and was often seen at 7:30 mass so he could make the 9:30 wolf game. Butch is preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Michael Pratka. Butch is survived by his wife of 34 years, Joan; two sons, Alfred Joseph Pratka III and wife, Ashley, and Andrew James Pratka; two daughters, Jean Marie Hartwig and husband, Steve, Virginia Gay Tuggle and husband, Michael; brothers Gregg Matthew Pratka and wife, Sharon, Christopher Carl Pratka and wife Patricia; sister Patricia Womack and husband, Gene; grandchildren Matthew Joseph Tuggle, Caroline Julia Tuggle, William Carl Hartwig, Katherine Leah Hartwig, Eleanor Julia Pratka, and Riley Joseph Pratka; nieces and nephews John Barrett Young, Jr. and wife, Elizabeth, Jeffrey Alton Young and wife, Jill, William Gregory Young and wife, Stephanie, Julia Young Sudduth and husband, Drew, Harris Matthew Pratka and wife, Alyssa, Leah Pratka Burke and husband, Kevin, Kendall Gayle Pratka, Morgan Michael Pratka, and Kristin Pratka Tufo and husband, Brian.
