Obituary: Roland Powell, 83, Colorado City went to be with his Lord on , 29, 2016. He passed away at the Hendrick Medical of Abilene with his family by his side. Roland was born on 16, 1932 in Spur Texas to Chester and Sarah Dillashaw Powell. attending school he joined the Marines for a few years then started his life working for many companies, ultimately settling down at Dowell Chemical where he retired as a Safety Manager. Roland was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Colorado City. Those that knew him knew he was a loyal and hard worker and made sure to teach his boys that quality. He also taught them what it was like to love God and how to play baseball, as coaching was one of his many passions in life. In his younger days he would play fast-pitch softball, but once he got too old to play he turned to golf and became an avid golfer. Roland is survived by his sons Yardy Powell and wife Gayla of Colorado City and Jardy Powell and wife Tori of Lubbock, and by his grandchildren; Jardon Powell of Waco, Tate Powell of Lubbock, Krista Barthold and husband Justin of Gainesville, Josh Ziegler and wife Ashley of Grandbury, and Karter Swenson and husband Justin of Stephenville. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren and his siblings; Helen Ford of Dalhart, Mary Ann Barber of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Sue Bennett of Jeffersonville, Indiana, Lynette Alexander of Houston, DK Powell of Amarillo, Pat Powell of Odessa and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife LaRue, his parents, and by four brothers and a sister. A funeral service for Roland will be held on , 2nd at the Calvary Baptist Church at 2pm with the Rev. Paul Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Colorado City . A visitation fo Roland will be held at the Kiker-Seale on , 1st from 6-8 pm. Obituary: Roger T. Powell, 79, passed away on , May 30, 2015, one day before his 80th birthday. The eldest of three children, he was born on May 31, 1935, in Mexia, Texas, to Joseph Rodger and Annie May (Muncy) Powell. Roger grew up in Taft, Texas. Roger graduated from Taft High School and joined the United States Army in 1953 and honorably served three years of active duty. On 23, 1958, he married Shirley Kyker, his devoted wife of more than 56 years. moved to Austin, Texas, where Roger earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Texas and a Doctorate of Jurisprudence (JD) degree from the University of Texas School Of Law. college they returned to the Taft area where Roger began his thirty plus year career in banking and raised their three sons, Michael, Ted and Randy. As Roger advanced to executive positions in banking, the family moved to Sherman, Texas and Paris, Texas for short periods. However, Roger was dedicated to his extended family and they returned home to the Taft area. Roger retired from Ameritrust Bank in Corpus Christi, Texas as Senior Executive in 1992. retirement, Roger pursed many personal and professional interests. As an active member of the Country Bible Church in Taft, a Mason and a Gideon, he worked tirelessly to improve his community as EDC President and could always be counted on as a friend to those who needed help. He served as the President of the First National Bank of Taft. He taught at Del Mar in Corpus Christi and traveled three times to Beijing, China to perform independent mission work and to teach Business Law, making many treasured memories. He was well known for his green thumb, and loved gardening and growing unusual plant varieties. Roger opened a private law practice and was recognized in 2013 by the State Bar of Texas for fifty plus years of service and Bar Membership. In 2011, Roger was elected Justice of the Peace in Precinct 8 of San Patricio . Roger is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sue Powell Hiller. He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Taft; sons, Michael (Marie) of Corpus Christi, Ted (Robin) of Austin and Randy (Amanda) of Harlingen; sister and brother-in-law, Gay and Jimmy Mayo of Taft; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on , 6, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Taft. Following the service, there will be a private scattering of ashes ceremony in the Gulf of Mexico. The family would like to thank Adelia Pena, Janie Martinez and the compassionate staff members of Harbor Hospice and Anthem Senior Services who enabled us to honor Roger’s wishes to spend his final days at home with his family.
