Obituary: Lt. General Charles C. Pixley, USA, Medical Corps Ret. of San Antonio, TX died , 31, 2005. He was born in Grants Pass, Oregon, 8, 1923. His education included B.A. and M.D. degrees from the University of Oregon and MS Surgery from Baylor University. He was a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and Fellow of the American of Surgeons. Gen. PixleyÂs military school attendance included USAF School of Aviation Medicine, U.S. Army Command and General Staff , and USAF War . He served three separate tours as a staff officer in the Office of the Army Surgeon General. Key military command assignments included: 44th Surgical Hospital, Korea; Kenner Army Hospital, F. Lee, VA; 68th Medical Group, Vietnam; U.S. Army Medical Training , Ft. Sam Houston, TX; Wm. Beaumont Army Medical , El Paso, TX; and USA Academy of Sciences, Ft. Sam Houston, TX. From 1977-1981, Gen. Pixley served as the Army Surgeon General. Military decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Flight Surgeon Badge and Parachute Badge. Following military retirement in 1981, he was the Medical Director for Whittaker Corporation, operating hospitals in Saudi Arabia, North Yemen and the United Arab Emirates. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marian Vanderbrook Pixley in 1978. Gen. Pixley is survived by his daughters, Mary Laginestra of Closter, NJ, daughter Teresa Pixley Walsh and husband, Doyle Walsh of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Michelle, Rocco, Melissa and Charles Laginestra of Closter, NJ; James and Ryan Walsh of San Antonio, TX. and sister, Audrey McDaniels of Cincinnati, OH; cousin, CDR Chris MacMurray, USN Ret of Montclair, VA. |
