Obituary: Gary Lane Poindexter, 72, lost his long battle with cancer on 23, 2009, at home in Spring Branch, Texas. He was born 17, 1937, in Jasper, Texas, to Leland and Melba Poindexter. His father and mother, and stepfather, Jack Crawford, preceded him in death. Gary is survived by his wife of 26 years, Kathryn Kaci; daughters, Amy Vogt and husband Monte, of Carl Junction, MO, and Chantel Armentrout of Carl Junction, MO; son Brian Poindexter of Henderson, NV; stepmother Betty Crawford of Jasper, TX; grandchildren Brittany and Lane Vogt, Brianna, Morgan, and Bryce Poindexter, Tyler, Tate, Tanner, and Teagan Armentrout. Gary was a true modern-day Renaissance man: he never stopped learning, exploring, teaching & mentoring. He didn just witness history; he was an active participant in shaping history. playing football at Texas A&M under Coach Bear Bryant as one of the Junction boys, he focused his career on aeronautical and intelligence communications engineering. His pioneering work with the U.S. manned spaceflight program began with Project Mercury and continued to the Space Shuttle. His travels spanned the globe, establishing the first network to track and communicate with the astronauts. He was part of the NASA flight directors teams for Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo flights, enabling status and communications with the astronauts to take place so the world could share in the tragedies and triumphs of that historic era. Garys skills and experience were instrumental in developing and integrating the Space Shuttle communication capabilities. He worked extensively and tirelessly with the U.S. intelligence community to protect, establish, and enable effective use of space-based intelligence assets. Although he retired in 2000, Garys influences in the space and intelligence communities have been and will continue to be responsible for many more successes. His personal life was a continuing adventure in photography, woodworking, welding, gardening, birding, geology, and astronomy. His greatest joys in life were his family and friends and visiting. A celebration of Garys life will be held at his home , May 2, 2009. A memorial service will be held in Jasper, Texas, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Odyssey Hospice, 4440 S Peidras Drive, Suite 125, San Antonio, Texas 78228. |

Obituary: Richard Blake Poindexter passed away 24, 2014. He was born 12, 1987 in Arlington, Texas to Richard and Tammy Poindexter. Blake grew up in Grand Prairie, he attended South Grand Prairie High School. As a student he was intelligent A student without studying. He was also great under pressure, acquired many jobs after only one interview, even during high unemployment. At 18 Blake moved to Plano, TX. Like most he had hard times but overcame them with his strong faith. A volunteer at Collin Animal Shelter, he worked on closing puppy mills and was very active in politics. He loved haunted houses, fireworks, roller coasters and had a witty humor. Blake had a big heart, gave his all, whether it was a place to stay, a helping hand, some spare change even if he couldn necessarily afford to give it away. He was positive, compassionate, selfless and always smiling. He never did good to receive a reward; he was humble and would often not tell his family of his kind acts. Family was very important to Blake. visiting family when he was in their area. He would call his extended family on a regular basis and talk for an hour or more, always ending with I Love you. He enjoyed traveling with the family, going to concerts and got his mother to like musicals. He had 4 cats and 2 dogs, some being strays or rescues. He worked for T-Mobile at the Frisco Call until it closed and moved business to overseas. This lit a flame with Blake, who immediately began to fight for his teammates. He traveled to Washington and Germany to give a speech to help the employees who lost their jobs. From then he began working for CWA as a Local Organizer and was promoted to Special Assignment Organizer to work on national campaigns. In the upcoming month was to be featured with a quote on buses and subways in Washington D.C. Preceded in death by his father Richard Poindexter, grandfather Larry Poindexter; great-grandparents Mildred and Hubert Willis, Frances Boyd, Charlie and Rene York and Edmond Poindexter. Survived by mother Tammy Chapman; step father Tim, brother Nathan Poindexter and his wife Leslie; partner Keidrick Goss ; step sisters Lisbeth Douglas and Katie Roberts; nephew Thomas Douglas; grandparents Latricia Ross, Sue and Larry Land, Ronnie and Gloria Glossup; great-grandparents Charlie Boyd, Louise Kropff; aunts Brandi Hicks, Brenda Heath; uncle Randy Glossup and his wife Carrie; cousins Jonathan Heath, Aaron Heath, Ryan Glossup, Jake Glossup, Savanna Glossup; 2nd cousins Tom Reaves, Sheila Reaves, Samantha White, Dustin White, Larry Thompson, Vance Thompson and numerous other family and friends.
