Rons prayer to God (handwritten in early 2010) Dear Lord, Help me help myself. I know now, that any unanswered prayers are a direct result of me not holding my end of the bargain. Just as you gave me life, I must give life to you, and do this by spreading good cheer, in your Word, living each day as it comes. With all that youve blessed me with, Ive been foolish and squandered it before. Now Im seeing it on an even keel, and finally I can get back to my purpose here on this planet by using it and not abusing it. Thank you for this new peace of mind; it truly does only come from within. And Im sorry for the life I have lived up until now, although I know youd require no apologies of me, just my love in return for yours. Amen, Ronald Poma |

Obituary: Jack N. Polunsky, born in San Antonio on May 28, 1919, passed away on 9, 2004 at age 85. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn Polunsky; his brothers, Joe Polunsky and Marvin Polunsky; and parents, Bertha and Barney Polunsky. He graduated from Jefferson High School and the U.S. Army Air Force Flight School at Randolph Field. Jack served in the military during World War II as a C-47 pilot in the 88th Squadron 438th Troop Carrier Group based at RAF Greenham Common in England. It was at Greenham on the night of 5, 1944 where General Dwight D. Eisenhower delivered his famous ÂThe eyes of the world are on you speech before the 438th Troop Carrier departed as the chosen lead group for the task of spearheading the D-Day airborne operation into Normandy. He was cited for outstanding performance of duty in action against the enemy on 5th, 6th and 7th, 1944 for accomplishing numerous aircraft and glider sorties, and the dropping of the first paratroopers to engage the enemy and begin the Liberation of Europe. In spite of increasingly heavy enemy ground fire, total radio blackout and poor weather, his squadron was able to maintain intact formation and successfully deliver the 101st Airborne in the area of the drop zone during the D-Day invasion. His dedication, bravery and accomplishments continued with further awarded airborne missions to combat zones, evacuating casualties and Allied prisoners of war before returning to the U.S.A. in 1945. In 1946 Jack and his brothers Marvin and Sam became co-owners of the family business, PolunskyÂs Seafood, which originated in 1908. As his parents did, Jack exuded the determination, hard work, spirit and independence of a classic pioneer Texan in building the family business. The original poultry market located in the ÂOld Mercado successfully grew into a well known local retail market for fish and specialty items and eventually expanded to a dual market also supplying restaurant food services throughout Texas and surrounding states. Jack most of all will be remembered for his love and dedication to his wife and three children and always being there for them. He was also a loyal friend. He was always ready with a joke, a smile and his all-familiar witticisms. All who knew and loved him will profoundly miss him. He is survived by his children, Allan Polunsky and wife, Dawn, Valerie Polunsky and Andrea Polunsky, all of San Antonio; and grandchildren, Lauren Polunsky, Andrew Polunsky and Scott Polunsky. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Merle Polunsky; sister Anita Davis; sister-in-law, Anne Polunsky and many nieces, nephews and other relations. The family also wishes to thank JackÂs loving and devoted caretaker, Ella Powell and the caring people of Golden Manor for all the care they gave our father. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be given to the Building Fund at Congregation Agudas Achim, Golden Manor Jewish for The Aged, or the charity of your choice. |
